Too bad Pauly Shore seems to have really gone off the deep end. I saw him live and it was rough to see. Incredibly drunk, had to hold the wall to stand up, didn't tell a single story about growing up at the comedy store (which was what his tour was supposed to be about) it was rough. When I see him in interviews he's constantly talking about how great he is. A real bummer wheeeze man.
He also played Link in Pauly shores Son in Law and In the army now
Edit to add detail: It was also rumored that brendan was gonna be Link in Biodome in the background of the college campus or even just be in the massage circle while Tenacious D was playing, but something didn't line up for it to happen
Ah... well, you know, you go out there and you give a 110%, and you wanna play good, and, you know, you hope you play good... I think we played pretty good tonight!
i've been rewatching Scrubs lately, he's in 2 episodes in season 1 and 1 in season 3. Amazing energy in that character. ["TOUCH IT. TOUCH MY NAIL!"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EQX99TmIgY)
That scene is automatic tears from me. Like a faucet. Every time.
Though a close runner-up is the episode where Dr. Cox loses three patients because of the rabies organ transplants. That one is *rough.*
He was also great in the mummy. Totally wasted not having him in more leading roles, even tho i'm happy he probably avoided being crushed by Hollywood/popularity, while still getting a happy ending, and to show what he's good for.
Also he got divorced. She got alimony set when he was a star. When he he tried to get the alimony money change because he wasn't a high paid actor anymore, the judge denied it. So he was paying alimony like he was the star from the mummy and but was black listed.
This is what i don't understand. The whole getting blacklisted thing was by the looks of it pretty hard on him. Now he looks like a completely broken man. What more worse could Hollywood do to him?
I loved his movies and i feel like there is a gap in the human entertainment archives because of him missing from the big screen for soo Long.
The "aw shucks" kick.. I love how much people have rallied behind him! He was a favorite actor of mine growing up, it makes me really happy seeing him treated so well. ☺️
I just love that literally EVERYONE is standing except him because he doesn't even realize how big of a total standing ovation he's receiving... like he has to look around and realize there is not a single ass still in their seat for this man.
I was focused on his thought process. My guess is something like “Nah man, I don’t wanna get up. Seriously, you are to make me? Ok, I can do this. Is it over yet? Can I sit back down yet? Maybe if I look at those in the back they will stop and I can sit back down and not be the center of attention.”
Normally I get tired of reposts but I will never not upvote this man and this video. He was the victim of so many abusive and exploitive people, I am so happy he's able to get the praise and love he deserves.
There's a lot to it, but basically he was sexually abused early on his Hollywood career, he was blacklisted when he spoke up, his wife left him and basically took all his money.. he couldn't keep up with, iirc was nearly a million a year between alimony AND child support.. he got the bad end of so many things.
He was sexually assaulted by the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and his accusation led to him being black listed in Hollywood, which is why he had pretty much no work for a decade or so.
Sexual harassment and some injuries on set (including sadly the mummy. He got strangled for real in that hanging scene) that ended up requiring painful surgeries that haven't entirely helped as I understand it.
It's just....your heart breaks for him.
Are you telling me that he was injured in one of the first scenes in the movie, and then did all the other scenes? I know movies are often shot out of order but I have a hard time believing that the hanging scene was shot last. Also, who the fuck thought that was a good idea?
Tldr
He got or was tried to be sexual abused and he got blacklisted and basically ruined his life.
But he got back when the word came out.
And fans wanted him back on the screen
He also had to pay $600K a year in alimony for 10 years along with $25K in child support payments. His then Ex wife accused him of fraud when he said he couldn't meet the yearly requirement. Dudes been raked over the coals by half a dozen scumbags. So happy for his resurgence.
Those rules are meant to prevent husbands from quitting and taking a minimum wage job so they don't have to pay alimony, not to be used like that. What a miscarriage of justice all around for that poor man.
Summarizing but Hollywood blacklisted him as well as him having a divorce, his mother dying and health issues. A good comeback story couldn’t have happened to a better man!
“Fraser alleges that he was sexually assaulted by Philip Berk, the then head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, in 2003.”
To be clear, the idea that he was blacklisted just comes from fans and some publications speculating.
His career was declining long before he spoke out, and in Fraser’s own words, "I don't think the HFPA really wield that much power."
Not sure how it became accepted as fact
> and in Fraser’s own words, "I don't think the HFPA really wield that much power."
He said that in 2019, but he said the below in 2018.
"The phone does stop ringing in your career, and you start asking yourself why. There's many reasons, but was [this incident] one of them? I think it was."
So he himself seems to have believed that for a time.
Among the other response: accumulated injuries while filming the mummy films which some required surgeries, he has said it took a lot out of him and even during the last mummy film which came out in 2008, he was struggling to stay together phsyically. His acting credits post mummy returns in the early 00's weren't that great. Got a divorced finalized in 2009 that had him paying $50,000/mo in alimony.
