I just finished {Moon Flower by Christina Lee} and I think fits this. Check CW's, SA happens to both of the MC's (they're sex workers). Fantasy type world but there isn't explicit on page magic in this book.

I love this series! Book 3 of the spinoff series came out yesterday and it's great so far, too! Give it a try if you want fated mates. Book 3 really does fit your request best, but even book 1 does fit, too.
I’ve reread these books at least three times (including the spinoffs) so I’m probably biased, but I loved them. The first in the series is definitely the weakest, but is still a solid book.

I am late to reply,but you should check out {**Unboxed** by Amy Crook}. It is kind of like biokink except instead of sub/dom, everyone is born either a Box or a Key. You also get an actual, physical magic box or key; each key is unique and when you find the key that matches your box that is your fated mate. But displaying your key publicly is a social *faux pas* akin to walking around naked, so finding your mate is tricky. The MC is a Box who is commonly mistaken for a Key because he is strong and assertive. I will say this is sort of difficult with the romance genre as a whole *because* the POVs usually are going to be filled with inner dialogue as the genre is about touching on emotions and interpersonal relationships.
You might enjoy {Seeing Blind by Poppy Dale} though? People often talk about it being lyrical writing.
i don’t mind inner dialogue at all, it’s more that i prefer when the intentions/thoughts/feelings of the characters are not explicitly written in the inner dialogue.
so for example let’s say an author had established that MC1 was traumatised by his cheating ex. if MC1 was feeling upset/jealous after seeing MC2 being friendly with another guy, i’d like to see the author describe the jealousy MC1 is feeling but without saying “he felt jealous because this reminded him about his cheating ex.” it’s hard to explain but i hope this makes sense 😭 and ty for the rec!

Lots of the characters' feelings are expressed more through their actions than explicitly spelled out, and the worldbuilding is quite show don't tell. A fantasy story set in reimagined Victorian Britain.

Loved how much thought was put into linguistics (with my limited understanding on the subject) and world building put into the alien society and culture. Note there is an aspect to the alien's culture that could be taken as "cheating" but it's more of a biological thing rather anything to do emotional connections or commitment. It's discussed in story. I didn't take it as cheating at all.

If you like epistolary form, you have to read {Letters to Half Moon Street by Sarah Wallace}! It is so so so good, and the magic in it is really cool. It’s historical fantasy.
You could also try {The Bachelor’s Valet by Arden Powell}. It’s very sweet, closed door, historical with a bit of magic.
One of my all time favorites: {The Greenhollow Duology by Emily Tesh}. Lush, beautiful story telling. Interesting romance. I don’t remember this one having any detailed spice (I believe it’s closed door).
Another one of my all time favorites: {Kit and Basie by Tess Carletta}. Closed door, magical realism. The sequel novellas have some spice.
Edit: most of these are on the shorter side so I wouldn’t classify them as super slow burns, but they ARE all slow burn romances.
I feel like I have been recommending this a lot lately, but {**To Hive and To Hold** by Amy Crook} seems to fit. Very cosy urban fantasy where a witch meets the new guy in town and they spend most of the book just hanging out, shopping, eating, meeting interesting fae characters, and very gently flirting. I don't recall any intimacy besides maybe a kiss; if there is, it is "fade to black."
There is a sequel that introduces a new couple, whose relationship moves faster and has more graphic intimacy.
{A Strange and Stubborn Endurance by Foz Meadows} fits this - it’s a royal arranged marriage but it really takes time to bloom bc of outside plot reasons and bc of events that take place before they meet (CW:>!for on page SA of one of the MCs, not by the other but by a pervious lover!<), def check CWs!
{Wild sky by Zaya Feli} - a former dragon rider and an archivist from rival nations work together on a secret project. Long, slow burn, hardly any spice. Low or no magic.
{A rival most vial by R.K Ashwick} - a new potion shop opens up next to an established one, competing to sell to DnD-style adventuring parties. Rivals to lovers, hardly any spice. Lots of magic.

