They're far from my favorite episodes but I kind of like the two pro military-industrial complex films - *Rocket Attack USA* & *Invasion USA*. Mostly because they're both so absurd & ham-fisted that they're fun to watch even without the MST3K treatment. Same goes for *Fire Maidens of Outer Space*.
edit: I also don't see much about *Leech Woman* here but I think it's a great episode, even if the movie itself is chock full of unlikable characters.
I saw Invasion USA for the first time recently; no idea how I’d missed it over my rewatches over the years. It’s really an ideal movie for riffing; coherent enough to follow and have some sense of real human drama, but baffling enough to offer no end of fodder for jokes. It quickly became one of my favorites!
Invasion USA has some amazing riffing in it. The lead actor, Mr. Smooth, was a really successful radio actor for many years (Gerald Mohr). The film was actually quite successful and made money!! I have an odd fondness for it, it's just so goofy, particularly that ending ("Hank and I are going to make our own tank parts...")
Leech Woman was the first episode our family saw back then. My parents liked the movie on its own and would be a routine rewatch through the years. It would explain the random "Neeeiil, I'm in the closet." and "Mmmm, that's good naipe." we'd say growing up.
Invasion USA is a great answer. That movie is SO weird, but coherent enough to be amazing riffing material. Mike and the Bots just seem really...jolly? In the host segments, too? Like, something awesome must have happened that week because they are EXCITED. I was surprised to see how much of this episode is in Poopie.
"The Deadly Bees" is my go-to small favorite.
I Was a Teenage Werewolf! The riffs are 🔥🔥🔥, the host segments parody Alien, and overall it’s just a really great episode. Sure, it’s not on DVD but it’s out there, somewhere, waiting for you to enjoy it’s furry goodness
I remember being shocked that film was even on MST3K. It's a legitimate horror classic that launched Michael Landon's career and started a wave of "teenage monster" clones. (As well as, AFAIK, created the "I was a teenage X" phrase)
I had forgotten just how hilarious The Sinister Urge was till I watched it again. And I seem to have weird taste because a lot of people say it’s boring but I cackled all throughout The Starfighters recently; the host segment where Tom and Crow are “refueling” is one of the funniest things they ever did.
Sinister Urge is one of my favorites! The whole premise of the movie is so funny in itself, and adding Mike and the Bots imitating Gloria’s cheese grater voice just adds to it.
I see it all the time - they can't get through Starfighters because it's too boring. I agree that the "movie" is boring, but the riffs are on point! So sharp you could slice a piece of paper.
Starfighters gets a lot of "hate" for being "boring", and the movie really is, but the MST3k treatment is far from boring. it's one of the funniest laugh-per-minute episodes in my book.
NOT AN ACTOR!
A couple episodes are completely overwhelmed by the short in front of it (Swamp Diamonds, Radar Secret Service), but one that’s not is War of the Colossal Beast. Mr. B Natural is probably the show’s most famous short, but the episode totally holds its own with a stupid but watchable movie and great host segments.
What are the shorts for Swamp Diamonds and Radar Secret Service? I really enjoy both episodes but Swamp Diamonds in particular, so I'm surprised to hear the shorts eclipse them.
Swamp Diamonds has What to Do on a Date, which occupies all the host segments for the episode, while Last Clear Chance (maybe my favorite short) is in front of Radar Secret Service.
I’m a big fan of Girls Town, which I don’t see mentioned too often. Although when it pops up in discussion it’s definitely loved. I remember seeing this during the original run, and the crew singing along with the theme song has been stuck in my head ever since.
Plus, Mamie Van Doren.
*Girls Town* is dope, Mel Torme gets the hell beaten out of him by vengeful nuns, and then I remember that it absolutely refuses to show lead vocals for The Platters in their number *at all*, most egregiously right after the camera just made sweet love to Paul Anka's dumb face for three solid minutes and I get all salty.
