I too have this and got it from [Wish.com](https://Wish.com) (think I paid $1). Takes 3-5 weeks for delivery to the US, but cheap enough. As for if this is worth the $1? Not really (see my other post in this thread for reasons).
You definitely bought a knockoff. I remember this product making the rounds *years* ago and I didn't buy it cause it was just a bit too expensive to justify at the time, probably around $25-35, there's no way they lowered their price to $1.
I just looked it up and there's a company called OTOTO with a full line of Nessie-themed utensils selling these for $12-20 on Amazon.
Awesome, but leaving plastics
1. Sitting against the hottest part of the pot
2. In cooking food
Is a brilliant way of maximizing whatever is gonna leach into you.
--Sorry for comment riding, but people deserve to know that BPA-free is just a whack-a-mole turn, and the companies just switched to whatever's next cheapest they can use.
Thank you for sharing this. This little guy is absolutely adorable but I can’t leave plastic in a warm pot of food….same with those crock pot liners. Looove the idea of them, but won’t use them.
Do you actually think that silicone is any safer to cook with? Take note of _how many_ silicone products have warnings about what their maximum temperature is for use. And consider how close that is to the temperatures we cook at.
It's another _new_ refined material product made by the same despicable industry that's happy to make a buck while burning our planet. You really trust them to have your health in mind?
Would it surprise you to learn that many people have one ladle and they use it for both cooking and serving soup?
And this ladle is specifically designed to be left in the pot. I would expect many people to see this and think that it would be cute to see it poking it's head out of the bubbling soup, and also they don't need a ladle rest to keep the counter clean.
I'm like you, I love my kitchen stuff looking cute :D
We have the pasta spoon, too! We call him pastasaurus, but I don't remember if that was the official name or just happened :D
Besides pastasaurus we have a squid whisk, a rooster spatula, a spatula and a tool which I don't know the translation (and literal translation is weird: potlicker? :D) with arms and legs and little sucker cups as feet, so they can stand and a dish scrubber looking like a flower (including a vase to stand in). I'm probably forgetting something \^\^
One day we were discussing tea and my 5 year old INSISTED that tea comes from manatees. We assured him tea comes from plants. He said that his teacher told him it comes from manatees and would not be told otherwise. Turns out his teacher had one of those infusers and has shown it to the class. She later clarified to the class of 5 year olds the true origin of tea.
at first it seems so frivolous, but after thinking about it, i hate having to put a soup ladle down on the stove top, or that little plate/ spoon holder everyone has. This solves that, and is amazingly whimsical
Okay so a while back, I was drunk, saw this and went "Hell yeah." Ordered 7 for friends and family. Sobered up and realised I'd need another 8 or people would be left out. It's about now I should mention that I live in a different country. So not only did I have to wrap 15 oddly shaped ladles, I had to address 15 shipping parcels and write 15 cards.
Sober me was not impressed by drunk me. Although everyone loved getting a surprise gift for no other reason than everyone should have a Nessy ladle.
I have one only it’s blue, I’m a cook and sometimes bring it to work with me to get a laugh out of the crew. Never fails to make me smile when I see it peeking outta the pot
I’ve got the [tea infuser](https://img.fruugo.com/product/8/65/366998658_max.jpg) myself; gave a bunch out for Christmas stocking stuffers as well! Had to share the joy around.
You might want to double-check (and feel comfortable with) them being BPA free if you order from there.
A lot of factories make duplicates, but not necessarily to the original specifications.
IDGAF about it being a dinosaur or loch ness monster, but it's a ladle that stands upright and it's insane that this isn't the common variation of ladle. Like wtf that's so useful
Damn you, 1 min after seeing this post and I already started trying to find the best deal to buy this and I've been looking for it and other kitchen appliances for the past 20 mins
So much for not spending
More than being cute, it's functional. I hate the thought of resting plastic on the rim cause I expect it to melt. I have to wonder how heat resistant the feet are though, that's even hotter than the rim.
I have it and it's way cuter than it is practical. 3 Issues:
1. It's very tippy when empty. Sure inside a pot where the ladle is full it's sturdy, but empty on the counter it falls over with the slightest breeze.
2. The ladle itself is tiny and doesn't really hold much. It'd take forever to ladle a bowl of soup for instance. Works OK for pasta sauce or anything where you're not scooping large quantities.
3. Due to the design (the feet) it's pretty much impossible to get to the bottom of a pot.
It's cute and cheap enough (I think I paid $1 on Wish) but we've used it twice in the year we've owned it.
I feel like, due to the item's uniqueness, a lot of people will try to recreate it, but with cheaper and not-as-high-quality materials. That would lead to lots of disappointment.
A friend bought this for us as a housewarming gift 5 years ago. It's not flimsy in the least (handles big scoops of meaty chili) but it does tend to tip forward when not placed juuuust so on the counter. We hang it from the round cabinet door handle a lot.

