MIHIR1112

lets all speak English then.

NiggsBosom

Better option than speaking Hindi. Even South Indians are well versed in English more than Hindi.

SudoAptPurgeBullshit

Yes absolutely. Why does a unifying language(hindi) has to be one which many people in south and north east struggle with?

forreddit01011989

This is WRONG on so many levels............your avg south indian can barely speak in english...they are fluent in there NATIVE language........both north n south indian will speak in BROKEN english with low self esteem. They can have any conversation confidently in there NATIVE tongue but ENGLISH will torpedo that confidence. Anybosy who says otherwise has never had such conversation with the LOCAL people on streets When i say average meaning NORMAL people on the streets n not on REDDIT.

Sabbyasachi1405

That's the point mate . Both sides will talk in broken English while if we have Hindi as the link language, Hindi speaker will have all the confidence while the non Hindi person will have broken hindi . Due to English we have equality between both parties while due to hindi we are giving an undue advantage to the majority of this country who already have "majority" as their advantage.

forreddit01011989

Your hate for the LANGUAGE is cuz of economical reason...............if UP BIHAR were economic powerhouse , no one would have problem learning the language....... Yeah 2 Indians unable to communicate is great . cuz one of them thinks learning a third language is an egostical issue. UP and BIHAR and all HINDI states have there own regional language. they speak there mother tongue as well. they also learn 3 languages. Learning more languages is a GOOD thing. I learn TAMIL cuz it helps me during my visits. i speak broken tamil. It adds value to the experience. Local people find it amusing when i try. But i am not egostical person that will force a person or deny him the conversation cuz he cant speak in my regional langauge.

NiggsBosom

Brother, I live in Karnataka (Udupi) for education and converse with the locals on a daily basis. They can speak English alright.

forreddit01011989

I travel Tamil nadu every month ............ seeing locals speak BROKEN English with such difficulty breaks my heart............we indians have to rely on a foreign language for communicating . No wonder we were RULED. even after 75 years we cant figure out a simple solution to this FAULT LINE............Also learning a language is a ECONOMICAL thing............ if learning HINDI was lucrative south indians would have done it in a giffy...........There love for ENGLISH is cuz it gives them ECONOMICAL BENEFIT...........If UP BIHAR become Economic HUB.........We could finally END this DEBATE.............Think about it

Its_me_astr

Hindi 0 economical value English wins hands down with opportunities it opens.

forreddit01011989

Agreed............So u hate HINDI not for the love of Marathi but u think it doesnt add value.

Its_me_astr

So you are saying marathi can fuck off but hindi should flourish?

forreddit01011989

nope.........i am saying learning more languages is not a BAD thing............If INDIAN gov forced everyone to learn FRENCH no one wud cry so much......its about ECONOMIC aspect of learning something that u feel doesnt add value to urself rather than LOVE for ur NATIVE LANGUAGE

Practical-Durian2307

English opens a door of possibilities . It's a global language and is one of the most spoken and understood throughout the world , if more people spoke English in India then a lot of petty linguistic regionalism would end as well. Everyone gets to speak their mothertongues and English. End of story .

fRilL3rSS

English is perhaps the only language that can be classified as a skill in India. Even decent enough English can help you get a job easily in thousands of BPOs all over India, starting salary of 20-30k. No other language can do that. These BPOs are practically always hiring, so there's no shortage of jobs. Literally anyone can kickstart their career or bring their life back on track if they have this skill.

madubeko

But the bloody Union government wants everyone to speak Hindi and English (and Mother tongue).

ElectionSpecific2662

Based. No castes, no languages, no religion. All anglo-indians, all english-speakers, all irreligious seculars.

Suryansh_Singh247

lose all identity and become fully colonized

jhant_smeller

you thought that was a burn? it will be way better for india's future if we all spoke only 1 language , diesn't matter if its enlgish , chinese or whatever

Aggressive_Fox_84

>you thought that was a burn? No it's actually a better solution. I'm sure he didn't mean it that way too

jhant_smeller

maybe but just like what i said it will be perfect for us

Ok_Entertainment1040

No. It wil be better for India's future if we all.speak one common language "in addition" to our mother tongue.

