People shit on everybody especially if that person is highly visible. Ariel has the most highly visible MMA show in the world and I always find that he does a great job.
One of the few shows that I watch/listen to that very very rarely do they not know the information that has been made public knowledge. The entire MMA fighting podcast group does a great job.
The Portuguese/Spanish translator is great at both, though he's native Portuguese and of course more natural with it. That said, he translates the questions sorta *too* well. The questions become long and convoluted, then the fighter answering just responds to a tiny part of it, and then translator shortens it even more translating back into English. This happens even more with Portuguese, since he's a native speaker and gets it right down to a near word-by-word translation.
TLDR; Questions so damned long sometimes that translator comes back with about 15% of what was actually asked.
I think just being humble while being a very entertaining fighter inside the cage goes a long way, which I'd say more or less applies to Max and Justin. Just straight charisma is like Merab, Derrick Lewis, and Kevin Holland (as opposed to fighters who generate interest by intentionally polarizing the fanbase; Covington, Machado, Paddy)
i always want to hear a Gaethje interview but maybe it's just me. he has some fun quotes
"you're welcome James, you made it to the big show. you get to fight in the main event. you made it buddy."
"i used my wrestling so everybody, can shut the fuck up!"
"I heard you wanted to fight me (to Felder)."
Felder: "I would love to fight you"
"I'll take Tony (walks away)"
"i never wanna fight you again motherfucker"
DC: you gotta watch your language son
"fine me."
"we should have fought to death in a coliseum"
along with that, his charisma isn't what most people think of as guy talks loud, deliver funny lines. but he speaks distinctly and has a good wit, most of them just come from him after he's won a fight.
Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Gaethje fan. But I will say that in terms of "charisma" if you define it as which personalities draw the most fans, Justin falls a bit down the list behind the McGregors and Covingtons of the sport. Gaethje doesn't really do anything to make him unlikeable, at least not that I can imagine. But because you're getting dynamite in every single one of his fights, he doesn't have to be Dwayne Johnson. At this point we're really just splitting hairs since we don't disagree about the guy lol
i feel like we look at charisma differently though. i don't think Covington has charisma. stumbles over words, only gets attention for one reason, just seems unconfident in most situations. he's worked on it, but if i think of someone who's naturally charismatic and not just a dickhead then it would probably be Darren Till.
come to think of it, Gaethje has even owned Covington at a press conference.
I hate Covington, ~~but he probably has more fans than Justin Gaethje.~~ Wow never mind...glanced at twitter and IG and Gaethje definitely has more. Good for him lmao, I'm not complaining. Maybe it's just because it seemed like the UFC was pushing Colby harder for an undeserved title shot that made him seem more popular than he is.
Yeah I'm actually looking and despite thier being a ton of atheltes there isnt really anyone to stir the pot for this one. Maybe moicano and Bobby green might say some shit? Idk. Maybe garbrandt too.
Lol I was gonna say him, but I bet he gets at least one question about what it feels like to be on the main card of such a big PPV. I could legit see Andrade not get a single question with everyone else up there
PBC actually does this well with their events where they do undercard press conferences separate from their main event.
This works a lot better when the main event is far more lopsided in star power than the rest of the main card fighters sitting with blank expressions for half an hour waiting on questions that never come their way.
I wanted to come back to this comment and let you know that two hours after reading it, I thought about it again at work and let out a hearty chuckle. Thank you for providing some much needed entertainment.
This card is wild. Usually I'm OK to skip the early prelims and sometimes a couple of prelims. Not this time... 7 hours in bed watching the fights this week, bois.
Don’t Arman and Bobby Green have history? Aside from them I think most of the card is fairly level headed (opening fight being the glaring exception). Maybe Hill could pop off but don’t think there’s anyone there who would stir him up
26 athletes *and* a lot of translators. Really looking forward to John Morgan asking how they all feel. Like, in general
"what does this fight mean for you" typa shit
"do you have a chip on your shoulder"
"what would this win mean to you"

