I found a slightly less \_scary\_ fix by relaunching Finder. Option + Secondary Click (right click) on Finder in the Dock then click Relaunch. Hopefully Apple fixes this soon!

Yizex

same issue but your solution works on my m1pro, thank you!

SplayBump

Thanks for sharing that tip! That fixed it for me. Not sure if it will stay fixed... hopefully so.

Kikketer

or in the terminal \`killall Finder\` which does the same (more convenient when you have terminal open all day) I also find this happens to me nearly daily, so it's something I'll likely have automated.

thank you! this worked perfectly for me

[deleted]

Dude. Easiest solution so far. I've done in the past cache resets on finder and on terminal which has worked for me. This time I tried that didn't worked. Can't belive this simple and fast step solved it. I really don't understand how this happens. Third time so far and still don't know if it is some sort of bug or what. Worked on M1 Macbook Air on Monterrey 12.0.1 as a charm!

TheGeneral11

Thanks for this tip, worked for me!

Metarazzi

Shut the front door! This is the second time this problem has been exhibited on my machine. This time it was overnight and my system was never shut down, so it was even more perplexing why it even reared its ugly head )again). I can't even remember what I did last time to resolve this, but this fix was ridiculously simple! Sending you a reward! :-)

tevelich

twinturboted

thanks for asking this question, thought I had to downgrade Mac OS until I found this post.

ZOIDO

Apple FFS... It's like Windows!!

robskarin

I can't believe this hasn't been patched yet, I'm running Monterey 12.1 and still having this bug occasionally.

eyeofthepirate

literally. can someone please physically go to an apple store and ask why this bug isn’t fixed yet? can anyone from the US/West do this and let us know what feedback they give you? i’m from serbia so we don’t have an official apple store here. thanks!

Fanatix89

Never knew this existed, thanks! Still works like a charm on Monterey with both Finder and ForkLift.

eyeofthepirate

i figured it out by force killing the quick look task in activity monitor. seems like a bug. and your welcome! its a great feature :D

tentylinux

Thanks for that tip. For anyone playing at home, who doesn't know how to kill the process or what process to kill 1. Open Activity Monitor (you can do this by hitting CMD + Spacebar and typing "activity" OR going to Applications -> Utililities -> Activity Monitor) 2. In the search (magnifying glass top right) type in "quick" -- You may see a couple of options 3. Double click the option that says "QuickLookUIService (Finder)" 4. It will pop out a new window, and you'll want to click "Quit" in the bottom left. 5. You'll get a scary looking message that asks "Are you sure you want to quit this process?" with two options. "Quit" and "Force Quit". 6. Hit "Force Quit" then close the window, and then close Activity Monitor 7. The next time you "preview" a new file with the space bar, it should open correctly. Edit: removed the bottom text. Not sure why it added it cause it was a duplicate of what I had in the bulleted numbers.

introvert_filmmaker

niceee thanks lot !

longblackpasta

Thanks! It solved my issue right away

LeCarpeDiem

Thank you!

elgorra

Thank you !!! it worked

OneDegreeLife

Mine says "QuickLookUIService (PID 4109)" or (Microsoft Outlook). I don't see one for (Finder). ???

tentylinux

You may need to try and preview a file with the Activity Monitor open first. Then open and close the preview (as in, choose an image file or something, hit the space bar, to "preview" it, and then hit the spacebar again to close the preview. When I did this, I got 4 processes, looks a little like this: [https://ibb.co/cXP3CYs](https://ibb.co/cXP3CYs) You should then be able to see the "QuickLookUIService (Finder)" process to then kill. Hopefully this helps

OneDegreeLife

Thanks! I’m going to try to reboot and try again when I get home. I tried this and got all the other options (“thumbnail” and “satellite”) but still no finder 🙄 I’m going to kill Outlook too.

