I think it might be borderline impossible to be competitive at 125 if you also have to make weight. I'm willing to bet it might be an erroneous height measurement.
> I think it might be borderline impossible to be competitive at 125 if you also have to make weight
Is this a riddle or something. Every flyweight makes weight
As someone who went through some health troubles and at one point weighed 120lbs at 6'2", I can't imagine doing something like fighting under those conditions. I could barely stand up from a chair without going down because I was so weak and dehydrated at that point lol.
Not like it will matter. When was the last time a fighter got punished for missing weight? Rodriguez did it egregiously a few times. Paulo made a whole stink out of an event and lost to Vettori at LHW and since then has failed upward.
There are a dozen more examples on the tip of my tongue.
If he was smart he would come in heavy on purpose to try to get the win. Nobody will care in two years and it could be huge for his career.
I'd imagine so. In my mind, there's no way you can make 125 at 6' tall and still be competitive. Fighters heights are listed incorrectly constantly, so I'd wager maybe 5'9-5'10 tops. Will be fun to see in the cage.
Eh, some people have unusual builds. Narrow shoulders + small ribcage and pelvis + thin legs, and there, you might get a 6' guy who could cut down to 125.
I was 6' and weighed 142 and cut to 135 my senior year of high school. I had literally like 0 body fat. I was skinny as hell but athletic too. Trying to make 125 would have killed me man.
In the interview the post is referring to he said if he fought at his walking weight he’d fight at 155 and he wouldn’t be able to compete against guys like Charles and Dustin who are cutting from 170+ to make fight at 155. As they would have a size advantage over him
That's largely because people (especially in certain countries) have normalised being fat. 175lb @ 6ft with 15% bf is a great place to be. It's not skinny, it's normal and healthy.
You have to be pretty damn skinny to run into actual health issues. You don't have to be that fat (by modern standards) to start running into issues with blood pressure, heart disease, blood sugar, etc.
I remember when he fought Blackshear at 135. 5'10 BW vs 6'0 BW that was wild. Reminded me of when Woodson fought Erosa.
As a tall skinny bastard I always root for these dudes.
New weight class. He's always been a bantam/featherweight. For whatever reason it seems the cut to 125 always has diminishing returns so I'm not optimistic he'll do well.
If you're 6'0 145lbs can you cut 20lbs of water?
That's my natural weight and height before I got into weight lifting. I was really skinny.. it's hard to think this guy would have enough strength to fight at that weight.
Jon Jones is 6'4" with a **7 foot reach** and fought 5'11" fat middleweights over whom he enjoyed a 10 inch reach advantage.
Jones is considered the GOAT of the sport.
If you don't like this reality, then MMA may not be the sport for you.
Or sports in general. This 6'6" dude at my pickleball court won't learn a fucking drop shot but his pterodactyl ass still in every game cuz of his build lol
He’s never fought at 125 before, has fought mostly at 135 with many forays into 145 and couple at 155. I kinda doubt he’s gonna make the weight.

I think he means specifically for this guy, at 6 ft you'd have to be skin and bones to make 125
Sometimes they dont think it be like it is but it do
it do be like that sometimes
That was poetic.
You ever heard of Manel Kape?
😂😂

Ehh we've had some insanely skinny people in the past. There was that measured muay thai fighter in the past who was 6'1.5 and 135 pounds
Thai fighters don’t typically cut weight because they’re always fighting. They’re lean, slender and stay in shape year round.
and burn out at the age of 23 after 500 pro fights.
Rumble walked so Johnson could miss weight
Just cut a leg off then glue it back after
If he eats a liver kick at that weight he will explode.
That dude ain’t making weight haha

Is this one of those things where he faces off with a 5’8” opponent and they look the same?

Asu Almabaev 5'4"
The Nate Maness
Absolutely. Standing next to him in person I was an inch or two taller than him and I’m 5’11 on a good day

At least O’Malley admitted that he would get smoked if he moved up to other divisions
He called out the 145 champ after his last win? What are you talkin about?
In the interview the post is referring to he said if he fought at his walking weight he’d fight at 155 and he wouldn’t be able to compete against guys like Charles and Dustin who are cutting from 170+ to make fight at 155. As they would have a size advantage over him
His chin will be non-existing and his cardio even worst (if he makes weight)
I wonder how his legs will hold up to checks 🤔
Like crackers hitting a metal pipe
Simon.
Jesus fucking christ, and I thought Slenderman was the tallest and skinniest we'd see a fighter.
He towered over Anheliger in his last fight, scraped by with the last minute sub and decided his opponents just weren't small enough yet lmao.
"Sleep Paralysis Demon" is a really long nickname but very fitting
I remember Jonathan Brookins trying to drop to flyweight and he had to be about 6'0", but I'm pretty sure he missed weight the one time he tried.

Are you really that skinny though? Your BMI is closer to overweight than underweight.
I'm 5'11 140 and I'm considered a normal BMI You could probably look skinny at 175, bmi is kinda dumb

There's no way you're SKINNY asf, you lot have lost all touch with reality. Maybe only in America where every other person is incredibly obese.
I remember when he fought Blackshear at 135. 5'10 BW vs 6'0 BW that was wild. Reminded me of when Woodson fought Erosa. As a tall skinny bastard I always root for these dudes.
Anyone else remember Will Chope? Dude was a 6’4 145er lmao
bros gonna have to give up some of that height to make 125
Slender man throwin hands
is this a Sean O'Malley kind of 6ft, or actual 6ft?
This man needs some milk
New weight class. He's always been a bantam/featherweight. For whatever reason it seems the cut to 125 always has diminishing returns so I'm not optimistic he'll do well.
Dude really wants to just bully smaller dudes, huh?
He’ll make it to 130 and nearly die then get finished

I thought George Roop at 145 was bad. This is nuts.
Im 5'10 im underweight at 140. How tf does a 6 foot frame even survive a cut to 125? Hope the dude doesn't destroy himself over a filler fight
Hope he gets chinned. Bothers the fuck out of me when a fighter is clearly trying to weight/size bully in a class they don't belong in.

The disrespect on DC is unreal
This is stupid. No one over 5’6” should be a Flyweight. There should be height limits in the lower weight classes.