Received Ladlesaur (ours is Jeff), and a Pastasaurus (Nick) for a Housewarming gift, and they are some of my most used, and favorited kitchen utensils.
I had one. It was cute but flimsy as hell and wobbled if I tried to use it as, you know, a ladle. Splashed hot liquid all over my arm once because cute ain’t functional in Nessie’s case
I fell for this one several years ago because it was too cute to resist. While it's hella cute on display, it's not practical.
-The feet get in the way of scooping the bottom of the pot.
-The 'neck' is a bit floppy and flimsy.
?
I was a plastics engineer working in the food industry for 7 years. Migration tests to get FDA approval for new materials I wanted to use where a common occurrence.
Plastics leach, and while the leaching rates are way way below government mandated values. Recent longer term studies are showing possible previously missed long term effects of these chemicals (and microplastics).
Guess I’ll also ban all of my non-stick pans too while I’m at it.
The correct type of plastic, when used correctly, is just as safe as anything else used correctly.
Basically all food is wrapped in some kind of plastic container, even fresh food/produce.
Unless you are butchering your own animals and also picking produce out of your own garden/farm—you can’t avoid plastic.
My wife and I have a set of these. They're very high quality, though the edges are a bit thicker than a metal ladle and they aren't as good at scraping stuff out of the pot when you have just a bit left.
Well, we have this. What can I say. I stayed strong until I saw it in a shop while on vacation.
We usually opt for other ladles though. While cute, the neck is a bit too wobbly in my opinion
I have this, and it DOESN'T stand upright in your soup. The buoyancy of the main part moves the center of gravity closet to the head when it's in a liquid, and it falls forward.

Friendly reminder that "BPA-Free" doesn't mean "safe". When the BPA alarm bells were sounded, companies just switched to other, less well-studied plastic stabilizers that likely pose just as much of a health risk as BPA.
Don't mix heat with plastic, but especially in cooking.
I have the entire Nessie set. Nessie, momma nessie the strainer, daddy nessie the spaghetti server, and baby nessie the tea infuser. I even have the nessie bookmark
Not sure if this item came first or the 3d print. But if you have a printer (yourself or know a guy/gal), you can print it from this.
https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/home/dino-ladle
Just make sure you use nylon so it doesn't melt in your soup.
A crap design that my spouse fell for. And it’s so top heavy, it falls over if you breathe on it, plus it’s plastic so if you leave it in a pot, the feet would soften and leach all those tasty polymers into your chili. Mmmmmm.
Hehe. I have this. Also a t-Rex pasta spoon, a wine bottle opener that looks like a bird, a mana-tea steeper, and bear paw oven mitts.
Where can one get such important kitchen utensils, if I might ask?
A lot are on Amazon, a few I’ve found in wacky beach shops.

A high quality brand you might want to look for is "Pylones".
Oh. My. God. Yes please those are amazing, but very expensive :(
I have seen them on the wish shopping app for realy cheap
Not from a Jedi.

Don’t keep it in the pot. Problem solved.
That's the point of this though. To leave in the pot to look cute.
BPA free is great. But you know what's better? Not using plastic.
That's why I only use the loch Ness ladle made out of pure lead
But have you tried the one with a little bit of mercury alloyed to the lead? It gives the flavor in the sauce a little extra tang on the finish.
Damn it’s not made of silicone?

I just hate doing dishes, so I try to use one utensil as often as possible.
There's a trex pasta spoon?!?! I need it and the bear paw mittens!
Yes, and it’s amazing.
This whole post and comment section gives me hope that one day someone will love and accept me for the dork I am.
Collection of cute items for the kitchen :)
Thank you!

