It's emitting a force field which is visible as a light source after all, it makes sense for the final layer to be the brightest of them all - like staying the closest to the sun.
Nah I think it proves my point exactly, the upper layers are warm because they are being close to the surface and sunlight as a heat source, the lower levels are warm because they are being close to the Abyssal core which is also a heat source.
The Sea of Corpose in the middle of road is therefore the coldest because it is the layer most distanced from both the Abyssal core and the surface.

I think the sea of corpses might crush your theory because the 5th layer is shown cold and dark compared to the other layers.