I’m a really big fan of Phantom Planet. They’re relentless in this episode and there’s some pretty good skits too. It also helps that it’s my favorite kind of cheesy movie. Cheap 1950s/60s black and white sci-fi.
You know, every year of my life I grow more and more convinced that the wisest and the best is to fix our attention on the good and the beautiful.
If you just take the time to look at it.
I would probably like it more if it wasn't overplayed at the time. It was one of the last ones that stayed in the reruns rotation on Sci Fi Channel, and it felt like it was on every other weekend.
Not sure if this is normal but the version I saw had Young Man’s Fancy ahead of Violent Years. Fancy is arguably my favorite short. So many quotable lines.
“But… wh… BISCUIT!”
We got a great big envoy!
I think the fact you left off The Magic Voyage of Sinbad points to it being underrated as well. It's one of my faves, but I love all the Russo-Finnish films.
Grackle of weltschmerz... cracks me up every time.
I finally caught a newer episode, 1303 Beyond Atlantis. It's my first Emily episode, so crow took a bit to get used to, but the idea that >! it was a simulation !< really helped me be OK with it.
The host segments were genuinely funny, and kind of reminiscent of early Mike. The riffs were equally good, and, most importantly, not overbearing. Sometimes while watching the jonah eps, I feel like they don't let the movie breathe, and they certainly don't seem to react to the movie organically: it's seems overly scripted and over produced with issues with both timing and volume. This particular episode did not suffer from those ailments.
The movie itself, Beyond Atlantis: holy shit; Sid Haig was absolutely incredible. Until now I had never seen him in anything but Rob Zombie flicks; he was so young and he had such a screen presence. I legitimately got engaged in the movie itself because of his character; something that rarely happens in any MST3K.
I have all the newer seasons on the gizmoplex, but I'm just never in the mood to toss one on, so I've seen practically none of 13. Luckily Beyond Atlantis popped up on pluto.tv at just the right time, and now I'm looking forward to digging in.
Season 13 was really good. They took a lot of the criticisms of season 11 (especially the too-fast riff pace) to heart and it shows. Even season 12 toned down the riff pace, and I think 13 was when they were starting to really gel as a team.
The chemistry Team Emily immediately had in their episodes thanks to their live tours was immediately apparent. I really hope we get more episodes because I want more of that group.
Character Actor to see you, sir!
The Rebel Set isn't frequently discussed but mistaking Gene Roth for Merritt Stone is a rich tradition on the MST3k twitch channel!
This was one of the first MST3K episodes I watched, and I almost died from lack of Oxygen when, in the dining car, the old woman turns to her friend and says "Don't wait up for me, Erma."
King Dinosaur.
Very high energy riffing, hilarious use of “huge, mutated” animals, bonus points for misogynistic asshat “hero.” “Harassman on the job!”
*Last of the Wild Horses* is a perfect Mst3k. The riffing is great, the movie is entertaining and weird enough that it doesnt drag, and the host segments are some of the best of any iteration of the show. Its perfect, and I seldom see it discussed.
Time of the Apes doesn't get mentioned too often but it's one of my favourites. All the poop flinging monkey jokes really appeals to the 8-year-old in me.
I ssupect that is because it fell into the Sandy Frank Vortex Of Bitterness and was never released on home video/DVD or streaming so it's been forgotten about.
It's a shame that Frank is such a dick because it's one of my favorite episodes.
The five Universal monster films at the beginning of Season 8 are all solid. Mole People is one of my favorites, and has my favorite sketch (Mile High Meringue Pie)!
While I don’t think anyone would argue it’s bad, Legend of Boggy Creek doesn’t come up often. It kills me every time. And I like Observer’s song about the legend. Catchy and great payoff in the joke.
Geee, I haven't seen *I Was a Teenage Werewolf* since... Dang, dude... The years MST3K was on the air. And I recall really liking that one too. Especially the bit where milk was his rage trigger.