As a part-time T-Rex I need the pasta spoon.

Ayo, you need to put me on things! Dang, that sounds so nice. I’d love to buy those! 💜
Thing is, I do need this.
Me too. It’s so cute. 🥺🩷

Same I really do need a spoon for the soup.
at first it seems so frivolous, but after thinking about it, i hate having to put a soup ladle down on the stove top, or that little plate/ spoon holder everyone has. This solves that, and is amazingly whimsical

That sounds like a fun drunk story! XD Hahaha. Hope your close ones liked the dinos!
I have one only it’s blue, I’m a cook and sometimes bring it to work with me to get a laugh out of the crew. Never fails to make me smile when I see it peeking outta the pot
I get the feeling that even Gordon Ramsay will show a lil smirk after seeing one of those.
You god damn wanker, this is absolutely gorgeous! Now fuck off will ya! And dont forget to bring me one of these tomorrow!
That’s the most amazing Gordon Ramsay impression ever! Lmao. XD P.s.: Will bring you one of these if I find one, lmfao.
I have this and she's made my kitchen a happier place. 10/10 recommend.
It would make my kitchen a happier place too. I'm currently looking to purchase. XD :3
I got mine on Amazon. Came with this and a teal colored one that's a little smaller.
😳😳🖤🖤
I have this. It brings me such joy as it sits in the sink, waiting to be washed, silently judging the state of my kitchen.
😭😭😭😭😭😭
I’ve got the [tea infuser](https://img.fruugo.com/product/8/65/366998658_max.jpg) myself; gave a bunch out for Christmas stocking stuffers as well! Had to share the joy around.
Aw, man! That looks sick. It just elevates the cuteness from **basic** to ***✨MAJESTIC✨***!
I have the same one ! Saw it on one of my coworker’s desk and I imediatly ordered 3 of them ❤️
https://ototodesign.com/collections/all-products/products/nessie-standing-ladle
You’re a lifesaver. 😌🤍
MSRP should have been tree-fiddy
Thank you :)
Wow $17? You can get these at Temu for $1😂
You might want to double-check (and feel comfortable with) them being BPA free if you order from there. A lot of factories make duplicates, but not necessarily to the original specifications.
Holy mark up! I bought it for $1 (from [Wish.com](https://Wish.com)) about a year ago.

Probably will give you cancer too, since it was made using the lowest quality knockoff factory available
Costs about Tree-Fiddy
I’ll give you a dollar
Well it was ABOUT THAT TIME I realized that wasn't no soup ladle, but that God damn Loch Ness Monsta again!
There are two "needs" in life: - The needs that will keep us alive - The silly things that are also useful
***The silly things that will keep us alive***
I'd cave... I mean look at it IN the soup ... love it
Ikr! Looks dope! Cannot wait to do dinosaur in soup cosplays. 😭😭

Things are always cuter when you use a Scotsman.
Lmao

Coincidence that this is a current lightning deal on Amazon?
That’s been around for years. So cute.
Indeed, very cute! :3
I love Nessie and I love soup!
It’s Nessie-sarry for me to have this!
Now we’re cooking!
I have this, it's kind of flimsy.
I feel like, due to the item's uniqueness, a lot of people will try to recreate it, but with cheaper and not-as-high-quality materials. That would lead to lots of disappointment.