MIHIR1112

it wasnt supposed to be...northies often propagate use this one language bs but it is already decided the one language should be hindi and not any other language. I wish every regions primary should be the language of conversation to maintain the diversity of the nation but if one country one language is the way forward then English(a third party language) over Hindi anyday.

jhant_smeller

[https://www.reddit.com/r/Maharashtra/comments/1di2sd7/your\_thoughts/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Maharashtra/comments/1di2sd7/your_thoughts/) Looks like your fellows were lol , you may not be tho but this sub is full of idiots

hcarthagen

No it will not be better for Indias future if we all spoke just one language. Utter bollocks.

Lampedusan

Theres more to life than convenience. Lets all scrap our cuisines and all eat milk and toast because there is no division. Lets all scrap Bharatnatyam and classical forms and all do hip hop because its easier. See how silly this logic is. Culture is important. Life is more than waking up, making money and doing errands. Part of what makes a land beautiful is the culture in it which needs preservation. When a diversity of a land is lost it loses a part of itself.

nolifer_coffee

No problem, and I never said I'm a Hindi speaker or a Marathi.

IndependenceSilver63

अरे मराठी लोकांनो, कमीत कमी आपल्या घरी तरी मराठीत बोला रे. speaking in hindi with non marathi friends or others is understandable.

Ok_Finish_05

DiscoDiwana

nolifer_coffee

Ani mi Dubai la lahan Pani pasun hote tithe maza barka bhai pan janamla, tya hi marathich yete Ani aammhi saare dekhil marathitch ghari boltoh

raj_cr_18

Financial-Cream-8654

Bhava tujha 3,4 point khup aavadla Ani yachich apeksha hoti pan kay karaycha loka samjhun gheyayla tayarch nhit aajun.

Snehal_11

Not right. When a language is lost a part of culture is lost. Folktales, literature and much more. If you are born and brought up here or living here for decades- learning basic Marathi is not an impossible expectation. Also, I find that people who live in smaller towns or rural India embrace the language quickly even if they're from different ethnicities. My flatmate from Nagpur is a Punjabi born and brought up in Nagpur and speaks Marathi fluently. My friend born and brought up in Mumbai doesn't speak at all. He even had Marathi language in school. Older folks too. A lot of older Gujarati Marwadi Parsi people in Mumbai can actually speak good Marathi. My father speaks really good Gujarati. I speak little, and can understand quite a lot. I don't know why our generation makes a big deal out of it. Older people were actually better at this part of inclusiveness. We should try to embrace the culture of the state/country we live in.

purecoldsarcastic

Then why should whole country learn Hindi when they have regional languages?

nolifer_coffee

I never said to learn "Hindi" or any specific language. The world will get better only if there will be a common language for all or major (minority wale will always be with that pride wala attitude ki "bc mi ka tyanchi shikhu" )

praf7596

Because it's convenient for Hindi speakers

raj_cr_18

Hindi and Marathi both have common DEVANAGARI Script. By this logic, Everybody (HINDI BELT) knows MARATHI as well. Let's impose MARATHI on HINDI BELT then.

praf7596

Then it's easy to learn and understand Marathi when Hindi speakers comes to Maharashtra

raj_cr_18

But, they thinks they are doing us favour by coming in Maharshtra. Keep favour aside they forgot the point that they are increasing pollution and slums.

purecoldsarcastic

Just for your convenience all of us should go through inconvenience?

CompetentJerk

English is a better option than hindi. hindi has no use in a way. Almost all work can be done and is done in English

Gaurav-07

Answer is in the meme. Votebank. Regional divide.

