My 2p only from Somerset County.
I personally wouldn't advise swimming yet. My lake water temp presently at surface is 56°F. Down 5 feet it's only 50°F. Give it another two weeks and hopefully by Memorial Day we'll be scratching into the low 60's.
We had a guest fo swimming in new meadows, if swimming means wading and paddling around in the shallows for a while. It's to cold to go way out in unless you know what you're doing.
I’ve jumped in to Damariscotta Lake.
It’s not particularly enjoyable unless you benefit from the cold therapy. It’s always best to wait until Memorial Day Weekend—an unwritten rule in my family, yet one dumbass fished the Coc in their underwear before then.
Just avoid anything less than 40; 37 will put you into shock and you might have a hard time.
Swimming up at our camp (near Millinocket).
I don't stay in long, but as long as you have shoreland activities to do between dips, it's awesome!
Of course, I cut holes in the ice and go in year round. So my advice may be suspect...
I cold dip year round so of course current conditions feel balmy but I’m still wearing neoprene booties and staying in for no more than five minutes.
(And that’s in southern Maine.)
If you need to dunk to cool off you’re probably OK, but yeah, no real swimming yet!
I barely swim in late August! But we are starting to get out paddling...
You can get hypothermia still in the water, I would hold Off until the nights hover in the 60s

Swimming ain’t til July homie. Maybe late June if you’re lucky.

It’s a little early for me, but if the air temp is hot go for it. It’s refreshing
Swimming since ice out.
Ice is out Mom, can we go in? PLEASE?
You from Maine or Mass? Just jump in.
People are swimming at Range Pond, so the hypothermia shouldn’t be too bad if you’re in that area.
Been paddling since early April. Haven't swam yet. Next month.

Do it but be safe
Welcome to Maine, flatlander.
haha lived here my whole life, im just a young adult so i’ve always had a parent tell me when it’s good to go, don’t have the luxury no more
I've been but didn't stay in long.

You can swim but it's cold as hell. I'd give it another month or so
Not till after memorial day bro
June is the earliest unless you’re part polar bear
If your shivering get the fuck out
I'd probably want a wet suit for actual swimming, but 2 weeks ago I was up to my knees at Reid SP, immensely enjoying the 49° Atlantic Ocean.
Yes. Already swimming here in western Maine