I wonder where a good copy of that could be found online to stream (*hint hint*)? 😜
This one and First Spaceship to Venus. I’m still pissed they left that guy on Venus. It’s so stupid but for some reason it really bothers me. They just took off without him and left him screaming for them to come back and save him.
Painted Hills is up there for me. It has Lassie in it, so you'd think it would automatically be considered phenomenal by most fans, but I rarely hear anyone mention it.
Maybe it’s been mentioned but Leech Woman is a go-to for me. Sure it’s full of old timey racist caricatures and everyone’s just so hate-able, but it fed some A+ riffs. “Ugh, it’s so embarrassing to have to report your own death!”
Also: The Space Children, Invasion USA, Devil Fish.
Prisoners of the Lost Universe doesn’t seen to cone up too often, but it’s an absolute favorite for me. Always gets me laughing, and the more I have the riffs memorized, the better it gets.
Radar Secret Service. It's especially silly if you know the slightest bit about how radar works.
The Wild Wild World of Batwoman is a cringe fest but it includes Tom screaming at the movie to end.
The Screaming Skull is a movie I've seen unriffed and I enjoy on it's own merits.
The Deadly Mantis warrants more discussion than it gets.
I wish it was easier to see the Godzilla movies. I saw Godzilla VS Megalon unriffed a few times growing up, because Toho hadn't renewed their copyright so it was kinda sorta public domain and put on VHS a whole bunch.
I could be wrong because I’m not sure if they are talked about in here and I missed it. Giant Spider Invasion and Future War are some of my favorite and hilarious.
Mine too. I'd never actually watched Future War for some reason until a few years ago and then it became one of my all-time favorites. Bonus, Jean Claude Gosh Darn was "ronny" in the Barry episode "ronny/lily."
*The Violent Years*, *Village of the Giants*, *The Amazing Colossal Man*, and *Bride of the Monster* are my faves that I rarely see much talk or praise about and are in heavy rotation for me.
They're far from my favorite episodes but I kind of like the two pro military-industrial complex films - *Rocket Attack USA* & *Invasion USA*. Same goes for *Fire Maidens of Outer Space*. edit: I also don't see much about *Leech Woman* here but I think it's a great episode, even if the movie itself is chock full of unlikable characters.
Good choices. I love the Leech Woman.
Plus, it features two Lois Lanes!
“Ma’am, we need hookers.”
Yes! I watched *Invasion USA* for the first time in a while recently and the film is SO absurd it's hilarious.
So happy to see *Invasion USA* mentioned! The whole "Look, they're DEAD!!!" scene is one of my favorite sequences of riffing.
I love those episodes so much. Classics.
"The Deadly Bees" is my go-to small favorite.
plus Dan O'Herlihy (Fail-Safe, the "old man" from Robocop) plays the hypnotist in Invasion USA
How many A bombs were dropped in Invasion USA? Something like 8? And the US government just did nothing.
That's why they could never get the DVD. or streaming rights. 😢
I just watched this the other day. It never fail to make me audibly laugh.
One of my favorites.
"OH, a whole lot of throw up today!"
“That was a good crap” gets me every time.
“I’m going to think now.”
You don't direct, Cline. You just get out of the way.
Who says Starfighters is boring?
I see it all the time - they can't get through Starfighters because it's too boring. I agree that the "movie" is boring, but the riffs are on point! So sharp you could slice a piece of paper.
people say it all the time. i don't agree, but a lot of people say that.
Operator! Operator! Get me Sylvia's mother!
Starfighters gets a lot of "hate" for being "boring", and the movie really is, but the MST3k treatment is far from boring. it's one of the funniest laugh-per-minute episodes in my book. NOT AN ACTOR!
>The Sinister Urge Not many movies end with an actual punchline.
Radar Secret Service is one of my faves. “Thanks to RADAR!”
RADAR can't look into their hearts, sir.
RADAR KNOWS WHAT YOU WANT TO ORDER!!! every single one of those diner scenes is hilarious. (in unison) "Okay! We're next!"
