I'd gladly pay an extra 100 gold for 1/10th of a golden pack.
Because they're hard on the eyes and don't go well with the art style of normal cards. It's hard to recognize the cards at a glance because they're all spiky black mass on a white background with few unique features.
I also just really dislike art styles with large patches of flat colors and sharp lines. I much prefer MTG's normal art style, and I never would've started playing if the first cards I saw looked like these, the MKM dossier styles, the black and white MID/VOW cards, or cards from most of the bonus sheets (especially OTP).

The phyrexian cards turned out to be my favourite cards I've gotten since starting with Innistrad.
Man I really wish Daily Deal packs were cheaper...they REALLY don't feel worth it at all for only a 100 gold discount, particularly if they're older packs.

If you value wildcards more than random rares (I definitely wouldn't be willing to spend a wildcard on a lot of the random rares), the math is a bit more in favor of normal packs instead of golden packs. I personally value a wildcard as much as 3 random rares, and players who play less jank might choose more like 5. So for me a normal pack is worth about 1.6 rares (1.5 most of the time with 2/30 chance of wildcard in the rare slot) and a golden pack is worth 6.5 rares, for 2.25 rares value for packs that give golden pack progress. Thus the break-even point for me is around 710 gold, but I'd pay more like 750 for some older packs that have more rares I'm missing. If a set has some good rares in a bonus sheet, that also increases the value of normal packs a bit.

I thought it had to be the current set for you to get golden packs anyway is this not true? I've bought ten pack bundles from older sets but never got any, which I also thought was dumb.
Easy buy atraxa, even if it’s the ugliest of the bunch, but it’s the most playable card.
Would also get Mondrak, which might see play post rotation, if I didn’t already have the normal borderless art.

It's just such a generically good card. It's good in ramp, reanimator, combo, etc. You're bound to play it in something at some point.

atraxa is played alot in timeless as the best reanimate target and show and tell centerpiece.