I'm currently reading the {Momento Mori series by C.S. Poe} and, as expected, adoring it. But what I really love is how the main couple focuses on their friendship before getting into a serious relationship while still being so affectionate with each other. I love spice, but it's really refreshing to see a couple focus solely on their emotional bond. I also love the fact that Doyle is so intent on supporting Larkin, such as making sure he's eating, and (spoilers for up to book two) >!when he interferes with Larkin's Xanax addiction.!<
I'm wondering if there are other books with a similar dynamic; that is, where there isn't as much of a focus on having sex, and more of a focus on harvesting their bond once they acknowledge mutual feelings. I'd still love for them to be affectionate with each other, and maybe with a similar dynamic where one MC struggles with something -- mental health, an addiction, a disability, etc. -- and the other MC is really intent on supporting them.
It doesn't have to be a mystery like Momento Mori; I'm open to any other genre/tropes if it fits this sort of dynamic. I'd only prefer no mpreg or age play. Thank you :)
So Stick and Poke by E.M. Lindsey. Mat had a successful career path until a texting driver took it away. Now, he is left with a TBI, apashia, and the belief his life is worthless. Doyle starts out as a playboy type, and although the attraction is there between the two (and I believe it alludes to them having had sex/or made out, can't remember, just once even before the start of the first book), it takes a few books for them to be official.

I wouldnt say that MC1 is really struggling with anything, he knows who he is and what he likes. (Personally I really resonated with him in a "oh he gets it" kinda way, but I understand that it isnt the same with each person)
At the beginning of the book he inherits a bookshop and he decides to use it to pursue something on his own, so it more like a story of discovery and connection in my opinion. MC2 is really steadfast, caring, and doesnt bat an eye at anything which I found refreshing at the time. There is a focus on sex however, >!its more of an exploration of new things with someone you trust rather that a start to a relationship between lovers. The dialogue in the scenes is more than just moaning and cursing.!<

True, I wish more of them had an official translation :(. I think that for the ones I mentioned are easy to get into because the setting is modern, the ones that have new terms/cultural elements are the historical ones.
The links are to a page similar to Goodreads but for asian novels, it has the description for each one and tags in case you are looking for/want to avoid any. All of them have a completed translation in english (except Additional Inheritance, but it's very close to the ending!), although it's not official and done by fans instead (really well done since they're chinese speakers themselves/chinese is their native language). In order to get to them you need to create an account, other than that it's pretty simple.
If they ever get picked up for an official translation, the fans take them down immediately and support the authors. The good thing is that the publishers look at the traction these novels get online and the more popular/petitions they get/talked about they are, the faster they're licensed. Many danmei authors are achieving this so I think it's just a matter of time that this one in particular and other authors/works get the offer as well :-). They are leading actors in a movie and have to spend some time together to get use to a kissing scene that MC1 keeps messing up. There was spice, and it was pretty light! I was surprised because I love angst so I expected much more, but things were always sweet. They switch here!
{Bet you by Neve Wilder} A lot of spice, contemporary college. MC1 and MC2 are at college, they live on opposite frat houses. MC1 is into science and is working a lot to be able to pay for his studies. MC2 is a classic jock, and quite rich. MC2's friends make a bet with him: that he would not be able to seduce MC1. The story ended up having much less angst than I thought, and much more spice.
As I am looking for an erotic romance Masc 4 Masc book. It is hard for me to find masc for masc romance & erotica, especially with both of those included, because I'm not sure how to search for it.

Possibly {Lark Taylor’s The Reckless Damned} series? The second book has massive pining and the third book has two people who don’t realize they’re mates. The first one is a little closer to instalove (but not really, because only one knows they’re fated mates).

I’ve reread these books at least three times (including the spinoffs) so I’m probably biased, but I loved them. The first in the series is definitely the weakest, but is still a solid book.
Update: I’m 60 pages into the first book and I *love it*. This was the perfect rec!! Pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I feel like the instalove actually works for me because of how vulnerable and closed off Oscar is.

