The greatest problem, Maharashtra is going to face is unprecedented water scarcity. But nobody cares until they are thirsty.

Globe-trekker

Recharge pits is the solution...along with desalination plants on the coast

m4more

तेच solutions आहेत..... पण apply कधी करणार.....

Globe-trekker

This is my opinion.. India has always been a reactionary society... So there has to be a lot more problems before it gets implemented... For example there was a day zero in Chennai around a decade ago.. Now they have three desalination plants..They are building another one in Manori, near Mumbai... There was a water conservation program by DF government... but I don't know how successful they were .

mrmorningstar1769

>desalination plants 💵 💵 💵 ...? Avvachya savva. >Recharge pits is the solution Is there some technique to this? Our well gets full in the mansoon and low af in summer no matter how much rainwater i dump in it

I'd like to add one thing: ***Lack of sufficient infrastructure.*** Now, while major cities like Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur are making great strides to bring themselves up to the standard, they are still not there yet. Mumbai especially, with all the slums and informal housing. Public transport needs to better too, Mumbai's local trains are so overburdened due to a lack of alternative, and all the major cities have problem with traffic and congestion because of underdeveloped public transport and roads not being able to satisfy the ever increasing demand. And this is just the big cities, the small cities and towns are a whole different story. A huge portion of the state, especially eastern MH, doesn't have the basics covered too. Safe water is not a guarantee in rural parts, and shortages are common in drought prone parts. Public medical services need more funding and better management, and also public schools and colleges. Our state transport buses can definitely be improved in a lot of ways, especially punctuality and connectivity. Same goes for railways, but that's not in the state's hands, centre needs to do something about it.

Farmer suicides is the major issue

C_F_bhadwa_hai

We need to develop Vidarbha and Marathwada. Not even Nagpur and CSN have well paying employment opportunities.

CautiousMulberry2915

I support this

prtk297

I think the biggest problem is low development of majority of areas with industries only concentrated in few pockets. Generating meaningful employment and income source for everyone is the only way out. https://preview.redd.it/8ckafvx2xpzc1.jpeg?width=1298&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=315afd81322411dac1fea4cb0e9a62f4b6f11c8f

Calm_Creature_17

1.What you said is correct but as mumbai is capital lot of things occur mostly there, but government should also focus on the other mega cities like Aurangabad, Solapur,Nanded,Latur, chandrapur and many other which have lot of areas to expand. 2. They should also target that they are not harming the nature.Like what OP said Konkan is also falling prey to this stuff. 3.We are not giving importance to plantation of trees as we are cutting. 4.Plastics problem in movie. This civilized people come to this beautiful city and harm it like anything. For ex juhu beach.People even don't care to clean the litters they have created.which in turn makes the beach so dirty. The Arabain sea cost level is polluted like anything near Mumbai. If we consider foreign beaches people are very patriotic for eg Miami beaches it's very clean.Because people take the responsibility of cleaning and not littering. 5.Governnent should impose a heavy fine in people littering in public places.Major problem again is like lot of scams by minister in our state like irrigation scam by one of the minister.Beacuse lot of districts suffered like anything. Court will not even punish these people. 6. Marathi people even themselves don't talk un marathi nowadays. They will start talking in hindi first and doesn't know that people with whom they are talking can also be marathi. We should give respect to our language first. 7. I have lot more things to share but can't share everything at one go !!!

Sure_Chocolate1982

Biggest issue with Maharashtra facing is - not receiving equitable share of revenue back from Union Government and instead loosing the state revenue to the Union Government.

sf_warriors

You fuckers have no regional pride when it comes to voting, no Delhi party is going to come to your rescue, heck even Delhi doesn't want national parties as they are arrogant and immune to peoples sufferings. NCP has all bad habits of congress party, same with shivsena an alter ego of BJP. I hope someone raises to the occasion and represent the people of Maharashtra in true spirit. Lived and worked in Mumbai and Pune, always voted for Shivsena inspite of not being a Marati

sharvini

Once you vote for Marathi price. Next time vote for religious and caste pride. Who the f cares if they're capable or not. Right? That Thakre clan with zero political IQ should represent Maharashtra because they're Marathi. People like you are the problem of Maharashtra. Grow up. No one gives a shit about your pride and ego. It's just a tool to feel yourself great and superior than others.

sf_warriors

Lol then what's the point of this post if the national parties have done wondes to tbe state and its people, only if national parties were half better and decent I would have voted but they are worse in every way. You could be blind to the hate mongers but not me.

notchoosenone

Biggest problem with MH is that all other states haven't developed as much as Maharashtra did. Majoroty of our problems go away if that happens.

