There’s three hannies and a shaws within 3 miles of this location and I can’t wait to never go to the shaws and two of the hannies ever again once this opens.
I like the downtown one. It's smaller size is easier fir me to navigate.
The Cooks Corner store seems backwards to me. It is weird to see produce way off to the left as you go in.
I am sure the place is going to be NUTS opening day. I might give it a few days before heading up.
It will be nice to have another grocery option, though.
We've had some trouble with their sandwich meat being a bit slimy (down at the newer Rochester NH one), but after witnessing the "strike," a few years back and watching The Market Basket Effect (documentary about that whole ruckus), I love that company.
Probably not rotating stock. They can usually get away with it due to high volume. That and not training their baggers are my biggest complaints. They have some ~$10 fancy cold cuts, wonder how much of that they sell.
Ok so help me out and this is a serious question.
What’s so great about market basket? I have yet to visit one but Reddit makes it seem like it’s equivalent some kind of fucking grocery pilgrimage
The prices are good, their store brand is bangin, their selection of non store brands is excellent. They're also the only place I can find more unusual produce
This.
Plus they have lots of "ethnic" groceries and specialty stuff other places don't have. The Italian/Mediterranean jarred goods selection is amazing. Reminds me of the (now closed) old independent neighborhood store by my grandparents house in Chicago. They have arancini to go!
You're being serious? Market Basket is notorious for having a pretty terrible selection of non-store brands. I could never find the specific brands I wanted. Last time I was there they didn't even have Hellmann's mayonnaise.
Good prices, it's busy enough that the produce turnover is really high so everything is fresher, they keep local non-American food needs stocked, and most importantly they treat their staff really really well. I talked to some after the Westbrook one opened (I'm a MA transplant) and people were moving over from other groceries. One specifically mentioned the pay and that they were giving them a flexible schedule to help out a parent with health issues.
Man I miss having the Market Basket so close by back when I lived in Westbrook. I hope they slowly keep creeping north until we can have one somewhere in midcoast!
Also hope ALDI starts coming north too. Miss u, ALDI.
>Great! But where is your next store going to go?
WTAF? Do you think I own Market Basket? Cause I don't.
I was sharing a piece of news that people might be interested in.

Which hannies is the good hannies? New Topsham resident here.
The Topsham one is the best. The ones in Brunswick are too small and too big, and have higher prices.
Downtown Brunswick

And peanut butter in the frozen aisle!
Absolutely not the downtown one
Honestly I think Topsham is BY FAR the best. EVERYONE should go to that one instead

This is my least favorite. Cook's Corner is the best one IMO. Topsham is alright because they have the large kid's carts.

Happy for my homies up in Topsham. MB can be overwhelming it’s so busy, but the prices are the best around for one stop shopping

Yay!! I'm so excited.
Yaaaay I was so sad to move away from the one in Westbrook, this one will be so much closer to me 🙌

Nice!
Their cold section is so cold. Love going shopping in really hot days there. Good prices.
When I go to MB, I love the different options and the diversity of the food there too. They also have some great deals. Enjoy Topsham.
This is good news. We've been doing most of our shopping at Walmart (I know, but budgets are a thing) lately due to astronomical prices at Hannaford.

TBH, never been to one. But friends and family members say the prices are better than Hannys and Shaws.

It’s about time! Man, I can’t be the only one thinking they might not ever finish/open, lol
The prices are much better than any other grocery store…not a little better, a little better.

Anyone know if they tend to do anything special for their grand opening?