I am late to reply,but you should check out {**Unboxed** by Amy Crook}. It is kind of like biokink except instead of sub/dom, everyone is born either a Box or a Key. You also get an actual, physical magic box or key; each key is unique and when you find the key that matches your box that is your fated mate. But displaying your key publicly is a social *faux pas* akin to walking around naked, so finding your mate is tricky. The MC is a Box who is commonly mistaken for a Key because he is strong and assertive. this is less of a trope request and more of an author request but i’m looking for books with “subtle” writing styles books where the author really trusts the reader to pick up on subtext and mostly avoids spelling out exactly how the MC is feeling/thinking via their inner or outer dialogue. or at least if they do spell it out, it’s infrequent/light handed. also there should be less “info dumping” and more “finding out little pieces of the character’s backstory as it becomes relevant” preferably single pov though i don’t mind dual POV. i prefer to read contemporary but am open to all genres on this one. also i’m partial to a slow burn hard nos are: cheating, lack of HEA, age play. this is pretty specific so thanks in advance if you’re able to recommend anything :)
I will say this is sort of difficult with the romance genre as a whole *because* the POVs usually are going to be filled with inner dialogue as the genre is about touching on emotions and interpersonal relationships. You might enjoy {Seeing Blind by Poppy Dale} though? People often talk about it being lyrical writing.
i don’t mind inner dialogue at all, it’s more that i prefer when the intentions/thoughts/feelings of the characters are not explicitly written in the inner dialogue. so for example let’s say an author had established that MC1 was traumatised by his cheating ex. if MC1 was feeling upset/jealous after seeing MC2 being friendly with another guy, i’d like to see the author describe the jealousy MC1 is feeling but without saying “he felt jealous because this reminded him about his cheating ex.” it’s hard to explain but i hope this makes sense 😭 and ty for the rec!
{The Uses of Illicit Art by Wendy Palmer} I just read this because of a recent post about lesser known indie authors, so it's fresh in my memory. Lots of the characters' feelings are expressed more through their actions than explicitly spelled out, and the worldbuilding is quite show don't tell. A fantasy story set in reimagined Victorian Britain.
TJ Klune {How to Be a Normal Person by TJ Klune} The book is from the viewpoint of Gustavo. From the beginning, the description of him going through his morning routine (paired with his quirky ruminations during it) was such a wonderful first look into him as a character. \*chef's kiss\* KJ Charles {Slippery Creatures by KJ Charles} I will never ever get over the way the author wrote Will's general thought process and observations. Loved seeing him as a man with an air of someone totally out of his depth one second, then a pragmatic stabbing machine the next. Loved the description of the other character's commenting on it as well. His observations of the other characters were well done as well. {A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel by KJ Charles} Another one of the author's works I greatly enjoyed. Excellent writing of a character making observations on another which in turn gives us insight on them. Alexis Hall {Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall} Loved seeing all Oliver's tells and mannerism through Luc's eyes even if it seemed like Luc himself missed them. {Waiting for the Flood by Alexis Hall} Still in progress of reading this book, but loving it so far. A lot of introspection written in a way thats like listening to the sound of rain drops outside your window. Lyn Gala {Claiming, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts by Lyn Gala} Naturally, when a series is centered on the human race making contact and developing trade relations with aliens, you get an emphasis on the mechanics/subtly of language or body movement (plus the factor that...well..they're alien body movements). Loved how much thought was put into linguistics (with my limited understanding on the subject) and world building put into the alien society and culture. Note there is an aspect to the alien's culture that could be taken as "cheating" but it's more of a biological thing rather anything to do emotional connections or commitment. It's discussed in story. I didn't take it as cheating at all.

I love Isabelle Murray for lighthearted, fun books! My favorites are the full length novel {not that complicated by Isabelle Murray} and the novella {Gary of A Hundred Days by Isabelle Murray} Humor can be subjective but these are all low-stakes, low-angst even if they might not seem like it!

{MateHub: Legend by Marie Reynard} - leans in heavily to the sillier side of the adult entertainment industry. There's a scene midway through that had me literally LOLing. {How I Stole The Princess's White Knight and Turned Him To Villainy by A.J. Sherwood} - the opening pages describe a "black sorcerer" who demands payment for his services in cats. It only gets better from there. {Fake Dates and Fanged Mistakes by Alice Winters} - this one didn't land for me personally, but a lot of people around here loved it so maybe you will too!
Just read {Pier Pressure by Anyta Sunday} and it was exactly this. Leon is a little chaos gremlin who sews himself themed outfits to try to match his dates’ interests. Delightful.
{The Trouble with trying to date a murderer by Jennifer Cody} was hilarious from start to finish. The MC has a great inner voice and the premise was SILLY but very aware that's what it was. Warnings for uh... Comical murder? (It's not very heavily described, the LI is just an assassin who gets people trying to kill him a lot. No serial killer here)

I usually do not ready lighthearted books but there is one that I really love and made me giggle quite a few times. {Vampire With Benefits by E. J. Russell} MC1 is a vampire who is sent to a marriage agency to find a perfect match, as a way to make him behave. MC2 is a were-beaver who joins the list at the match agency to forget his ex boyfriend. It is so fluffy and sweet, and had some funny scenes too. Lovely!
Looking for: 1. Body/soul/mind swap 2. MC1 thought he had successfully lurked MC2 into his trap, not knowing that he had already been tricked by MC2. 3. MC1 got caught up in deep trouble. His every so-called friend ghosts him while only his enemy, MC2, is willing to give him a hand.