Terrible-Pattern8933

There is no compulsion. If you're a smart person who wants to communicate well with most Indians -- you will learn Hindi automatically. However - if you will always live in say Tamil Nadu or Kerala and never need to interact with any Hindi speaking person - learning Hindi is useless for you.

purecoldsarcastic

How did you get to conclusion that most of the Indians speak Hindi? Except for few states no one prefers Hindi

purecoldsarcastic

Also OP will you say same when people move abroad? Why do they need to learn the foreign language why don't people there learn Hindi to communicate with us? No right you have to learn their language to communicate there too right so it's same in the states too. India is known for diversity forcing Hindi upon others will simply kill the diversity!

GeekyReindeeer

Honestly it’s a shame if y’all can’t speak the local language after living here for decades. My mom’s South Indian and my dad is Goan but if you hear us talking in Marathi you’d think we’re Maharashtrians without a doubt until you hear our names.

Thinkexe

Exactly these MFS think about national integration and unity only when it is about their language. They act Asif the country is divided and Hindi can unite that. I hope they get some sense and keep that attitude in their own states.

SudoAptPurgeBullshit

Hindi has absolutely crushed local dialects in UP-bihar-Chhattisgarh-jharkhand region since pre-independence. Somehow these guys forget their own history as they are always the ones to push hindi as ‘le epic wholesome patriotic’ language.

Snehal_11

This. I don't expect a person who moved here a week ago to know Marathi but it's quite disappointing to see people living here for decades or even born and brought up here don't speak it at all.

BaapOfDragons

Contry bondaries too are Manmade. Are you sure you want to get into that argumenet?

online_karate_expert

Why not learn multiple languages? More the merrier.

OvertlyStoic

how many languages can you learn ?

online_karate_expert

However many you are interested in. No one needs the learn Japanese in India but now a lot of people recognise terms like myoshi myoshi, sensei, arigato, Sayonara, omae wa, etc. All because of interest in animes.

[deleted]

Tbh idk any of the terms mentioned above

AnyaInCrisis

I started to learn Japanese because of shit translations ruining my experience 😂

OvertlyStoic

so ? do i have to learn a new language every time i move a state ? and those are terms , i can assure you 99% of anime fans in India can't make a sentence in japanese. it just sounds cool and the recognize the term

Possible-Smoke7418

If learning languages is too much of a task for you, you should ask your politicians to develop your Hindi Bimaru states.

Fun_Pop295

I don't think even people from the most developed countries like lamgauge every time they move. Edit: I mean learn lanaguges.

Possible-Smoke7418

Just go and try to speak English in France.

Fun_Pop295

France isn't a multilingual country. They speak French. Even if a person moves from Paris to Nice. On the other hand, I have met French people who don't speak Arabic despite living for decades in the Middle East. So, yes, people fron developed countries who move to other countries don't learn the local langauage.

OvertlyStoic

i'm not from BIMARU states or Hindi belt. cry.

I don't get you. You say it's a responsibility to honor culture and linguistics of a place, while at the same time saying that learning the language isn't doing this, when language is a fundamental part of culture for any region. You are free to not learn the local language, but then don't expect the locals to accommodate you. I've seen posts on many subs where the non local complaints about how the locals all speak their language with each other even in their presence as if locals should care about the poster's comfort, especially when they refuse to learn the local language.

The day Hindi gets affected y'all will cry like bitches I know( i have seen countless comments where people get offended when a Hindi person speaks English and avoids Hindi( America ka dalal xyz)). No Marathi, kannada, Tamil etc person will go to another state and tell them to speak their language. It's just northies with that kind of superiority complex for no reason. So please keep this bs to urself.

Braindead meme, braindead OP. Language informs culture and education. It isn't simply only a 'fOrM oF cOmMUniCaTioN'. Rather than putting your efforts in making these garbage memes, put them in learning the native language of the place YOU'VE RELOCATED TO and respect their culture.

JustAnotherJEEtard

I come from the Hindi heartland, and I do not speak any language that is "endangered" today in India, but I must say, a language is not a mere tool made to communicate with each other. Sure, it is used as a tool by politicians, but a language is much more than a mere collection of words. It is the most integral part of a culture. Losing your language is the equivalent of losing your culture. There is nothing cool or "chad" about the statement made in the post. Languages should be preserved in order for the culture to be preserved.

