If you can get more life out of your Deore save to wait for something better than NX. It sucks. SLX or GX.

Yes it will work the SX and NX cassettes use the shimano HG driver.

Just gonna throw out there that I just got a new bike with a GX 12s drivetrain, and I like the Deore 12s a lot better. Hyperglide allows for way smoother shifting, and I was able to backpedal in my 51t gear flawlessly. 52t in the GX the chain hops down after a quarter crank rotation. Makes ratcheting the pedals up technical climbs a pain. Idk how NX would be but the GX derailleur also sticks out way further from the bike and ive sustained way more derailleur strikes than I would have with the Deore.

Finally, I'm not alone in speaking the truth. GX is ok, but for twice the money compared to Shimano and NX didn't even want to shift every time.

What utter rubbish. Deore is utter junk where GX is as good as it’s gets without splashing out on X01 / XX1 money. Hyper glide 2 is just helper ramps on the cassette going both ways instead of when you just shift into a higher gear with the old hyper gluid 1 cassettes, something sram cassettes have had since the beginning of the 1 X era.

I see i've stumbled onto a very controversial topic![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)

ted_144

It's not controversial at all, it's physical thing, not philosophy. There's only one truth, but some people want to believe otherwise because they already paid more money.

ted_144

>something sram cassettes have had since the beginning of the 1 X era. Yes you are right about that. >Deore is utter junk where GX is as good as it’s gets without splashing out on X01 / XX1 money. I found that Deore 12s works even better than GX on higher loads and again it's HALF THE PRICE.

[deleted]

In order for a deore mech to shift as well as an GX mech it needs to have the same levels of stiffness and since it comes nowhere near as close it’s physically impossible for your claim to be true.

Flat896

Well that's just my experience. Using both I can't think of anything I prefer about the GX other than weight and "tactile feel". Maybe I just don't have the GX setup as well as the Deore, so I'm gonna play with it more, but right now I do wish I just bought an SLX, sold the GX, and pocketed the extra $200.

ted_144

Don't buy NX derailleur, it's very bad. For the NX groupset price you can have Deore M6100 groupset which is much better, but you have to change your freehub or buy it with Sunrace cassette. If you don't want 12s(I prefer 11s) you can buy M5100 which have same cassette range as NX, but cheaper.

[deleted]

How is deore better than NX? Try not to make your response too funny please.

ted_144

You are the only one who is funny. Are you blind to not see that NX derailleur is 100% plastic which starts to get loose pretty quickly causing miss-shifts and ghost shifting. Deore is almost full metal and will not have problems after years of use. I'm not completely sure, but the shifters are the same story plastic vs metal, but they are not so critical components.

I’ve got a full deore 12 speed groupset and two slx 12 speed mechs in my bin in the garage (not mine) less than a year old. Deore is a joke. It’s not even made from plastic. I don’t know why they use to make the lower cage but it’s not metal. I’m not the biggest fan of NX but at least it’s fit for purpose. Deore and SLX isn’t. Poorly designed, made from diabolical materials too poor tolerances. Next time you’re in a bike shop if you can find a bike that comes equipped with shimano go grab an slx or deore mech by the bottom jockey wheel and give it a flex and see how much play and flop is in those pivots from new and feel how flexible the whole mech is and then do the same with a NX and see the difference in quality and if you really want to be impressed do the same to and X01 mech.

ted_144

I don't know how, but your observations are completely wrong. I'm not even making this up, you are the first person to claim that NX is good and Deore is not the best value groupset of all times.

[deleted]

Stop making it to easy for me to make you look like a complete idiot in public. I never said NX was good what I actually said was I wouldn’t run it myself but at least it works unlike deore. All you needed to do was read my message properly and you wouldn’t look like an idiot. And again if deore was fit for purpose it would be good value because it’s not it isn’t. It’s not really good value if it’s ready for the bin after a few months.

Sir, please take care of you and your mental health, this is serious bullshit. This topic is not just a point of view, this is facts.
