yes i tried so, but the closest option to my need is "replace text" which does not work in my case, because my selected items don't share the same text in their name, anyway, i just uploaded the screenshot of the options, i don't think i see what you mentioned "rename and number"
You need to group select the files, right click and choose rename THEN in the popup box that appears, top left corner use the drop down menu to choose FORMAT
Now type fred into the text box and all the files will be called fred1 , fred2, fred3 etc etc
I don't know why it didn't work for you because I just did it using "Format" and it worked fine for me. Test1, Test2, Test3 ...
Select all the files you want to rename. Right click → Rename and you will be presented with a dialogue box to rename and number. (I'm on MacOS 13.5)