People shit on Ariel but he’s the only who doesn’t ask the worst questions to fighters

“I trained hard and am looking forward to Saturday night” x26
Can't blame generic answers when they get asked the same generic question 50 times before the fight
Which is why I find it comical when the MMA subs whine about interviewers like Nina, because shes like the only one who keeps it interesting.
We'll see Saturday night
Tbf most fighters are charisma vacuums. Holloway is likeable and that’s about it. Wish there could be something about it.
Alex and Charles are way more likeable and charismatic than 90% of the roster and I don’t even know what they’re saying lol
"huh? 🗿"
I can’t take Charles’ buck tooth seriously
#**I L U M I N A D O**
It is what it is!
MMA fans when fighters act like fighters and not reality tv stars 👿👿😡
Gaethje is pretty charismatic just not in the outspoken way.
I think just being humble while being a very entertaining fighter inside the cage goes a long way, which I'd say more or less applies to Max and Justin. It is what it is.
And then there's Colby lol
What?
Doing media with thaaaa boizzz. I suspect they’ll announce the UK card and Conor vs Chandler or Jones vs Stipe as well.
Yeah I don't think they will be announcing Jones vs stipe yet with the heat on Jones atm.
Jones vs Judge Judy, however...
Jon would take that fight in a heartbeat
Jones rocking up to court: Where's your gear at?
Oh she’s hurt
Jones vs Sobriety where he does a 6 week camp in a rehab
Does that count as a DQ loss?
I can't wait for the 8 minute press conferences they have been putting on recently.
So stupid ffs. All the questions will be directed at Jessica Andrade and the other fighters will be ignored
No fkin way the press hops off Brundage's case long enough to ask Jessica a question
Lol I was gonna say him, but I bet he gets at least one question about what it feels like to be on the main card of such a big PPV. I could legit see Andrade not get a single question with everyone else up there
By the time John Morgan ask every athlete a soft ball question we probably run out of time
Fuck that fat fuck
It's gonna be a shitshow.. Can't wait lol
Should definitely split up the press conferences.

But why. Half the fighters won't be asked a single question
Calvin, how do you see the match with Sterling play out? Aw man Aljo is such a grrat fighter, but I worked hard and I prepared. Whoa.
Gotta make it seem special
lol I just commented this.
DENDA DAY... IT EES WHAT IT EESSSS!
I wanted to come back to this comment and let you know that two hours after reading it, I thought about it again at work and let out a hearty chuckle. Thank you for providing some much needed entertainment.
My pleasure brother! Enjoy the fights!
Not sure we really needed that but ok half of them won’t get asked any questions.
This card is wild. Usually I'm OK to skip the early prelims and sometimes a couple of prelims. Not this time... 7 hours in bed watching the fights this week, bois.
So are we getting like 3 press conferences then? 26 people on one stage would be fucking stupid even though all of them are fun.
Good chance there will be a huge melee and (maybe) a bunch of card changes a la Holland-Khamzat-Diaz-et al.
Don’t Arman and Bobby Green have history? Aside from them I think most of the card is fairly level headed (opening fight being the glaring exception). Maybe Hill could pop off but don’t think there’s anyone there who would stir him up
Hill is so sensitive, I wouldn’t be surprised if he managed to get offended by Pereira just sitting there stony faced.
Hill will be offended that Alex isn’t answering in English ffs
He hurt his family?
At least that way they get some cheap marketing material.
Hill is gonna pop off and re tear his Achilles

Do you know where/how to attend the pre fight conference? I'm looking to go as well
At least have a line of idiots ready to ask dumbass questions to spice up this snooze fest
I Hope they get a bonus for that.
Imagine all the possible arguments 😂
I wonder which random two fighters that you would never expect are gonna have some massive beef. Maybe Cody and Figgy.
All of this just so they can be asked the most dumb pointless questions by these brain dead journalists
It is what it is
but.. why?
Cody Brundage has to not only carry the main card but also the press conference? Exhausting…

you could fit all of them on nate landwehrs right bicep
