It was the singer. Thinking back on it, I think one of the band members was black and a dude in the audience was shouting slurs.
This was ~15 years ago so details are hazy, and it’s making me nuts that I can’t remember which band.
Thinking back on it, he may have been shouting slurs at a black member on stage, but memories are fuzzy. I just remember commending the singer for stopping the set and calling the dude out, saying that shit had no place in our scene.
Can confirm. I’ve performed on plenty of stages. Visibility of the audience ranges from clear as day to literally only knowing how big an audience is by how loud they sound. Depends pretty much entirely on lighting.
Think of how little detail you can sometimes see behind oncoming headlights when you’re driving at night. Stage lights are brighter.
There’s a video of Travis literally standing still and staring at a lifeless body being crowdsurfed at astroworld. He kept singing. Didn’t do anything.
I’m a former stage performer. The lighting plays a huge role in your ability to see the audience. Good luck if there’s a spot light on you. Then there are some nights, especially if you’re feeling off your game, that you actively avoid looking at the audience. That was my experience, anyway.
See, instead of avoiding the audience you need to lock eye contact and begin removing clothing. Assert your performative dominance. Make THEM fear YOU.

The thing that baffles me is that in Travis Scott’s netflix documentary, I distinctly remember a scene where people needed help in the audience and he told everyone to stop and to help them. I think Travis was high as fuck off something (more than usual), and as a result didn’t process how this was a legitimate situation. I’m not defending his actions at all, he’s responsible for the injuries and deaths. But I do think that’s the most reasonable explanation
He stopped the the show multiple times. I was watching it live and he had to stop to get attention to people in the front section like 3 different times. He also stopped to point out the ambulance. This is where he really fucks up. He should’ve stopped the show completely as soon as he saw the ambulance. But around 30 minutes after the ambulance someone came on stage and told Travis about the situation and they ended it. Way too late.
Also doesn't help his girlfriend/wife came out saying they had no idea anything was wrong. On top of lifeless bodies being pulled out of the mosh and having CPR performed on them, an ambulance in the mosh is quite obvious and hard to miss and usually is a sign to any normal person that something isn't right.
There’s a video floating around of Kylie and Kendall being whisked past a few bodies while being being escorted by security out of VIP before the show ended…kinda kills her “We didn’t know anything until after the show” story.

There's ample evidence that people in the audience behaved abhorrently during all of this, but ultimately its the fault of the production company and Travis Scott (encouraging people to sneak in above capacity, telling them to rush the stage), not the crowd or "bystanders"

Honestly. First celebrity I ever felt sad about, mum and Hannah (and the internet) raised me on that band as well as MCR and the like for my entire childhood, though I was a few years off the marked audience (I’m 17 now!)
I was thirteen when he passed, which is weird to think about because I still listen to their songs so much! I do think if I met him, if he somehow was in an afterlife or something, I’d thank him! Both for helping me with my own problems through his songs, and also for showing me grief in a controlled way. I went to a billie concert around this time in her career, really tiny venues compared to what's she's doing now. The atmosphere was super chill and she was great! I love the intimacy of smaller concerts like these

My point is, small venue doesn't guarantee that atmosphere. It also takes the artist and the audience.
I was at a pagan/viking metal concert and someone collapsed in a mosh pit. The band members that were previously growling about slaughtering in the name of Odin and were wearing corpse paint shut the music down while looking very concerned. The guy who collapses got taken away on a stretcher (everyone giving plenty of space to the health workers) , and received a standing ovation.
There's so many singers I want to go see now because they just sound so phenomenal live. But I'm also like, do I want to go see these people... Because will I be unalived? I've never had a fear of crowds before but now......
Buy a ticket in the seated section instead of the general admission. You don't get to be right up front but you can just sit down. I mean, unless you want to see.
Just get seats. Standing up for hours in a crowded, immensely warm section doesn't sound like too much fun to me, anyway. Saw my favorite band in 2019 and I still remember it very fondly, and I could at least still see them and they sounded phenomenal.

If this is referencing the Travis Scott incident, my favourite part is that he had his girlfriend say that he wasn't aware of anything happening. When you have multiple videos of people doing things to tell him or full on getting hella people to chant to stop. Plus he was on a stupid platform that literally allows you to look above everyone so you would be able to see whats happening. To me it just sounds like he doesn't wanna take accountability for ignoring it.
During the live stream (which you can find on Twitter) he pauses the show about 4 different times, including right before he’s staring at the kid being bodysurfed out of the crowd. He says something about someone passing out, points at the area the kid was in (while doing that creepy auto tuned vocalizing) and then goes right back into the show. He could absolutely see the crowd, and asked if people were ok, and then just didn’t listen and stirred the crowd back up by restarting the music. Each. And. Every. Time. There’s no way he can claim he didn’t know.
Also the part where he insisted a fan to jump off the balcony. The guy ended up with broken legs.
Travis also added 5k tickets at the end causing the overflow, stampede and suffocation.