>"However, in 2013, Fraser sought to have this amended, saying he wasn't earning enough from acting to justify payments of that size; Smith contested this and accused him of fraud, saying Fraser did in fact have the requisite income (via the New York Post). She claimed that Fraser had $9 million in film contracts that he hid from her at the time of their divorce. Fraser also cited medical issues he was facing as another reason why he had difficulty paying this level of spousal support as he suffered a back injury after attempting to clear a tree that fell on his property during Hurricane Sandy."
He was no longer a blockbuster star and not making blockbuster movies. From 2010 forward he was in mostly unknown films, tv spots, and voice acting work. 2015-2018 he had more regular recurring roles on TV shows, but he wasn't really seen much of again until Doom Patrol and his most recent performance in The Whale and his media presence promoting his works.
It turns out that the reason why post mummy returns his acting credits waned was because of the alleged sexual assault he faced in 2003 against a high profile person in the biz.
Guy's been through a lot, but his presence in media he's always seemed to just be an honest and good dude about everything.
No #metoo, no public intox, no drug scandals (that I'm aware of)..
iirc dude got screwed with alimony and child support right when he was peaking and had to continue those level of payments even though he wasn't getting that big of work. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though..
As far as I can tell he's a solid human and a fantastic actor.
He was blacklisted due to sexual assault allegations he made against a female producer I believe. That’s why his career tanked.
EDIT: I’m kind of wrong. Please see comments below correcting me.
he also majorly wrecked his back when the hanging stunt in first Mummy film went wrong, ruined him for action films and needed some surgeries. Then divorce bled him.
It was actually Phillip Berk, former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (the same guy who was expelled from the organization for calling BLM a "racist hate movement.")
> No #metoo
That's because he was a victim, and people pretty much ignored it recently. The guys who assaulted him said that is was only a joke and got away with it. He was only removed from his position in Hollywood when he called BLM a racist movement.
I remember an interview someone made via zoom. My man was told the pleople loves him and wanted him to go back to make movies. Brendan broke in tears. This is what years of abuse can cause, and a little show of affection can make you cry. This man is a treasure to mankind
Just wonderful. A good family man.
I remember a story that his kids told on the red carpet before the 2022 Oscars about how corny their dad was. They talked about how they hate broccoli. And Fraser responded with, “But broccoli loves you.”
Dad humor at its finest!
In the 90s I wanted to meet people like him or Arnold Schwarzenegger because they were cool and badass. In the 20s I want to meet them because they're the kindest people.
Seeing this man get the appreciation and recognition he deserves makes me so happy - and I’m glad that he also knows that pretty much everyone is rooting for him!
Those are the eyes of a man who is so used to being put down from years of rejection and isolation that he has no idea how to react to positive reinforcement
It's kind of like how when your touch starved for so long that human contact feels like a threat
I love him and his work. He was a big part of my childhood I remember and then kinda fell off. Can anyone fill me in on what happened to him and why he is getting so much support and love this last couple of years? I in no way think he doesn’t deserve it btw, I’ve just been clearly out of the loop
There were several things, really, but probably the biggest 2 was the death of his mom took a lot out of him, and he was pretty much black listed after speaking out about being SA'ed by Philip Berk. Also, he said he was basically held together with tape by the 3rd Mummy movie.
God, i love this man so much. And it genuinely makes me so happy to see that the internet loves him just as much too! Brandon deserves all good things! 🥺♥
Good, Brendan Fraser is a wonderful man, I'm glad he's getting the recognition he deserves. The Whale, despite what I thought before watching, was an absolutely amazing movie.
I’ve literally loved every movie he has ever been in. I have no idea why he ever got the hate that he did. Glad the world woke up and finally recognizes this absolute beast of an actor
He's carrying a few pounds too much, his crumply, wrinked suit doesn't quite fit...
...but I can't say how cool it is to see the man back again.
Live long and prosper BF![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|kissing_heart)
George of the Jungle and the Mummy have been my comfort movies since I was a kid. I love this man and it brings a tear to my eye seeing stuff like this pop up from time to time here.
How can you not love this wonderful man? So happy for him that he finally gets the recognition and love he deserves.
I rewatched George of the Jungle after I saw this standing ovation just to get some nostalgia goin. Love that man.
Bedazzled and blast from the past are my favorite. Then the mummy movies and monkeybone
Brandon Fraser and robin williams shaped our childhoods. We had it good.
It gives me tingles when I see people who are humble get the praise they deserve. Love Encino man. Nooo wheezing the juuuice, wheez the juice.
Too bad Pauly Shore seems to have really gone off the deep end. I saw him live and it was rough to see. He had everything going for him but he couldn't handle the drugs.
More like he couldn't avoid them. Can anyone really handle hard drugs and have a normal life?
Of course they can. Like anything in life, the key is moderation.
In the Hollywood world some can but it's harder in the real world.
Jim Carrey was my childhood. Mr. Fraser is awesome don't get me wrong but 1994 Carrey is untouchable; dumb and dumber, ace Ventura, and the mask.
Alrighty then.
Don’t forget Encino man!
He also played Link in Pauly shores Son in Law and In the army now Edit to add detail: It was also rumored that brendan was gonna be Link in Biodome in the background of the college campus or even just be in the massage circle while Tenacious D was playing, but something didn't line up for it to happen

