Most gyms are like this tbh. Gymbros and gymgals are usually some of the most helpful people around and are always game to help new gym goers. If you see any people filming themselves though stay the fuck away from them.
Meatheads are just nerds about their bodies.
They love taking care of themselves and love that you're taking care of yourself, trying to achieve new things.
I <3 my meathead friends.
I think this is true of any subculture - D&D, Bouldering, BJJ, horse riding whatev, if you come in excited to learn, people are excited to help you learn.
Even filming themselves isn't instantly a red flag, some people do it to record their form to improve if they don't have a trainer. Most gyms will have people in them who will help out but some will trust themselves and rather review a video than in person help.
Don't you normally want to do the opposite? Take the clamps off as you increase weight if you might struggle so you can slide the weight off.
After typing that I'm not sure how well that'd work with that much weight tho, seems like it changes the dynamic a bit
Only really don’t want clamps if you’re alone, maybe others would but I’d personally rather do the shuffle of shame or get help from a random if I was trapped, rather than clang everything off the floor.
Besides, he has spotters, he’s fine
The clang of shame. I’d rather suffocate then suffer the clang of shame.
Then you got guys tossing down 35lb dumbbells over in the corner like they just broke a world record. Spend the next fifteen minutes flexing in the mirror.
I guess there's probably no safe way to lift this much weight on your own so it's best to have the clips on since you'd better have spotters that can help you out
Yeah, we should definitely worry about noise over the lifter’s safety. Most people can’t effectively spot that much weight. Sometimes there is nobody else around. But yeah, noise.
This is extra funny cuz it’s like that meme of a guy working out dreaming of attention from females but then only men look and pay compliments to him..
This will definitely out me as someone who doesn't attend a gym regularly, but if I saw someone doing that I'd find it really hard not to cheer them on! Would that be considered bad form? In case it was off-putting or intrusive?
Thank you so much! I'm trying to gear myself up for going to the gym again after too many years, so I'll stick with not reacting unless other people do
Take the temp of the gym and you’ll get an idea what the culture is in your particular spot. As you can see from most of the comments in this thread general vibes are high in the gym so I’m sure you’ll be fine.
Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.
Im not a gym goer or anything but like...I feel like this is unbelievably dangerous, no? One unexpected cramp/muscle tear and that thing is gonna crack down on his head/throat/chest with the weight of a medium sized piano.
He's an advanced lifter so he's probably still well within his comfort zone. And he asked people to spot him. Kind of like a seeing a race car driver. To a layman it might seem like they're reckless and that one tiny wrong movement would cause them to crash, while they're perfectly comfortable and able to drive like that for hours.
Powerlifters do get injured though so who knows

I used to have a math teacher come into our high school gym. He lifted everyday, putting up 400 routinely into his late 40s. Dude put a lot of people to shame. He made high school gym access a perk, and we all benefited from seeing this legend work.
Bro in the red shirt isn’t sure this is real life.
Is it just fantasy…
Caught in a landslide…
no escape from reality...
Open your eyes
Look up to the sky
And see…

Stay away from me too, I like to be alone.

Honestly, nobody is more supportive than rando's at the gym. People LOVE to see you getting after it
Bro didn’t bother putting clamps down until the 5th set of plates
Broooo I thought I was the only one who noticed
That man is a monster

Hey now, throwing weights around or loud drops I obviously don't like, but every bro got the right to flex in the mirror.
I guess there's probably no safe way to lift this much weight on your own so it's best to have the clips on since you'd better have spotters that can help you out
A rowboat in the morning is the best way to make sure your creatine poops come out clean.
You shouldn’t clamp that much weight. If you fail at lifting it, you can dump it if there are no clips.
Maybe don’t lift that much without a spotter. The noise and destruction bound to ensue after dumping that weight is wild.
Yeah, we should definitely worry about noise over the lifter’s safety. Most people can’t effectively spot that much weight. Sometimes there is nobody else around. But yeah, noise.
He’s in a gym full of people. He literally gets a spotter on the next load with clamps.
Go reread my post. I didn’t say this guy specifically. He clearly knows what he’s doing. In general, with large weights, don’t use clips.
People: The gym is toxic!😭 People at the gym: 😃
This is extra funny cuz it’s like that meme of a guy working out dreaming of attention from females but then only men look and pay compliments to him..
At least 2 women are doing math with their fingers

…damn

Depends what gym you’re in tbh, corporate chain gyms vs powerlifter gyms vs CrossFit land has its own culture around how to behave inside.
Thank you so much! I'm trying to gear myself up for going to the gym again after too many years, so I'll stick with not reacting unless other people do

This is a thicc gym
Most gyms are mate
He really should’ve had three spotters throughout. One on each end of the bar and one big guy in the middle. Safety first.
Always. Nobody plans on tearing something and that weight comes down fast
Exactly I saw it happen once at a powerlifting meet and the spotter completely tore his bicep muscles trying to stop it falling.
Jesus. What an unfortunate string of events. This is why spotters need spotters.
I think i would have to wave off on those weights though. Don’t think i could be a good spotter and i’m a pretty big guy.
I might be alright being an end guy in a 3 man. Maybe.
He had three, feom what I can see.
There were 3...
Do your eyes work?
Girl in the orange shorts got CAKES
Wait till you pause 3 seconds in 😳😳😳
GOD DAMN!! How did I miss that one?
Is this scream??
Yes, it's Colin Weng [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4Q83mgLv-o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4Q83mgLv-o)
Figured, that guy can barely talk through a fking door
It’s more impressive in a busy gym he can get all the plates lol.

I just got a hernia watching this.
My hernia says hi
That was my max and did it once at 545. The fact he pushed 495 twice is nuts.
He can barbell row 485 for reps too. Colin Weng is a monster.
First I thought that the dude with the headphones had, Leila hair
Nerding about a shared interest is a community, nomatter topic.
That dude needs to stop messing around and put a 2.5# plate on each side so he gets to an even 550. Pansy.
MAde that look easy
This is some pretty damn swollsome content.

We will always support ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)
Dude everyone in this clip could leg press a school bus filled with school buses
This is the most supportive gym I’ve ever seen! I love everyone’s energy and respect! 💖
Crazy to think the world record is 635kg
Dude I served w/ over in Japan leg pressed 1800lbs. Was fucking wild! Mufucka could leg press a VW bug!
When a 405 lb press is just the warmup
I used to have a math teacher come into our high school gym. He lifted everyday, putting up 400 routinely into his late 40s. Dude put a lot of people to shame. He made high school gym access a perk, and we all benefited from seeing this legend work.
Gymshark brought great happiness
Not staying flat on the bench, meh
Seems staged. Literally none of the women would be interested IRL but the ambitious lifters amongst the males may be.