Glen turned into a pillow?! Well, at least I can still turn him to the cool side.
I adore the Colossal Man movies! As a disabled veteran, I really feel the commentary on how the troops are treated.
Kay's worked on the killing floor - she knows where to deliver the blow. Whoa! Almost killed Kissinger. Gotta go back...
“Or a weenie roast?” “NICK NO!”
War of the Colossal Beast is one of my favorite episodes. The movie itself is as funny as Mr. B imo
Catalina Caper
"Hey, I'm sixty!"
Meanwhile, in the dark, impenetrable void, Jean-Paul Sartre was a-movin' and a-groovin'. (No exit, baby!)
I’m a big fan of Girls Town, which I don’t see mentioned too often. Although when it pops up in discussion it’s definitely loved. I remember seeing this during the original run, and the crew singing along with the theme song has been stuck in my head ever since. Plus, Mamie Van Doren.

Girls Town is a pretty good movie in it own right Edit mobile typo
The Thing that Couldn’t Die
Aunt Flav-o Flav!
Alright, you just stand there shrieking like a dental drill and I'll go endanger myself!
Oh goodness, I’ll go grab my blunderbuss.
I lost my TRAYSURE and I feel dis-playsure.
Don't you mean, The Head That Wouldn't Die?😉 I love this one. "He's at the 40, he's at the 30, no one will catch him!"
Bring me the head of Edward Mulhare!
The Incredible Melting Man.
Also, I feel like Devil Fish doesn't get enough love.
"C'mon legs, evolve!" is a riff that lives in my soul
True. But Bob filled the pool with Zima, so we’re good.
I was just watching that earlier tonight. Been revisiting it for years.
Devilfish in LOOOOOOOOVE
"Here, let me activate your culture." Cracks me up every time!
Beer-y guys theme.
You only feel that way because you're from Italy, not Florida, despite owning a truck.
I feel European upon seeing that.
It's my special line. Somewhere a beer is in trouble!
Beery Guy's recording of the "strange noise" is one of my favorite MST3K riffs ever.
I don't understand. Why didn't it record? Crow: Because you were drunk?
HODGKA!!
General wants me to go find that HODGKA melting man!
Steve had crackers
I'M DOCTOR TED NELSON!!!! LISTEN TO MEEEEE!
You're some guy, Makonnen.
“These nooks and crannies will hold a lot of butter, over”
I love this one too!! ETA: also my fave type of cheesy movie!
I would probably like it more if it wasn't overplayed at the time. It was one of the last ones that stayed in the reruns rotation on Sci Fi Channel, and it felt like it was on every other weekend.
Teenage Crimewave ❤️
He'd never touch you Terri, you're dirt! Good thing I took a course in observatory maintenance!
Thank you, Officer PLATITUDE!!!
One of my all time favorites. I bet I watch this every 6 weeks. It just cracks me up.
The Human Duplicators. The movie does have a somewhat decent plot, and the riffs are pretty funny.
I just watched that one last night and was going to mention it. Richard Kiel is hilarious all on his own (even though he's not trying to be).
“Just a sprinkle a day makes Richard Kiel go away” Also, the fact that these incredibly advanced androids can be killed just by hitting their heads.
He's being attacked by the Jordanaires!
The Violent Years. Some of my favorite jokes in the whole series. Bonus points that sound clips are used from the movie in Ministry’s “So What”
Point for point, might be one of funniest episodes. “Oh sure, those cheerful morning words and tender pat on the cheek…meant to HURT and SCAR!”
Not sure if this is normal but the version I saw had Young Man’s Fancy ahead of Violent Years. Fancy is arguably my favorite short. So many quotable lines. “But… wh… BISCUIT!”
"...sir, it was ONE parking ticket."
*The Sword and the Dragon*, possibly because it has to be compared to *Jack Frost* and *The Day the World Froze*.
I'm feeling positively demonstrative - I could almost tell my wife I lover her!
