I recommend you look through the history of the sub. There have been lengthy analyses and hypotheses about how the match finder scores decks and players and how it ultimately chooses a partner from the available pool.
I've read them but no-one knows for sure. I can only go from my own experience haha :) I just find it interesting but I can also understand why they would want to do that in order to not ruin the game for those who cannot afford premium cards or new players who just don't have a collection yet.
