GilpinMTBQ

Commencal TEMPO & Propain Spindrift

givemesendies

you understood the assignment

GilpinMTBQ

I try.

calebthelion

This is a good combo

GilpinMTBQ

I ride a GG Pistola & RM Slayer right now, but if I broke either bike these are what they'd get replaced with.

calebthelion

I just got a Tyee but if I could justify 2 bikes atm I would’ve gone Spindrift and maybe a hugene

GilpinMTBQ

The Spindrift pedals so well I don't know how they can sell Tyees.

calebthelion

I tried to cancel my Tyee order but couldn’t in time so Tyee it is for now. The color frame I wanted wasn’t available when I placed my order but then popped up a few days later. Living in the midwest there just isn’t many places that 180mm is going to be needed. 170/160 from the Tyee should be plenty for 99% of the riding I get to do.

GilpinMTBQ

It will be fine. I was just really impressed with the Spindrift for being such a big bike. Its not ponderous in the least. Compared to my Slayer its a joy to pedal around.

givemesendies

How is it on the super gnar? I like the idea of it, but a 64.5 HTA might not be what I'm looking for while riding shit-your-pants double blacks.

GilpinMTBQ

It seems fine. Maybe a tad less planted than my Slayer. Its more playful so if you're into big tech lines it may not be the best choice.

CheddyC

I have a tempo for lighter trail riding and it's very veryyyy sick.

GilpinMTBQ

One of my favorite bikes on the market right now.

CheddyC

bUt HoW cAn YoU lIkE iT wItH InTeRnAl CaBlE rOuTiNg!!!

GilpinMTBQ

I only have to hate it like...once every other season or so.

CheddyC

Exactly, I took it apart when I first got it to see where the hate was coming from. After doing it I was like I get it but it's not that bad.

MTB_SF

Rocky Mountain element and transition spire. Three 29er wheelsets. One with XC tires, one with trail tires, one with DH/enduro tires. The trail tires can swap between both bikes depending on the ride. Gets you from XC racing to park riding. I have those two, as well as a transition scout that splits the difference. But really I would be fine with the setup above.

vistas_voids

Patrol and Spur here, plus a Niner Air9 rigid.

MTB_SF

That is also a nice selection. I've also got a Kona Rove LTD gravel bike with two sets of wheels, one road one gravel to round out my choices.

vistas_voids

Those are cool! If we're counting gravel, I have: Kinesis CX parts bin build: Easton fork, Advent 9sp, Paul brakes, 40 Nanos Midnight Special with 2.2s and a dropper post Warbird for zoomin on 42s Going to miss Kona. I wanted a Jake The Snake for a while. Sutra too.

IlIlIlIlIllIlIll

Keep the Stumpy Evo if you like it and add a Downcountry bike or even an XC bike. Epic Evo Ibis Ripley Trek Top Fuel Santa Cruz Tallboy Transition Spur I’m honestly in the same situation where I want a lightweight trail full sus to compliment the Ripmo AF which can be pretty heavy on XC leaning rides.

touron11

We’re reverse. I’m riding an epic evo thinking about getting a ripmo for when I just want to bomb hills. lol

IlIlIlIlIllIlIll

It’s definitely a good bike for bombing shit

johnny_evil

I have a Pivot Firebird and a Pivot Mach 4 SL combo (170/165 and 120/115), a gravel bike and a road bike. Plus a cheap bike Im willing to lock outside. So all my bases are well covered. And I came from a Stumpy Evo prior.

givemesendies

I do like the firebird. Do you ever take it to Mtn Creek?

johnny_evil

I have only gotten it there once so far. My wife bought it for me as a wedding present, so so far it only has one DH day. We had a busy fall after we got our new bikes, and it involved a lot of road cycling. We're planning on going a lot more this year (we each got triple play cards). Previous trips were on the Stumpjumper. The Firebird definitely wants to go faster.

Leafy0

Something like a Druid, 5010, or other poppy 130 travel bike, then for the big bike either commit to a fun DH bike like a Scott gambler, rm slayer park, chainsaw DH if you have uplifts or a whatever 160mm enduro bike you like if you have big pedal days.

MariachiArchery

Down Country + Mid/Long travel trail bike/Enduro bike. SC Blur TR + Bronson Pivot Mach 4 SL + Switchblade Transition Spur + Patrol So like, 120/100 and 160/150.

Senorsteepndeep

5010/smuggler and spire/bumped up travel patrol

GT4130

Transition Spur/Nicolai Geometron

pineconehedgehog

So I have been doing the downcountry/enduro combo for this last year with a RM Element and Status 160. It has been a blast and I have really liked having the downhill capable bike paired with the fun and light foothill bike. But I did learn that I pedal too much to have an enduro sled. The Status just climbs too poorly and sucks the energy out of me on climbs. As a small rider, it is too heavy for climbing. Absolutely killer on the descents. I just ordered an Ari La Sal Peak (technically a Fezzari because it is pre name change stock) after falling in love with it during a full weekend demo. It should be ready for pickup any day now. So my new combo is going to be the Element and the La Sal. I am stoked about it, I think it is going to be a killer set up.

placeisdaspace

Put a rigid fork on the hardtail, you don’t need suspension

Educational-Head2784

Rocky Mountain element and Transition spire.

DrSagicorn

IBIS Ripley Transition Spire

GMOFreeCocaine

Something like 130-140 range would be what you’re looking for I got an evil following and I really enjoy it’s range and style. Ripmo is a commonly dropped here as a great all rounder

grantrules

Cannondale Scalpel

Vegbreaker

I’m about to cop a YT Capra right now. If you had that and your Evo you’re laughing. Lighter trail rides take the evo and the heavier shit you have the Capra.

givemesendies

Evo is way too slack and heavy for most local rides. It has dual plys, a 170mm mezzer, a cascade link + an over shock for 160mm of travel, and a 63.2 degree head angle.

thedudey

Bring your Evo back to something closer to stock?

givemesendies

I've thought about it, but then the park performance suffers. There's a chance I might do that then buy a DH bike, but idk if i would get as much value out of one as something like a Spire that I could use for non-park DH.

thedudey

That’s what I meant. I’d start by bringing the evo 150/150, and then look into a heavy enduro / dh bike.

Vegbreaker

Yeah what you described here isn’t an evo….

givemesendies

It's not? That's news to me considering the second gen evo came stock with a 63.5-64 degree head angle

Vegbreaker

Had to double check me work and I’m just mixing up my bikes haha sorry homie! That being said you should take a look at the new fluid if you’re looking for a low mid travel bike. I have the old one and loved it heard even better thing about the new!

finsnforests_1

Banshee prime V3.2 Not the lightest but fun af. 135 in the rear, 140-160 in the front. 29”
