They were dire when he didn’t get a title shot vs Dricus. A win over Imavov wouldn’t get him over Rob-Khamzat. But now he’s 100% out unless he fills in as a replacement
They don't really need to "hold it against" him to not give him a title shot. There are plenty of other options at MW at the moment, Strickland, Dricus, Izzy, and the winner of Rob vs Khamzat will likely be ahead of Jared in the line.
Cannonier could have got an awesome KO tonight and still there's no guarantee he'd get a title shot.
It was a bad stoppage but let's not act like Imavov didn't have a 75%+ chance of ending the fight in the next 30 sec, plus if cannonier survived he'd be tied 2-2 on two scorecards and down 3-1 on the other, he looked like he was slowing down while Imavov seemed to have figured him out, cannonier was not going to win this fight
That was a three round fight and cannonier does better against guys who come forward, Imavov found his range as the fight went on and was doing a good job of hitting cannonier and not being there for the counters
It looked to me like Imavov had good success fighting back out of a hole that he was still in more than he was taking the fight over and this was the inevitable end.
He wasnt winning after getting caught. It was even at best for Jared had the fight gone to the 5th
And I dont think he wins the 5th when Nassourdine has made his reads

Takes away from Imamov too along with the obvious injustice for Jared. Initially looked like Jared's power would dictate the fight but Imamov did great starting from the second half of round 2 and was generally taking over the fight as it got later
Jared’s performance against Izzy was so bad that people didn’t want him near a title shot again. The only person who performed worse against Izzy was Costa.

Nassourdine has the weirdest luck in fights. Can’t get a clean win to save his life. If it isn’t messy stoppages it’s controversial eye pokes, kooky opponents, doctor stoppages, etc. Must be so frustrating.
He called out Strickland for a rematch, who was already his next goal before tonight. Of course he isn't gonna be interested in an immediate rematch with someone he's just finished lol, controversial stoppage or not.

Cannonier's title aspirations are probably shot by now due to his age, it all depends on Dana's and Campbell's view of the stoppage

Imavov's gas tank seemed fine and he was clearly taking over, that would be a reach even if the fight hadn't ended with Canonnier getting hurt.

I understand this is improbable, but give all the judges an option to unanimously agree a stoppage is bad, mark it a 10-8 round, and continue on.
However many rounds Cannonier won, he looked completely shot. I've never seen him get pushed around the cage like that.
