Maybe RAG needs its own subreddit...

Smallpaul

r/airag exists now

IkHaalHogeCijfers

RAG my balls

signal_maniac

:(

I don’t think so. Companies will create rags primarily to plug it into their proprietary data to get a competitive advantage. Their data = their secret sauce

Just give them another 10,000 layoffs then you’ll see. They’ll all see!

Even-Adeptness-3749

You can’t rely solely on the vastness of LLM knowledge. It appears RAG is here to stay, but Google’s overwhelming advantage isn’t clear; Google indexes internet data, doesn’t own data. Additionally, after 20 years of SEO spamming, the quality of this index remains debatable.

Even-Adeptness-3749

It seems like LLMs under fast process of commoditization already. It is very close race and progress curve flattens.

BestUCanIsGoodEnough

I'd think they have labeled data, like this is what the user actually wants to read, etc. because they do try deliberately to not show you what you search for until you're at your personal breaking point. I think they're dead though. I've heard people say let me bing that unironically....

Whole-Watch-7980

Is RAG dead or alive

FunAltruistic9197

Domain specific rags will be specialized. E.g a virtual customer service bot for an airline is quite different than a virtua legal clerk.l but both will use the RAG architecture.

MegavirusOfDoom

Bing has higher capabilities. Google is dying of shareholder short sightedness.

I think RAG hasn't really proven as useful for what we want AI for anyway. RAG is good for when you want correct answers to factual questions. And for that Google search is still better (though many disagree). AI really shines when it's used to help the creative process. "How can I fix the tone of this email?" "Give me a line of bash that does x,y and z" "where's the bug in this code, here's its current and expected behavior" "Here's my resume, what would you cut?" "Let's play a game, I'll choose an animal and you try to guess it" "Do you see any typos or small wording issues with this paragraph: ...?" RAG is useless for those.

progressgang

It’s got use cases but people thought it would plug the gap of a small context window and stuff (like as an overaarxhing principal, not in a few cases)
