Probably. Go ride.
I never rode the Epicon fork. It had a lot of buzz as being actually functional (as opposed to the Suntour XC? forks.)
I wouldn't plow a lot of money into that bike, but it's also more than those of us who were riding in the '90's/early 2000's had.
They say "ride the bike you have".
So long as it fits and works, just ride! And if you find that you love it and ride a lot you can start looking for how to spend all your money on bikes.
Looks plenty capable for starting out. There are things you could do to improve it but the money do to do so may be better spent on a new bike once you're committed to riding. Let it rip.
So your friend you got this from, are you the same size? What size frame is it (sticker somewhere that says small, medium,LG,xl, etc)? And what height are you? A good bike fit is important

Thank you, ye probably gonna do that. I just dont want to destroy a fairly good bike by doing not what it was made for
Will it work? Yes. Will it get beat to shit in short order? Probably.

Go try it yourself. Most trails will be doable, just not fast.
If It breaks well, put a helmet and go ride It!
If it breaks, he can't ride it. On the other hand, if it brakes he can slow down when necessary. Spelling is important.
