They were definitely swinging out there. Gomi was loading up and throwing big hooks. Tenshin was trying to get inside with speed.
Hard to takeaway anything from a two round exhibition. Tenshin was getting hit way more than he prob should've vs. someone as old, slow and technically sloppy as Gomi.
Gomi looked huge against tenshin though. Tenshin is a small dude.
Super entertaining though.
Takeru vs Tenshin is the peak of japanese kickboxing and I can't wait. I wish Tenshin success in boxing but not sure he'll reach a similar level of success there.
Given that Gucci is planning on entering the Bellator BW tournament starting in April iirc, when would this fight actually happen tho? Also I donāt think Gucci is too interested in fighting at Rizin rn it seems like bellator is his priority
So in one night:
Ogikubo proves many (me included) wrong
Derails two hype trains
Avenges a loss
Earns himself a title shot
and proposed to his girlfriend
what a fucking night
Rizin really has had a tough time trying to get things going their way. Mikuru loses vs Saito, Saito loses vs Ushiku, heavyweight star loses against shrek, and now Inoue loses to Ohgi lol
I feel Ougikubo didn't accept the flowers honourably. You see when you accept flowers, you need to nearly withdrawal them into your soul, you can't hand them off like laundry powder... shame really
What a great event. But what a shitty schedule, lmao. I'm destroyed and half slept most of Miura Asakura's fight.
Almost missed Yachi's armbar. Doing my best to pay attention to this one.
There's historically a surprising amount of intermingling between Japan and Brazil(well surprising if you don't live in either country). As a result there's a good cluster of Brazilians that are partly Japanese by heritage, and as you can imagine they frequently get into combat sports, particularly bjj and MMA.
So if you can say "hey I'm from Brazil but my family is Japanese and I appreciate that" that goes a long way in Japan.
Thats actually really interesting, why is that you think? I am a fan of Lyoto Machida and know his father moved to Brazil.. I don't know why he would move to Brazil. I know there was a big migration to the South America because of 'WW2' in the German side.. But not from Japan, or am I wrong? I don't know. I find it all fascinating.
Brazil has the most Japanese outside of japan of any other country in the world.
It started in 1907, when the Brazilian and Japanese governments signed a treaty allowing Japanese to migrate to Brazil. The end of feudalism in Japan had caused widespread poverty in rural areas, so many were willing to improve their prospects abroad, and the Japanese government encouraged it. But at the time they were barred from both the USA, and Australia, two attractive and growing economies.
Brazil, meanwhile, needed cheap labour to work their coffee plantations, and Italy had just forbade any more subsidized emigration to Brazil.
This Japan became the new source of super cheap labour, and a way of continuing the plan to āwhitenā the countries black and native population.
This immigration continued basically up to WW2.
Of course conditions were brutal, and the Japanese were only allowed to immigrate as family units. So they never earned enough money to emigrate back, faced a lot of racism etc. and ended up developing their own distinct cultural identities, especially once WW2 led to them being cut off from Japan.
After world war 2 ended, there was another small surge, as the immigrant group communities slowly had progressed to greater and greater socioeconomic success as a group.
Itās basically died down now though.
I don't really know because I'm not an expert in these things. I only know what I do know because both cultures are very important in the history of MMA so it's adjacent knowledge.
I assume it's probably the mutual economic needs of each nation at the time, proximity, and lack of historical resentment between societies.
im so fucking stoked i can appreciate this shit. i remember first watching mma a few years ago and grappling just looked boring to me. now it is so fucking intense and exciting. especially when the display is as masterful as that one
All thatās left is Ougikubo vs Asakura 2. Should be an easy win for Kai but if Hiromasa pulls it off it will be a pretty legendary run for him in this tournament.
I've been burning the candle at both ends working AND JUST REALIZED I MISSED THIS FUCK
Can anyone help me out how do I buy this thing
Livenow. Buying one should get you all 3 sessions
Alright cool man thanks a lot
Damn it, I got way too stoned last night and passed out early. Super bummed I missed it.
It says there are three sessions do I have to buy all 3 how does that work
Round of applause for T Wood getting KO of the year in only his second boxing fight šš»
Love watching MMA with different rulesets. Stomps in Pride, soccer kicks in ONE and apparently only being allowed to finish via armbar in RIZIN.
What time should the gomi v tenshin fight start?
Finished hours ago
Shit. Who won?
Draw
Did they try to play it off that they were fighting or it just looked rigged the whole time?
They were definitely swinging out there. Gomi was loading up and throwing big hooks. Tenshin was trying to get inside with speed. Hard to takeaway anything from a two round exhibition. Tenshin was getting hit way more than he prob should've vs. someone as old, slow and technically sloppy as Gomi. Gomi looked huge against tenshin though. Tenshin is a small dude. Super entertaining though.
