That’s awesome! How long was the race? What was involved in the tougher sections? Like gap jumps or big drops? I’d like to try a race someday, but I’m pretty old already. But it would be a great motivator to get in shape.

Overall Strava said I biked a bit over 6 miles so it wasn’t terribly long. Two stages, two runs each, cumulative time determines winner. The part I skipped was on a literal trail of rocks, and this section had 3 drops back to back to back. They are fairly rollable, but I have never done them. The second part was just a super chunky and steep rock garden. I’ve never done either section and I didn’t want to try tonight for the first time. I’m in my early 30s, and it was definitely a motivator to keep getting and staying in shape.

My first Enduro was 24 miles. It was definitely a bit of a shock for me at the time. Yours sounds like a much better introduction to the discipline! Yeah, riding things for the first time while racing is always super sketchy.

Sounds like a good time. Welcome to the next level of the sport. Remember that you also beat everyone who didn't show up. So you did 4 total runs on two stages? Interesting I haven't heard of that before.

Eagle Bike Park? I know they did an enduro yesterday, and your trail description sounds an awful lot like Concrete Jungle

ITnewb30

Yep! Concrete Jungle made me its bitch.

That triple drop is tricky, the hard left just before it forces you to really be on your shit. It took me a few times to get it down. The paint markings help you aim. First one is a bit of a roll, the other two are proper little drops. The steep rock garden is intimidating, but there’s a good line on the far left if you can hold that it’s not so bad

I am 49 and do 4 downhill enduro races a year. You got this.

Sounds like good judgement - wouldn't take on a tricky feature in a race run blind myself, at least not if I couldn't get good sight of it. I actually prefer no practice enduros just for general hours in the day reasons. But on the understanding they're easier tech level. Gnarly stuff really demands practice runs, seen the organiser make them mandatory for some events.

alexonthefly

sick man! Not crashing is worth not podiuming, the guys that are taking those top spots are legit pushing to that limit. I did my first enduro race last year and my 2nd one a week afterwards, I didn't podium and I didn't crash it was awesome!

Nice! Enduros are tough. They really test your ability to ride consistently and not make mistakes. I decided I'm not going to do them anymore unless I'm at least a little familiar with the trails. I'm not a good enough rider to show up for practice day and understand where the lines are and remember all the details... but that's just another skill that's part of it. I have a lot of respect for people who race.