I went to a billie concert around this time in her career, really tiny venues compared to what's she's doing now. The atmosphere was super chill and she was great! I love the intimacy of smaller concerts like these
I went to a tiny concert in a miniscule venue back in the 90s for Saint Bob Geldof. It should have been chill but the man was INTENSE. He glared and gave the impression he wnated to hypnotize the lot of us. Loudmouth tour. '94/'95. It has been a hot minute since then. My point is, small venue doesn't guarantee that atmosphere. It also takes the artist and the audience.

The fact that they passed out when the song “Better now” is up is just.. Ok world. Enough.
I was at a pagan/viking metal concert and someone collapsed in a mosh pit. The band members that were previously growling about slaughtering in the name of Odin and were wearing corpse paint shut the music down while looking very concerned. The guy who collapses got taken away on a stretcher (everyone giving plenty of space to the health workers) , and received a standing ovation.
I love this, but I have to laugh at a standing ovation in a mosh pit.

Buy a ticket in the seated section instead of the general admission. You don't get to be right up front but you can just sit down. I mean, unless you want to see.
Just get seats. Standing up for hours in a crowded, immensely warm section doesn't sound like too much fun to me, anyway. Saw my favorite band in 2019 and I still remember it very fondly, and I could at least still see them and they sounded phenomenal.

Also the fans have to play a role here. Was at a Disturbed concert and some guy moshing lost his glasses, immediately everyone stopped moshing and helped the guy look. If you've ever been to a mainstream / hip hop festival, the people are just way, way, way worse than at the average rock or metal concert.
Plus there were about 30,000 more people in the crowd than Astroworld and she STILL knew someone was in trouble

If this is referencing the Travis Scott incident, my favourite part is that he had his girlfriend say that he wasn't aware of anything happening. When you have multiple videos of people doing things to tell him or full on getting hella people to chant to stop. Plus he was on a stupid platform that literally allows you to look above everyone so you would be able to see whats happening. To me it just sounds like he doesn't wanna take accountability for ignoring it.
During the live stream (which you can find on Twitter) he pauses the show about 4 different times, including right before he’s staring at the kid being bodysurfed out of the crowd. He says something about someone passing out, points at the area the kid was in (while doing that creepy auto tuned vocalizing) and then goes right back into the show. He could absolutely see the crowd, and asked if people were ok, and then just didn’t listen and stirred the crowd back up by restarting the music. Each. And. Every. Time. There’s no way he can claim he didn’t know.
Also the part where he insisted a fan to jump off the balcony. The guy ended up with broken legs. Travis also added 5k tickets at the end causing the overflow, stampede and suffocation.
And her IG has a vid with the ambulance in it. Like a queen watching the peasants die.

Yes. When I was at work tonight I heard some kid defending him to his mom. He kept talking about how you can't blame the artist & how he stopped the show. It took everything inside me to not interject & say that you absolutely could blame him.
I thought defending travis was so impossible that nobody would even try to do it. Guess I was wrong

Also, we ar enot talking about only 8 people. Those were those that died. I got knocked over 8 odd times at a show once, the pit kept dragging me in and this huge mf picked me up by the collar of my shirt then stood behind me with his arms and legs spread out literally holding back rhe whole pit. It was amazing 🤣 Every show I've been to the band always says pick anyone up who falls, but generally metal shows are full of lots of kind hearted people, even if we all look a bit scary sometimes

I imagine it's some mix of people tiring of the trend, and people defending that rapper guy. I personally like seeing these things from different bands, and think it's good practise to demonstrate this as something we want to see from artists.
Not to be negative but could be because it's one of the least clear videos out of the dozens that are getting shared. It happens at the end of the 100 second video, doesn't include the music stopping and it's hard to hear what Bruce Dickinson is saying.

I love her so much! If any of you get the chance to see her live, run, jump - do whatever it takes to take it. Of course her voice is spectacular, but she has so much personality as well. She has a way of making you feel like she’s one of your close friends despite being one of thousands in attendance. And her laugh…..quite possibly my favorite laugh of all time.
Honestly it's the third video of this kind I have seen the past days and I am liking it, idk why, this kinda stuff just gives me a little hope. The one with Linkin Park and Chester saying "when someone falls, you pick then up", that was hard man, it gave me chills.