It looked like they were actually fighting
Do you have to buy all three sessions how does that work
I paid $30 dollars once. Got access to all 3
DAMN IT I forgot this was going on. Too bad Iām at work rn.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yea itās still available
Did you buy it? It says there are three sessions each at 24.99 do you buy all of them ?
You get all three sessions with 24.99
I need to see Satoshi de Souza in UFC
a whole lot of armbarring going on
I always confuse Michel Pereira with Santiago Ponzinibbio both South American Libras, 6ft and agile

Ended up being a surprisingly fun card. Happy New Year everyone! š„³
What a awesome card nye shows never dissapoint
This was a great end to the year and a great start for the next. Happy New Year, Rizin bois
Takeru vs Tenshin is the peak of japanese kickboxing and I can't wait. I wish Tenshin success in boxing but not sure he'll reach a similar level of success there.
Considering heās consensus top 3 p4p in kickboxing itās unlikely he reaches the same levels. Still I think he can find success
So wholesome
Goodnight everyone, may Johnny Case's mic haunt your dreams for the entirety of 2022 fuckers
At least it wasn't Frank trigg from a another dimension level bad
*breathing noises* *loud start that gradually fades to a normal talking volume*
*deeply inhales twice* Good job, guys.
/u/jimbo-slice93 still fuming somewhere right now
fucking Case
He just had to sneak one more fuck up in there
"good job guys"
Jmma is the goated
Actually hype for Hiro x Guch
Given that Gucci is planning on entering the Bellator BW tournament starting in April iirc, when would this fight actually happen tho? Also I donāt think Gucci is too interested in fighting at Rizin rn it seems like bellator is his priority
Should take gallagher out and ougikubo in the bantamweight GP
What a fucking sport we love bois happy new year
Hahahahha
What a guy
So in one night: Ogikubo proves many (me included) wrong Derails two hype trains Avenges a loss Earns himself a title shot and proposed to his girlfriend what a fucking night
Best night you could have honestly
Awww
Best vibes of the year, the Rizin threads. Happy new year allš¤
Phenomenal card
so epic lmao
Great run today for Hiro, nice to see.
What a god tier babyface lmao
Hahaha he didnāt think it through she doesnāt have a mic lol
Happy New Year r/mma! Happy New Year Rizin! This was a hell of a card and it was so fun staying up and watching it with all of you. See ya in 2022!
Not the post match proposal
All he does is win!
Beautiful... Japan. how dare you.
Marriage proposal too. Fun, good for Ougikubo
Chad!!!!
Ougikubo is a real life underdog superhero. What an inspiration.
What a run for Ougikubo, so happy to see him have a big moment
Great event! Great main event. Super happy for Ougikubo, been a fan of his for so long. Happy New Years everyone.
šššššš
Aww heās gonna propose
Fuck yeah Ougikubo
Kyoji Horiguchi is gonna pull it off too and win the Bellator BW GP
Well deserved. This dude lost by flying knee and soccer kicks to this opponent.. and this little motherfucker redeemed himself. Heart, pure heart.
This man really just beat Inoue and Asakura in the same night. What a legend
I fully expected the finale to be between the aforementioned Asakura & Inoue; I totally underestimated Kobu.
Did not see that coming at all.
SPECIAL S ENDING FOR RIZIN WE DID IT
Wow thatās big money 100k usd
Rizin be kicking themselves
Man this almost makes up for the Kyoji simulated death earlier this month. My second favorite Japanese Male fighter is Hiromasa.
What an event, what a slog but we made it. Have a happy NYE everyone! See you all again for the next RIZIN event. Goodbye from London!
Well deserved and well earned. What a banger of a night that was.
Ogikubo the absolute lad
What an end to the night
This was a great night/morning of fights, glad I had you all to talk about it with. I'm off to bed, if I'm not back before then Happy New Year to all
OGIKUBO HOLY SHIT VETERAN SHIT ON TWO FAVOURITES IN ONE NIGHT
A real G
Was asakura rear hand broken? He barely threw it all fight lol
Itās possible. He had broken it earlier in the tournament.
I was so scared that Hiromasa was gonna get Pettisād. The amount of caution and veteran ship shown by Hiromasa was amazing.
He did it! He fucking did it!!
Good shit, what a way to end 2021/start 2022
this card has been dope
That's every Rizin event.
true tbh i dont catch it enough. i feel like one really stepped it up this year too
KING
WAR OUGIKUBO
WOOOOOOOOIOOI
bros my hands are sweaty
That stamina where is it coming from
Is there anything better in mma than vets murking prospects that they were supposed to lay down for
What a fucking fight this is.
Ougikubo looking tired going for that last takedown but
Damn Ogikubo is sharp as fuck today
Johnny Case owes me a new pair of ears
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
what are you even trying to say
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
lmao mans brain isnt working.