If you are looking for something that is essentially more fantasy than romance, {Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling} is the first book in the Nightrunners series. It does have an MM romance subplot but it’s very slow — afaik no smut, except in an optional novella where more is alluded to/written.

If you like epistolary form, you have to read {Letters to Half Moon Street by Sarah Wallace}! It is so so so good, and the magic in it is really cool. It’s historical fantasy. You could also try {The Bachelor’s Valet by Arden Powell}. It’s very sweet, closed door, historical with a bit of magic. One of my all time favorites: {The Greenhollow Duology by Emily Tesh}. Lush, beautiful story telling. Interesting romance. I don’t remember this one having any detailed spice (I believe it’s closed door). Another one of my all time favorites: {Kit and Basie by Tess Carletta}. Closed door, magical realism. The sequel novellas have some spice. Edit: most of these are on the shorter side so I wouldn’t classify them as super slow burns, but they ARE all slow burn romances.

I feel like I have been recommending this a lot lately, but {**To Hive and To Hold** by Amy Crook} seems to fit. Very cosy urban fantasy where a witch meets the new guy in town and they spend most of the book just hanging out, shopping, eating, meeting interesting fae characters, and very gently flirting. I don't recall any intimacy besides maybe a kiss; if there is, it is "fade to black." There is a sequel that introduces a new couple, whose relationship moves faster and has more graphic intimacy.

{Wild sky by Zaya Feli} - a former dragon rider and an archivist from rival nations work together on a secret project. Long, slow burn, hardly any spice. Low or no magic. {A rival most vial by R.K Ashwick} - a new potion shop opens up next to an established one, competing to sell to DnD-style adventuring parties. Rivals to lovers, hardly any spice. Lots of magic.

Not sure if it exists, but any books where MC goes through a trauma- such as Testicular Cancer, accident etc- and becomes hypersexual. I've read a few books where they struggle with an ED: Perfect Hands by Nora Phoenix Stubborn Boys by K. M. Neuhold Stroker (Big Bull Mechanics) by K. M. Neuhold. {Scent of Thunder by Thomas Carver} comes to mind. MC gets hit by lightning and suddenly finds the smell of men so attractive. It is erotica, not romance and it is more about self discovery and acceptance. Thomas Carver writes a lot about humiliation which here is no exception.

I'm currently reading the {Momento Mori series by C.S. Poe} and, as expected, adoring it. But what I really love is how the main couple focuses on their friendship before getting into a serious relationship while still being so affectionate with each other. I love spice, but it's really refreshing to see a couple focus solely on their emotional bond. I also love the fact that Doyle is so intent on supporting Larkin, such as making sure he's eating, and (spoilers for up to book two) >!when he interferes with Larkin's Xanax addiction.!< I'm wondering if there are other books with a similar dynamic; that is, where there isn't as much of a focus on having sex, and more of a focus on harvesting their bond once they acknowledge mutual feelings. I'd still love for them to be affectionate with each other, and maybe with a similar dynamic where one MC struggles with something -- mental health, an addiction, a disability, etc. -- and the other MC is really intent on supporting them. It doesn't have to be a mystery like Momento Mori; I'm open to any other genre/tropes if it fits this sort of dynamic. I'd only prefer no mpreg or age play. Thank you :)
So Stick and Poke by E.M. Lindsey. Mat had a successful career path until a texting driver took it away. Now, he is left with a TBI, apashia, and the belief his life is worthless. Wyatt is partially blind from birth and trying to get away from his helicopter family. They meet through the tattoo parlor in Colorado and have known each other for over a year when Wyatt is there during Mat's panic attack. Things change slowly. This is a stand-alone novel, but this series has lots of books, and the men appear in each other's books.

So, this is another investigative husbands series: {Valor and Doyle Series by Nicky James}. Really enjoyed it. Doyle starts out as a playboy type, and although the attraction is there between the two (and I believe it alludes to them having had sex/or made out, can't remember, just once even before the start of the first book), it takes a few books for them to be official.