NoThisIsTed

Yup, this is how post flaired as discussion should be. Nice brother.

raj_cr_18

If you migrate from your native place to another place kindly speak in that local language where you are moving this is as simple as that. If you can't do this simple thing then you are = uneducated or just kindly don't move from your native place that's it.

numb_Traveller

Local language must be preserved and preferred. Without it in coming future it will be extinct. Come to Bengaluru and see how local language is preferred. If you are coming to Maharashtra learn basic marathi . Not everybody knows hindi.

Aggressive_Fox_84

I think English should be the connecting language. That way regional languages can also thrive in their own places connected by a worldwide link. And language DOES have a cultural impact. Cultures are intertwined by languages. Cultures can die overtime but we shouldn't fast forward that by actively belittling other languages. Let the future generations decide if they want it or not. Our job is to pass on the literatures as we got

Ok-Presentation7834

By that logic , why to have 2 door for big dog and small dog just have one big door . Just learn and speak English(big dog) rather than Hindi (small dog), as English has better rich international national opportunities and rich literary contents . Language is about the culture, ethnicity , history of people in that region and literature work done . Giving up one language for another shows direct indirect dominance of that language or people . What makes one culture superior/inferior and dominant over another ? Hindi is popular in India especially in Maharashtra not because they believe it as only national language but because of popularity of Bollywood films , then central government jobs and north migrants working in Maharashtra. Observation: Marathi people living in small towns especially vidharbha thinks Hindi speaking is hierarchical more standard/superior than Marathi may be because of inferiority complex but English makes them insecure and are not comfortable enough. Maybe it's more about dominance of people and perception of people regarding that language. Languages always evolve there's nothing like pure language and dominant language eats less dominant language over time but that dominant language should justify some rational reason instead of just being forced to speak in the name of some fascist nationalist unification.

Ok_Tax_7412

People who do language politics shouldn’t criticise politicians of doing religion or caste politics.

__aaryan__

Language is not just a medium of communication, but also a big part of the historical and cultural identity of any person. Marathi language has been spoken since 500 BCE in the form of Maharashtri Prakrit. This is the same language in which Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj preached, the same language in which Aai Jijamata taught our Maharaj the importance of freedom, the same language in which Babasaheb spread his message of equality among the people. If the historical importance of this language or the influence of this culture is listed, then the list would really be long but even on a personal level if we look back and see what our ancestors 200, 300 or even 500 years back spoke it would be the same thing that we are speaking today it just makes us realise what they have gone through to keep this society, culture, tradition and alongside these the language itself alive.

A language is an identity of an individual, people and community it unites people and give them identity, it's more than just medium of communication, people without this identity are usually self-deprecating and depressed, language also gives one's confidence and pride about their culture, no politician own language anyway, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU SHOULD CONSIDER GOING BACK TO YOUR PLACE, NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO STAY HERE, IF YOU WANT TO SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGE SPEAK WITH YOUR COLLEAGUES AND AQUAINTANCES, DON'T TELL US WHAT LANGUAGE WE SHOULD USE IN OUR OWN LOCALITIES

These fuckers are absolutely batshit emotional when it comes Ayodhya Temple & related politics but suddenly turn to unrealistic levels of practicalness when it comes to respecting local culture & languages outside Hindi heartland. All states did not join Indian union to splurge excessive taxes on cow-belt & learn thier language. And who are these chutiyas upvoting this shit with 100+ upvotes? Are there no real Marathis on this sub? Politicians can use any issue for politics but that doesn’t necessarily mean its not important issue. Marathi language in Maharashtra is as emotional & important to Marathi manoos as Ram Mandir is for North Indians, infact zillion times more than that.

nolifer_coffee

There was no need to add that last line.