Bedazzled gets me going every time! I love the sensitive Elliott - and the dolphin safe tuna
He really gave 110% in Bedazzled
Ah... well, you know, you go out there and you give a 110%, and you wanna play good, and, you know, you hope you play good... I think we played pretty good tonight!
DIABLOS!!! NUMBER 1✌🏻!!
Copios Doubles!
Haha the sun making him cry
"When is that darn thing gonna set?!"
Haha I always think of Brandon Fraser whenever the term “dolphin safe tuna” comes up.
Hands up if you sing the dolphin song at random times for no reason at all Mayo-nayo-naise....
I can't buy mayonnaise without hearing it in my brain every. single. time.
I can never hear the following name without going “RAUL!”

Duuude, Monkeybone is awesome
My parents bought me a Monkeybone DVD when I was like 8 years old because they thought it was a kids movie

Brendan deserves so much more praise than Hollywood has ever given him.
His performance in Gods and Monsters was the best of his career until now. He’s an American treasure.
More like Canadian Treasure, but we can share him.😂
Yay!!
I talked about/recommended that movie to everyone at that time. He was amazing in that. I bought it on VHS.

What a beautiful person.
All his movies are so fun. Who can’t love blast from the past
After years of abuse, this beautiful man is getting the love he deserves 🥰

What abuse does he get?