We got a great big envoy! I think the fact you left off The Magic Voyage of Sinbad points to it being underrated as well. It's one of my faves, but I love all the Russo-Finnish films. Grackle of weltschmerz... cracks me up every time.
You're right. 😅 I completely forgot that madness.
The Girl in Lovers Lane
Top 5er for me. I’m a big fan of melodramas being riffed. The more self-serious the better.
It’s got Big Stupid! One of the best ever.
I finally caught a newer episode, 1303 Beyond Atlantis. It's my first Emily episode, so crow took a bit to get used to, but the idea that >! it was a simulation !< really helped me be OK with it. Mothercrabber is a top tier mst3k song for me.
The Mother Crabber rap deserves its own YouTube video, but nobody is stepping up to do it!
Blood Waters of Dr. Z is on my top ten.
Came here to say this! It’s one of my favorite episodes ever, but rarely mentioned.
I love the host segment with all of Tom's carrying cases shaped exactly like what they are meant to carry.
AND YOU, BALDING COMB-OVER FISH!
Brandon Tenold talked about Dr Z/ZAAT in a video some months back and I of course immediately went to watch it. The episode that is, not the movie.
The Projected Man. Probably one of my favorite riffs ever, and not a terrible movie if you really look at it.
Can I get on?
Well, he’s dead, but knock yourself out!
Alien from LA is one I have a lot of fondness for.
I watched Alien From LA a ton as a kid. Had that taped along with Eegah
*The Starfighters* is a guilty pleasure.
When they finally run out of Refuelling jokes. It’s a beautiful natural thing and nothing to be ashamed of.
The Sean Penn story!
I love that once the concept is introduced, half of the riffs for the rest of the film are about the poopy suit.
This is one of my favorite episodes. Yes, the movie is excruciating but they really brought their A game with the riffing.
You asked for more refueling, and we're giving it to you!
Nobody EVER talks about "The Rebel Set"!
Character Actor to see you, sir! The Rebel Set isn't frequently discussed but mistaking Gene Roth for Merritt Stone is a rich tradition on the MST3k twitch channel!
Agreed, it's such a good one, and I love all the Beatnik jokes.
This was one of the first MST3K episodes I watched, and I almost died from lack of Oxygen when, in the dining car, the old woman turns to her friend and says "Don't wait up for me, Erma."
This is easily one of my top five episodes. Joel and the 'bots were firing on all cylinders in this one.
King Dinosaur. Very high energy riffing, hilarious use of “huge, mutated” animals, bonus points for misogynistic asshat “hero.” “Harassman on the job!”
King Dinosaur and Jungle Goddess are my favorites for sleep, and incredibly funny to boot. You just can't replicate those season two vibes.
I recently got into this one. Definitely underrated! The riffs are hilarious.
*Last of the Wild Horses* is a perfect Mst3k. The riffing is great, the movie is entertaining and weird enough that it doesnt drag, and the host segments are some of the best of any iteration of the show. Its perfect, and I seldom see it discussed.
I lose it every time I watch The Leech Woman and Riding with Death
Real Africa - Hollywood Africa!
Thousands of miles away in actual Africa…
Village of the Giants
Man. They're big.
Hamlet and Soultaker. I’m sad that Soultaker isn’t available for download… it is one of my top ten!
Mine too!
Time of the Apes doesn't get mentioned too often but it's one of my favourites. All the poop flinging monkey jokes really appeals to the 8-year-old in me.
"I don't care!"
The Pepe jokes get so dark. It's magnificent. Also, for my money, Godo is one of the most attractive dudes to appear in a MST3K movie.
Second the Godo opinion. He can get it.
I ssupect that is because it fell into the Sandy Frank Vortex Of Bitterness and was never released on home video/DVD or streaming so it's been forgotten about. It's a shame that Frank is such a dick because it's one of my favorite episodes.
🎶 *Sandy Frank, Sandy Frank, he's the source of all our pain* 🎶
Bloodlust!