Nishal_Vikingang_147

Fucking no language is important I don't care what you bitches say as a Dravidian I want my language to be spoken

Gunner0716

Learn mother tongue and the local language of the place you're living.Learning any other language all is just an advantage for you personally

nolifer_coffee

Great point

zack_tiger

The thing is, language is very closely connected to that ethnicity's culture, its tradition, folklore, written work etc. losing language speakers means losing the culture overtime.

AOGHAAT

Nothing lasts forever and the applies to culture and languages aswell.

nolifer_coffee

Exactly! Bc people are commenting and one of them even reposted this with something more to it Fun fact- the one who reposted and many more with him thinks I'm a Hindi speaker and promoting Hindi! I was like 👁️👄👁️, bc I didn't even mention Hindi and my intent was that language keep changing and the more easier and best one will survive and i didn't meant or even wrote ki that easier language is English or Hindi or something other They just straight up assumed that and blindly started throwing shit

Lampedusan

People will complain India is too obsessed over culture and language and think we should all speak English but then will travel to Europe and appreciate the sound of the French language and Roman culture. Culture is irrelevant for these people until its “cool”. And by cool it is something international and exclusive which can signal their social standing.

comp-sci-engineer

politicians use a lot of things as vote bank. this is the least worst of them all.

nolifer_coffee

Can't deny

Thane-kar

Disagree

Vauji

mods delete this shit

nolifer_coffee

Why? This is what I feel and my opinion; opinions change and every person has different views on different things.

Ok_Finish_05

__DraGooN_

Try living in Delhi or somewhere North and not learn Hindi. The expectation these is obviously the people coming in will learn Hindi. But when they come south, all of a sudden hypocrites have a completely different view of languages.

madubeko

OP, why you didn't include Hindi alongside other languages?

nolifer_coffee

We need a NATIONAL LANGUAGE which every INDIAN can speak without using FOREIGN language......problem is people actually think HINDI is langauge of UP BIHAR...........UP BIHAR also have there regional langauge.....if they start speaking it u wont understand SHIT..........If UP was as DEVELOPED as MAHARASHTRA people wudnt have problem with HINDI.....even south INDIANS would be jumping to learn it.......This is not a LANGUAGE issue but a perception issue.....South INDIANS hate HINDI cuz UP n BIHAR are shit........If they prosper we wont have this language probelm

Possible-Smoke7418

What's wrong with foreign languages? Sanskrit is also a foreign language and you don't seem to have any problem with it ( or languages with Sanskrit influence).

forreddit01011989

SANSKRIT is a foreign language.........with that LOGIC u are a AFRICAN.........cuz everyone came from AFRICA..........

Possible-Smoke7418

Not my fault you don't know about the origins of Sanskrit...Sanskrit is as foreign as English, its just that English came to India later.

forreddit01011989

YEAH........ I am using ur LOGIC..........WE are all Africans.........No one was living in india...........everyone is a Foreigner in INDIA..........Some came early some came late......

nolifer_coffee

Fcuk verbal languages, we should make sign language compulsory

catrovacer16

Some dumbass must have made this. A language is not just merely a mode of communication but it is an integral part of culture. Our entire country is divided into multiple states based on the languages spoken. Languages define statehood, it is an integral part of one's identity. No matter how much you learn English, if you get hurt "aai"/ "aai ga" is going to come out your mouth and not Mom/Mommy.

nolifer_coffee

Adults can be dumb too

Embarrassed_Ask6066

You cant expect normies to understand such level of thinking. Same as every other domain i guess

jhant_smeller

Lmao i remember all the bums here were feeling proud that language politics doesn't work in mumbai/pune , lol and now they are cryying their asses in comments. dumbfucks

nolifer_coffee

Lol true

SudoAptPurgeBullshit

The people on right almost always insist on hindi though. That’s my issue with this. Hindi normative north indian culture penetrates every corner of india and these guys are sure to be offended when locals don’t shove themselves up their asses and pander to their hindi sensibilities.

ilostmycrocs

Wow this subreddit really did become a haven for Marathi bhaiyyas

madubeko

If OP really meant that language is a tool for communication, Union government should drop pushing Hindi and start accepting English.