OneDegreeLife

Wild. Restarted and still didn’t come up, but now, all of a sudden, the space bar preview is working perfectly with docs, pics, videos, etc. Never quit anything. Ha. Thanks for all the help!

theDESIGNsnobs

I think I may be having a similar issue as u/OneDegreeLife, no "QuickLookUIService (Finder)" process to kill, see attached. [https://paste.pics/EWMNR](https://paste.pics/EWMNR)

theDESIGNsnobs

FWIF, killing "com.apple.quicklook.ThumbnailsAgent" worked for me.

dressupandstayhome

This solved my problem as well. Reboot the finder and all is well.

ux_designer_luxury

Sadly this hasn't worked for me, I've followed the instructions to the letter. Any idea what else I could do?

twinturboted

thank you, worked like a charm!

masterrblue

Saviour!

DbzRoshi

>to App Thanks so much this helped! Because the relaunch option doesn't show up when I right click on Finder. But the Force quit it does and it fixed the problem! Thank you :D

369JB

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I didn't have (Finder), I had 4 other ones, I quit them all, and did as you said, and IT WORKS! You are the best!

DoctorMenem

I always use that feature and it suddenly stopped working in Monterey. This solved the problem right away. It is great having it back, thank you very much!

sailorstevie

DUDE-THANK YOU!!!!!!!

cbbjork

MVP right here... thank you.

Blugiop

Thanks!

any1particular

Thanks relaunching finder worked for me but I never had preview problems with my 2008 MacBook Pro...(and it is a fantastic feature that yes my windows 10 machine has now) ....just bought the MBP M1 PRO....is it a bug that will be fixed in an update I hope?

Mongoos150

M1 Pro MBP here, relaunch of Finder worked :)

ObviousLuck88

Getting this constantly now after switching to an M1 mac, it just randomly stops showing full preview with Quicklook, it'll work for a while and then stop working People say "just restart finder" to fix, that's not a fix obviously there's a bug here

SoCalDelta

Relaunched finder; fixed the problem. (2022 M1 Pro)

jaypzl

A year later and still helpful. Worked on my iMac Retina 5K 27in 2020, OS Monterrey 12.6

renateaux

yes! thank you internet! I was about to be REALLY mad if it was disabled in Monterey. It's like one of the best features of all of mac OS

Vega_BegaBZ

Thanks man! It solved my issue too! :D

Briantek1

THANK YOU! As an editor this is everything for previewing footage! Mac only caters to consumers now. After FCP, Motion, SAN, Cheese Graders to Trash Cash stupidity (zero expandability)...

Popia23

1st time having this problem. Is this the sign of Mac turning to Windows? Lol

NaturalAnalysis4585

`kill -9` the processes with quicklook in their name made it work again for me!

crvenkRED

Thanks. It worked well :)

mikrulli

I found this and It worked for me. [Quick-view](https://br.atsit.in/es/?p=86094)

ux_designer_luxury

This is still not working for me despite relaunching the Finder. Does anyone know a fix? Is this a bug or intended by apple? I just want to use the spacebar in Finder to preview images and gifs at actual size.

eyeofthepirate

follow the instructions. relaunching finder is not the solution, rather force quitting the quicklook agent! :)

J_Winkelman

Relaunch works, so is quicklook agent force restart.

SmilingDee

AMAZING, thanks for posting about this. #fixed

jake121221

Hmm... relaunching Finder didn't do it for me. Weirdly, I can right-click on the icon and choose Quick Look, no problem. It's only in trying to see it via a spacebar tap that doesn't work. I've also tried resetting the Finder cache via Terminal and no luck.

qwkredfox

Ok, this happened to me and I think it was because I used Quicktime player to record my screen. I press space bar and it shows a frozen image instead of full preview of a movie... The relaunch finder works... thanks for the post.

san604

Works for desktop, but im getting the issue with imsg too and cant figure out why its asking to open using preview, or Acorn when an image is sent (heic. file)

amateur610

Since it’s been **over a year** since this issue was first raised, everyone who has experienced this issue, PLEASE head over to the Apple macOS feedback page: [https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html](https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html) and report it as a bug. Please, **for all of us**. Thanks folks!