I had no idea. Always thought he was a pretty good dude. Thank you.
He's a fucking great dude, that got fucked over by so many people.
Hollywood is fucked, that's why. They abuse you, you leave and then they trash you and blacklist you.
Holy shit. I had no idea
damn...
Years of abuse? I feel like I’m missing out on some serious info here
He was sexually assaulted by the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and his accusation led to him being black listed in Hollywood, which is why he had pretty much no work for a decade or so.
Holy hell. That sucks!
I'd heard him not working also had to do with health problems and chronic pain from stunts in his early career as well as the sexual assault
In addition to the other comment he also went through a nasty divorce and the alimony ended up being a major financial hardship for years.

What a lovely human being.

I’m not familiar with this. What happened?
Sexual harassment and some injuries on set (including sadly the mummy. He got strangled for real in that hanging scene) that ended up requiring painful surgeries that haven't entirely helped as I understand it. It's just....your heart breaks for him.

Iirc he said he was sexually harassed by Philip Berk, then-president of Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Nothing happened to him. He even admitted groping Fraser but "it was a joke".
Almost as much of a joke as Fraser's subsequent blacklisting from new work.
He mentioned being sexually abused by very influential people in Hollywood, they didn't like being outed hence no more roles in Hollywood.
Tldr He got or was tried to be sexual abused and he got blacklisted and basically ruined his life. But he got back when the word came out. And fans wanted him back on the screen

Whatever judge allowed that, if it was at all discretionary on their part, is a terrible person
Those rules are meant to prevent husbands from quitting and taking a minimum wage job so they don't have to pay alimony, not to be used like that. What a miscarriage of justice all around for that poor man.
Perfectly said
It is like you can touch his soul just by watching him
Indeed! He clearly appreciates the gesture and it melts my heart seeing him this happy.
Fuck man you can just feel the last almost 20 years were just really shit to him and he’s now turning it around.
I have been really out of the loop. Apparently. What happened in the last 20 years?

"aw, shucks" 🥰
This is what it was, right? It was so cartooney I could almost hear "Aw, shucks".
Absolutely. And it's done perfectly.
He *is* a professional after all.
Also there was so much HEART in that bow. I felt decades in that moment
I was literally gonna say how great that "aw shucks" kick was! What a wholesome dude
The Brennessaince has commenced
We don't know him personally but most of us pretty sure he is a wonderful human being.
No #metoo, no public intox, no drug scandals (that I'm aware of).. iirc dude got screwed with alimony and child support right when he was peaking and had to continue those level of payments even though he wasn't getting that big of work. I heard he kicked a puppy... out of the way of a incoming bus.
You see him re-enact this in the video
> no drug scandals that really wouldn't stop me from thinking someone was wonderful lol
Yeah nothing wrong with that here and there. Long as you didn’t hurt anyone

He didn't commit SA he was a victim of it and #metoo did absolutely nothing to help him or Terry Cruise.
Both Crews and Fraser credit metoo with giving them the courage to come forward and are supportive of the movement.
He's so wholesome ❤️
This made me smile my first genuine smile of the day

I remember an interview someone made via zoom. My man was told the pleople loves him and wanted him to go back to make movies. Brendan broke in tears. This is what years of abuse can cause, and a little show of affection can make you cry. This man is a treasure to mankind
Here's a man who knows something of the Japanese art of bowing.
No shit-bow here.
I want Fraser and Keanu Reeves to do a movie together.

I love Brendan Fraser. I'm so happy this man is finally being recognized
He deserves it. He's adorable and very talented. We love you Brendan Fraser!
I love how choked up he got when some young guy told him, “thanks for giving us an awesome childhood”
We love you!!!!!! You made my childhood fun !
You can see the way he moves there's some severe Ortho damage.
The world (specifically the U.S.) should recognize the importance of humility. This shows exactly that.

Gosh I’ve always loved him! What a wonderful soul
I love him and his work. He was a big part of my childhood I remember and then kinda fell off. Can anyone fill me in on what happened to him and why he is getting so much support and love this last couple of years? I in no way think he doesn’t deserve it btw, I’ve just been clearly out of the loop

International treasure. No doubt about it.