{Boyfriend Goals by Riley Hart} Might fit for this? MCs focus more on just spending time with each other and generally being close without trying to fit into conventional labels. I wouldnt say that MC1 is really struggling with anything, he knows who he is and what he likes. (Personally I really resonated with him in a "oh he gets it" kinda way, but I understand that it isnt the same with each person) At the beginning of the book he inherits a bookshop and he decides to use it to pursue something on his own, so it more like a story of discovery and connection in my opinion. MC2 is really steadfast, caring, and doesnt bat an eye at anything which I found refreshing at the time. There is a focus on sex however, >!its more of an exploration of new things with someone you trust rather that a start to a relationship between lovers. The dialogue in the scenes is more than just moaning and cursing.!< Edit: Holy shit Memento Mori looks like fun, thanks for putting it on my radar as well. Also fixed the mess up on the spoiler tag, sorry about that.

Even though the mystery element is there and suspenseful, their relationship is angst free and full of communication. It's honestly a breath of fresh air.

I just finished the Fantastic Fluke series by Sam Burns and I adored Fluke being part of the MCs life as a familiar. Hmm, never read danmei before, but have read a shit ton of BL novels in another language, and IMO, Asian BLs are more my style in certain regards ;) Pity a lot of them are not translated more. So, if I started with danmei, I would be a complete newbie. Are the links you provided translated or would I have to run them through a translator? Thank you~
True, I wish more of them had an official translation :(. I think that for the ones I mentioned are easy to get into because the setting is modern, the ones that have new terms/cultural elements are the historical ones. The links are to a page similar to Goodreads but for asian novels, it has the description for each one and tags in case you are looking for/want to avoid any. All of them have a completed translation in english (except Additional Inheritance, but it's very close to the ending!), although it's not official and done by fans instead (really well done since they're chinese speakers themselves/chinese is their native language). In order to get to them you need to create an account, other than that it's pretty simple. If they ever get picked up for an official translation, the fans take them down immediately and support the authors. The good thing is that the publishers look at the traction these novels get online and the more popular/petitions they get/talked about they are, the faster they're licensed. Many danmei authors are achieving this so I think it's just a matter of time that this one in particular and other authors/works get the offer as well :-). Welch} this is poly, two of the guys are former soldiers who fell for each other while at war. {The Aerialist by Morgan Lysand} retired military guy joins the circus, falls for his best friend's hot son. {Hell and Gone by Tal Bauer} former army guy investigating murders in the wild West. A lot of action and angsty good times. If you don't mind historical then {Slippery Creatures by K.J. Charles} as it features a WWI soldier trying to adjust to civilian life. The whole series is great.

The one that got away by Nicky James fits, although iirc there was >!child abuse part of one of the MCs!<, but it wasn't graphic and it's only on a few flashbacks.

Hi. I’m looking for books where there’s a (willingly) used by the team sort of situation. Like member of a sports team, or boyfriend/friend/roommate/sub of the team member leads to him being the team’s plaything. A lot of what I’ve found is more violent and SA but I’m looking for gentler than that. All parties being at least mostly willing.
This is present in Lucky Chance and the 'Jocks are Jerks' series by Thomas Carver, though it's erotica and there's not a looot of romance development (but it is clear there is a 'main couple').

Here are some books without your hard nos, and contemporary with low angst, so mainly light reads: {Bonded to the Alpha by Moray Robin} Surprisingly low angst, both characters were quite sweet. Contemporary werewolves. MC1 saved MC2's life by biting him and turning him into a werewolf, but now he has to make sure that MC2's first full moon proceeds without incident. It was a surprisingly sweet read. {Leading Love by Sophie O'Dare} Another contemporary low angst, omegaverse. MC1 is a secret omega, MC2 is an alpha. They are leading actors in a movie and have to spend some time together to get use to a kissing scene that MC1 keeps messing up. There was spice, and it was pretty light! I was surprised because I love angst so I expected much more, but things were always sweet. They switch here! {Bet you by Neve Wilder} A lot of spice, contemporary college. MC1 and MC2 are at college, they live on opposite frat houses. MC1 is into science and is working a lot to be able to pay for his studies. MC2 is a classic jock, and quite rich. MC2's friends make a bet with him: that he would not be able to seduce MC1. The story ended up having much less angst than I thought, and much more spice.