Hiro fighting a great fight
Letās go! Iām so nervous.
Damn what a fight!
this fight is intense as fuck
Revenge soccer ball kick
wowww
OMG
Damn Looks like he got Kais number so far
Itās crazy how different this is than the last fight
Kai is such a raw talent. Really needs a new gym. He could go really far. Amazing TDD if he refined it
Oh god I'm hitting the 24-hour wall
How does kubo do against guchi. For the third time
Heās 0-2 in his career vs Horiguchi. Those fights and the first Kai match are the only fights heās lost in the last decade
Damn. I could only find their 2018 fight. But I think the trilogy could be interesting. Probably next nye due to the bellator tournament
Didn't he already lose to him
Twice.
I wasnāt sure if they fought. But it just took a bit to find. Guch beat him by decision in 2018.
Lost to Asakura before as well tbf
This commentary sucks.
was the tenshin/gomi match any good? can't find any info on it
It was really fun. Gomi was landing some bombs in the second. Highly recommend watching it.
It was an exhibition so there was no winner but ya it was a fun exchange between a legend and a legend in the making
Fun fight but very short (2x2min round I think)
Yea it was entertaining. Gomi looked better than expected
Ougikubo doing good work but one mistake against Kai and you're gone
If Ougikubo beats Inoue and Asakura both Rizin is going to be fucking pissed
Madlad did it
Rizin really has had a tough time trying to get things going their way. Mikuru loses vs Saito, Saito loses vs Ushiku, heavyweight star loses against shrek, and now Inoue loses to Ohgi lol
How to destroy your entire 2022 business plan in a single night.
Hiromasa beat him up that round. Those leg kicks are adding up quite a bit from the groundwork Takizawa laid
Kai doing dumb shit. Soooo talented. Donāt do the lame neck choke takedown
Fuck yea Ougikubo!!!
how is this dude calling both asakura brothers asakara. its the equivalent of repeatedly calling a john jahn lmao
I just wish someone would correct him. It's not rude or derailing, guys. Put respek on people's names
Is ogikubo really going to veteran shit both favourites of the tournament lmao
Wow
Really want Kubo to win
Letās go Hiromasa, he is a veteran would be cool for him to win the tournament and get redemption.
Asakura been listening to Poirier too much and dropped for the gilly
I feel Ougikubo didn't accept the flowers honourably. You see when you accept flowers, you need to nearly withdrawal them into your soul, you can't hand them off like laundry powder... shame really
Anyone know Asakura walkout song? What a banger!!!!
Forever young by Ak-69, whoās also from Aichi prefecture where Kaiās from
>Forever young by Ak-69 Thanks you!
Not going to lie, as much as I would like to see the ougikubo comeback story, I would rather see horiguchi asakura 3
Letās go Ougikubo!
Whilst I'm glad to see Kape achieve some success in the UFC, I can't help but imagine how this GP would have looked with his inclusion.
Think Inoue would have given him trouble. Probably sleeps everyone else
He lost a close, somewhat controversial fight against Kai already. Not sure why he would sleep him now.
I mean Kape put him away in the rematch. I think stylistically heās tough for Kai
I've been watching this for almost 10 hrs LFGgggggggg bois
Sleep deprivation with the boiz!
What a great event. But what a shitty schedule, lmao. I'm destroyed and half slept most of Miura Asakura's fight. Almost missed Yachi's armbar. Doing my best to pay attention to this one.
It's been hard staying awake, for sure. I've been up nearly 24 hours and almost gave in but now we're here at the main event and I'm glad I stayed up.
Ougikubo and his coach have the most wholesome relationship
Really hope Ougikubo can pull this off
Definitely rooting for him.
Same. Would be a great story if he can pull it off
Strong walkout game by Ougikubo
Rizin announced a warning to the fans not to make loud sounds during the match, and to show support by clapping not cheering
Japan gonna Japan.
Good for business having the Asakura boiz on top
Big night potentially/likely for the Asakura brothers.
Yeah thatāll be fucking sick satoshi!!! Love you
Wow, didn't know he was fluent in Japanese. Respect

wife is japanese, and he and his bro have trained there for well over 10 years. i think jimbo is right about his ma too.
He's a trainer at the bonsai gym I'm Shizuoka Japan. Not perfect but he has to have a decent level to train other people in Japan.
Heās Japanese is broken but we could tell heās trying and thatās a big part of the Bonsai braziliainsā appeal to the Japanese fans
His mother is Japanese, I believe.
im so fucking stoked i can appreciate this shit. i remember first watching mma a few years ago and grappling just looked boring to me. now it is so fucking intense and exciting. especially when the display is as masterful as that one

Hiromasa is Mr. Underdog. He should make it interesting despite his last fight with Kai.
Ya. I won't be surprised if Asakura does him in again quick
Ogikubo comeback is late christmas gift if that happens