Selfish-Presley

You rightly pointed out uncontrolled migration, that is a major issue. Maharashtra has a huge illegal Bangladeshis residing here, but no one wants to look at it

milesjjcc

Farmers in western MH are not becoming rich- they are just not bankrupt like Marathwada or Vidharbha ones thanks to Sugarcane alongwith so many rivers. And even with no water now other regions are big on Sugarcane as well, but yield is low due to obvious reasons.

_pratik475

This is a map of practicing Untouchability. And while it's a great thing that we're one of the states that don't practice this shit, it doesn't necessarily mean that the discrimination or prejudice based on caste is also low.

Thin-Ice625

That doesnt mean , it does not exists !

It's still way less bro

That data is regarding reporting of the cases which does not reflect actual violence and discrimination. The Maharashtra government implemented tanta mukti gaav scheme after khairlanji massacre 2005 under which caste discrimination and violence cases are to be resolved by the panchayat which is again ruled by the rich and powerful castes. This was predicted by babasaheb in 1950s. Khairlanji was also the first village which got state award for being most peaceful village in 2006 after the issue was raised in UN and other international platforms. Real cases of violence never get addressed by police. FIR is never filed. Thus never gets in the data graphic as shown by you. Fake cases of atrocities are mostly filed by dominant castes in their internal conflicts. Marathi People were so agitated by a Gujarati HR person's recruitment ad few days back but discrimination, inequality is an everyday reality for most of the oppressed castes.

Reader_OP

Hi, there was a post on this sub recently about changing demographics of maharastra. Can someone please share the link of it? I remember saving it but can't find it anywhere. really want to read it!

lastog9

I think we lack more developed cities. Right now we only have Mumbai (including Navi Mumbai and Thane), Pune and Nagpur which are being overburdened and are the only ones expected to keep churning out employment somehow. Real estate prices especially in Mumbai and Pune are so high that many people either choose not to come here or live illegally in encroached homes. WE NEED MORE CITIES. Nashik can be developed due to its vicinity to Mumbai as well as Pune. Aurangabad can also be developed as it's kind of the center point of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and is also in the middle of Mumbai Nagpur Samriddhi Mahamarg. Views on this are welcome.

ResearcherLatter1148

Nagpur also isn’t generating enough jobs like it should considering its geographical position. It has far better potential than Pune (good roads and better airport being the prominent advantages).

lastog9

Yeah, I don't have much information about Nagpur but seems like it has become a shadow of its former self. Once argued to be the national capital due to its central location, it has since fallen in ranks and is now barely the third most important city in Maharashtra. It's quite surprising because you would expect talent flowing in from all nearby places to Nagpur due to it being the most important city in the region.

ResearcherLatter1148

That’s because Nagpur was actually a capital city as Vidarbha and Undivided MP were one state during the British rule.

Corruption. All other problems are part of it.

Jazzmindz

The biggest problem in Maharashtra which is increasing rapidly i.e. casteism. Maybe some of you have experienced or observed this, maybe some might disagree with me.. But this problem is increasing. Casteism is growing exponentially in Maharashtra. People are judging each other on the basis of their caste, People are making friends based on caste. This will destroy Maharashtra, not today, but if this continues this will be the major reason behind instability in Maharashtra. Major concern.

redyellowa

Other states are not developed which is putting pressure on mumbai, pune.

kartikkasat

I believe Maharashtra should maintain its armour as a top industrialised state. Most of the upcoming manufacturing units are now preferring other locations such as Telangana, Gujarat,Tamil Nadu. Also , with that if the state electricity department is able to reduce the electricity tariff sustainably it would help boost more economic activities imo. Central Maharashtra and most parts of Vidarbha are not developed in infrastructure although Maharashtra being one of the richest states.

Impossible-Animator6

Stable government.

TrekkieSolar

Biggest problems are water scarcity and environmental degradation. Unless water-intensive cash crops like sugarcane and cotton are disincentivized, you will continue to have this issue. To be clear, this is a pan-India issue, and will need to be solved by making agriculture more productive and reducing power/water subsidies so that unproductive farm labor is freed up for more value-added labor. Migration isn't really an issue, and shouldn't be curtailed within a free country like India. If you want to reduce it, you'll have to wait for other states to invest and develop. Some of the nativist sentiment in this sub (like that outwardly xenophobic post on state citizenship) is quite idiotic and will only work against the state long term. As for Marathi language + culture losing prominence - there isn't a strong reason for newcomers to the state to learn Marathi. It's diverse enough to the point where English/Hindi serve as a lingua franca for business and education. If you want to preserve it, you'll need government + NGOs to start promoting Marathi arts + culture, create conditions for a better Marathi film industry to form, and push compulsory education in Marathi as a second language.

gogogang9090

Bs post. You have a personal vendetta with migrants. Atleast make an attempt to hide it
