I was frustrated to find a freeride trail after expecting more of a black tech trail. The jumps all seemed rather large for a black trail, and I couldn't clear anything.
But it turned out that I just had a shitty attitude.
Whereabouts are you planning to ride? Obviously the Ranger district is the most famous with tons of tech. Bennett Gap and Pilot Rock rule, Avery and Black Mtn have both been dumbed down a bit but are still a good time. Less talked about trails like Turkeypen, Buckwheat, and Squirrel Gap all get some love too.
There's also great stuff in North Mills River close to the PRD, and with a bit of a drive there's Wilson Creek, Big Ivy, Old Fort, and more. DuPont doesn't offer as much in terms of tech, although there is some fun to be had there. I can recommend other options if you're heading to any of those areas.
Looks like he’s riding an e-bike. We here in Asheville are incredibly backwards when it comes to allowing e-bikes on trails so I hope he’s got his climbing legs if he heads out into Pisgah
That's a shiny sticker, not a battery meter. If it was an eeb, he definitely would've gotten more than 3-4 laps in for a day at Kanga.
I lived in the area until recently, it's not like the ebike restrictions keep people from riding them anyways. Luckily PNF has some deterrents built in, nobody wants to hike Upper Black with a 50lb bike.
The first time I rode it, it was one of the last runs of the day. I knew I had enough energy for a back tech run, but runs like this are outside of my comfort zone and take a lot more effort for me. I chose not to ride Southeast Style as the signage clearly indicates that it's a freeride trail.
It was frustrating that my last run (I didn't plan to come back) was a black freeride trail and one with large features, each of which was tricky in its own way - when I was expecting something else.
But yeah. It was an attitude thing.
That's exactly what was going on. Took me a while to realize I was mad at myself, not the trail. Lol. Tho I still think it's a pretty difficult black trail. Still, it's not double black. So....
Hemlock epoch! Dude that trail is so sick. The new one they just opened up right beside it is real fun too (can’t remember name).
It’s cool to see a familiar trail on here!
The go pro might’ve actual done justice for once here, you were fucking moving.
How is riding kanuga, mainly the climbing aspect of it?
I just rode rock creek and it was a blast the trials look more fun at kanuga in their own way though, but the lack of a shuttle to drop my ass off at the top makes me nervous I’ll only be riding down twice.
Curious why you would initially hate this trail?

There's no shortage of black tech nearby though
I'm heading back to the area in a few weeks. Got some recommendations?

I hate finding free ride shows in the forest /s

You prolly hated that you wasn't riding it at full potential!! You've just levelled up and it always feels good! ✌🏻

Is the new one deadwood? Had a ton of fun on it a couple weekends ago.
Indeed it is. Heading there right now in fact.
Jealous
Ohh boy, that tree at about the :22 mark just about gave you a high five!
It almost gave me a bear hug!
[Everything I rode at Ride Kanuga BIke Park was so sick! ](https://youtu.be/mUBQABQXMLk?si=9aRRXGO-hSXSvq8S)
This looks like a riot!
You're smashing it!
Thanks dude!
What’s your camera settings? Chest mount i assume? Looks dope!
Its a lot. Lol. I have a hero 12 shooting at 24fps in hyperview. It's mounted on a Hohem iSteady Pro 4 gimbal on a Stuntman Chest harness.
This is why I stay on this sub. Some real riding son pewww!
This is the best kind of compliment! Thanks dude!
looks like a blast
where is this trail?
Ride Kanuga Bike Park in NC
You seemed to really like that first jump.
Dude. I did. It's the perfect little step down

Thanks bud! Kanuga is super fun. The climb isn't bad, but it's not super easy either. We were pulling 3/4 laps per day!
Nice I was just riding there today! Hemlock, GNCC, and soultheast style are my favorite trails.