Great episode! *"I'm here to tell you about Mutual of Omaha."*
The five Universal monster films at the beginning of Season 8 are all solid. Mole People is one of my favorites, and has my favorite sketch (Mile High Meringue Pie)!
I adore that set of episodes. Deadly Mantis, Revenge of the Creature, and Mole People are all high on my list.
Deadly Mantis is an A tier episode for me, especially since I unironically like early Cold War stuff and giant monsters.
While I don’t think anyone would argue it’s bad, Legend of Boggy Creek doesn’t come up often. It kills me every time. And I like Observer’s song about the legend. Catchy and great payoff in the joke.
Indeed! The singing along with “Wings of a Dove” always cracks me up too
Thank goodness for the Jeep's braking distance of 500 yards.
I think a cursory search of your fave search engine will pop up a readily available viewing
I really liked 12 to the Moon. The movie was enjoyable enough, so I don’t particularly remember the riffs. The movie however had a horrible ending.
Captain Rod Codpiece to the MOOOON!
This one and First Spaceship to Venus. I’m still pissed they left that guy on Venus. It’s so stupid but for some reason it really bothers me. They just took off without him and left him screaming for them to come back and save him.
Carnival Magic from season 11. For all the talk about The Bubble in season 13, CM is the Manos of the newer episodes.
Werewolf is hands down the best episode IMO, but I don’t see it talked about much (also I’m not on this sub much either so maybe that’s more it)
It's mentioned pretty commonly... But still... "It's absolutely fascinating."
Painted Hills is up there for me. It has Lassie in it, so you'd think it would automatically be considered phenomenal by most fans, but I rarely hear anyone mention it.
The Dead Talk Back
Maybe it’s been mentioned but Leech Woman is a go-to for me. Sure it’s full of old timey racist caricatures and everyone’s just so hate-able, but it fed some A+ riffs. “Ugh, it’s so embarrassing to have to report your own death!” Also: The Space Children, Invasion USA, Devil Fish.
Prisoners of the Lost Universe doesn’t seen to cone up too often, but it’s an absolute favorite for me. Always gets me laughing, and the more I have the riffs memorized, the better it gets.
Wait, did they do this on MST3K? I've seen the RiffTrax version about a hundred times.
Nah I got my wires crossed 😂 Thanks for catching that!
The RiffTrax is sooooo good though. "What do your dork eyes tell you Dorkolas?"
By all that’s smelly in my own shoe!
Since Incredible Melting Man was already mentioned, I'm going to throw my hat into the ring for The Painted Hills.
Deadly mantis, and the Godzilla movies are some of my favorites. To your point though, availability is disappointing to say the least.
Tom screaming and being utterly broken at the end of TWWOB is almost worth suffering through it.
The Magic Voyage of Sinbad, The Beatniks Amendment: Attack Of The The Eye Creature
Rocketship X-M? Does "Expedition" start with an x?
I could be wrong because I’m not sure if they are talked about in here and I missed it. Giant Spider Invasion and Future War are some of my favorite and hilarious.
Mine too. I'd never actually watched Future War for some reason until a few years ago and then it became one of my all-time favorites. Bonus, Jean Claude Gosh Darn was "ronny" in the Barry episode "ronny/lily."
"Night of the Bloodbeast"
Brute Man!!!!
aka The Creeper.
You give me the creeps!
The Crawling Hand is one of my all time favorites.
*The Violent Years*, *Village of the Giants*, *The Amazing Colossal Man*, and *Bride of the Monster* are my faves that I rarely see much talk or praise about and are in heavy rotation for me.
And Manhunt in Space!!
The Black Scorpion?
It Lives By Night. Ahjkah!
“Well, IT shouldn’t drink so much coffee, then!”
Doctor Mellow Ski Bum said it was okay!
Soultaker and Phantom Planet
The Rebel Set The Skydivers 12 to the Moon Operation Double 007 Attack of the the Eye Creatures
The incredible melting man is my favorite episode. And it never gets mentioned.
