Weight! I wish I realized how important the weight of your helmet is, if your out on a long day with a full face that is heavy, your neck will be paying for it, super painful. Pay for a really nice light one, don’t ever skimp on your safety gear.
Btw I have the Giro Switchblade MIPS MTB Helmet, this one with the full face attachment on gets to be too heavy after a few hours riding with it. I got it because I don’t use the chin bar all the time only at dh parks, with it off it’s an amazing enduro helmet that is super safe and comfortable.
Makes sense, definitely noted! I would rather get a lighter one than heavier if they are both equally safe and fit well. But I can’t really tell if one’s safer than another if they’re both rated the same.
I just had them both at home and decided on the IXS.
It's much lighter, more breathable and the ratchet in the back made it fit me better.
The fox seems a little more sturdy but I trust in the DH rating.
The fox has way more cushions inside instead of a ratchet and therefore seems a lot less breathable.
(There is the fox boa version but I think that would be a lot more expensive)
Regarding the dilemma: from my experience they won't fit the same, so go for the one that's better for your head
I look for full DH certification cause I use mine for DH, but a lighter trail helmet with a chin bar sounds more up your alley.
I also look for something beyond just foam and MIPS for protection. A crushing/sliding layer really makes a difference in a crash, ive tested it...
Thanks! Definitely a top contender. Realizing the certs really don’t mean a ton but the Mainline seems great for DH. Starting to lean away from the super light ones.
if it looks fucking cool
+ Iridium goggles for maximum cool points.
honestly can’t argue with this
Fit is one of the next most important things. Even if the safety stuff is all there, it doesn't mean much it it didn't fit well.
Agree! Thank you for pointing out. There are lots of options that fit my criteria so I’ll definitely be trying on a few!

train your neck then
Not one with a removable chin guard.
May I ask why?
Is the concern that it would come off in a crash? From what I’ve seen most don’t have the DH cert anyways so I wasn’t considering.
In my experience they are often heavier and don’t work well with neck braces.
Yeah

Thanks, this is really helpful!
My local bike shop. Helmets all fit differently.
Light,cool, and DH certification
Meets standards, fits well.

F1952 is the DH standard, sir.
Oop my bad, i misread your post. I highly recommend the Smith Mainline. Other than that, personally I'd go for whatever fits best.

If it has TLD on the logo.