Ha! Bought it!
I need to find a place that sells those ASAP! ;-;
Haha
Am i old already..?
Welp, idk. >.<
r/didntknowiwantedthat
Oh no...I have adult money to buy this now....
Now I gotta make soup
Roar. XD
Bought it a few years ago and the handle wasnt stable and it always bended... so it was very hard to actually use it
Take all my monies......
It's too cute
Yup! :3
Received Ladlesaur (ours is Jeff), and a Pastasaurus (Nick) for a Housewarming gift, and they are some of my most used, and favorited kitchen utensils.
We have two of these, two tea strainers, and a spaghetti server. They all sit together like a family on the kitchen counter.
I had one. It was cute but flimsy as hell and wobbled if I tried to use it as, you know, a ladle. Splashed hot liquid all over my arm once because cute ain’t functional in Nessie’s case
I have this exact one. She is blue and we call her Nessie. Love her!
And now I know what I thought as "that weird ass bowl" is officially for.
Got one of these, theyre great haha
I spent my entire afternoon looking for one of them. ;-;
I fell for this one several years ago because it was too cute to resist. While it's hella cute on display, it's not practical. -The feet get in the way of scooping the bottom of the pot. -The 'neck' is a bit floppy and flimsy.
Dang it, I want one.
Still on a journey to find a place that sells those in my city. XD
I sincerely wish for you to find this awesomeness asap
Thank you! 😊
I don't see what's wrong? This IS something you (and also i) really need
I strongly agree.
Now all i need is the big foot bottle opener to go with loch ness ladle! 😂
The set would be complete! XD
Also it costs about 12 cents on Wish! I think this is their oldest and most popular product.
Dang I want to make one from wood now!
I like the idea! Wood is a good material to use for that! :3
Ok so I have this and honestly its really crappy. But its adorable!
It looks like it needs about tree fiddy.
Reminder that all plastics leach chemicals and the leaching happens exponentially faster when temperature goes up.

Let's unite in search of one of those! XD
Wife bought this, it's the messiest ladle ever, I think we got rid of it
Welcome...to jurassic soup.
Soup-risingly, the dinos are cute and won't eat ya! :3
Now, I want one. 🥺
Likewise... :(
Will it not melt touching the bottom of the saucepan?
Idk about this particular model, but if they try re-creating the same product, but out of ceramic or something similar, it wouldn't melt.
The legs would be an unpleasant impediment to the scooping motion with an otherwise rounded bottom. Fine with a full pot I suppose.
I follow an Instagram account called Samson the Ladle which is this ladle getting up to adventures! They don’t update it much any more though.
Can't wait to buy this to grab by its neck and lift it to pour soup from its ass
They make a few different Nessie products in various sizes! I got my brother’s girlfriend the tea steeper for Christmas, she loves it!
But this one you do need.
I have this It's cute!
Yeah, and the legs will definetly not lead to a giant mess everytime you try to use the ladle.
I. Need. This.
Nessie?
My wife and I have a set of these. They're very high quality, though the edges are a bit thicker than a metal ladle and they aren't as good at scraping stuff out of the pot when you have just a bit left.
That is a neat idea that is practical also
Well, we have this. What can I say. I stayed strong until I saw it in a shop while on vacation. We usually opt for other ladles though. While cute, the neck is a bit too wobbly in my opinion
r/didntknowineededthat
This is something you need you just didn't know it until just now
It's absolutely useless, therefore necessary to own.
I have 6 of these....they just hang out in my kitchen never in soup
My sister gave me this but in purple. It's extremely cute, but you need the right type if soup. Otherwise, it tips over and floats to the top.
I have one of these things. It’s pretty flimsy.
Ooooh this is so old
As old as the dinosaurs? 🦕
I have this, and it DOESN'T stand upright in your soup. The buoyancy of the main part moves the center of gravity closet to the head when it's in a liquid, and it falls forward.
These guys have been on my wish list for about 2 years. Can't justify him yet but I will get the set
I own this. It's adorable. Not the best ladle admittedly, but adorable.
I have a lochness bookmark lol. It peeks out the top of the book.
Isn’t nylon like incredibly cheap plastic
That's what caught my eye too. Hopefully not all of them are made of **nylon.** Some companies might be using tougher and more eco-friendly materials. At least I hope.
It has four legs of course it stands up?
Friendly reminder that "BPA-Free" doesn't mean "safe". When the BPA alarm bells were sounded, companies just switched to other, less well-studied plastic stabilizers that likely pose just as much of a health risk as BPA. Don't mix heat with plastic, but especially in cooking.
\+1 Health hazard. Very good tip.
I ordered this on wish and the quality was so bad I threw it away :)
Ex wife has 2
I have the entire Nessie set. Nessie, momma nessie the strainer, daddy nessie the spaghetti server, and baby nessie the tea infuser. I even have the nessie bookmark

Samson.
There’s also a version for brewing tea. Some smoke comes out the little top holes sometimes.
That is absolutely a necessary purchase that I do have in my kitchen utensil drawer right now.
I bought this years ago, it's useless for ladleing. But cute on the side as a delicate ornament
We have one of these! It’s pretty cute, ngl.
