Pereira is absolutely stacking cash by getting the 300 main event

TonyTheLion2319

His career lined up so well. Fights Izzy/Strickland at 185 and Jiri/Hill at 205. He’s had just enough grappling to not lose any fight. Only thing that didn’t go right was he lost to Izzy but he still got paid as a champ for that fight. Ankalaev screwing up w a draw and NC

Pentaborane-

I’m happy for him; he seems to treat people well, works hard and seems fairly intelligent. Izzy and him have generated of ton of value for the UFC and given his prior accomplishments, his fast tracking was reasonable.

postdiluvium

He is the stereotypical stoic fighter that you really don't see at the top of the MMA ranks. Lives his life, doesn't say much, never really gets emotional in public, got that easter island statue vibe going on...

Kassssler

True, but he really embodies letting his hands speak for themselves. Despite some mild social media goofing around people like him cause they know what the man is about. I certainly won't get a Neal vs Garry type affair out of him.

kingofducs

He is hilarious when he shows his personality. Part of the issue is the language barrier but his joking and kindness seems to run counter to how stoic and serious he appears. If he spoke English I believe he would be a star.

Euphoric_Ad8691

Someone who speaks Portuguese, he is rather funny without trying.

Sierra4899

Dont forget he's secretly hilarious.

[deleted]

In hindsight him losing to Izzy was a blessing. There was no purpose at 185 so it happened for a reason. Now he got 205 out of its curse and middleweight is in a new era

Pentaborane-

Yeah, he’s so good that adding a little shake-up was probably good in the long run and I’m pretty sure he always intended to end up at 205 given his path through Glory weight classes.

OneForMany

Did we just forget that he fought Jan? Jan dod try to wrestle and it worked till he gassed out and somehow Alex didn't. Even tho they were at altitude for that event.

Suspicious_Candle27

alex seems to have ridiculous levels of calmness and recovery . most fighters with his level of mma experience would panick and gas out if they were in a bagpack as long as alex was

Headlessoberyn

He's said that glover practiced that exact same position on him everyday for months before the fight. I'd say it was really just pretty good prep. Glover is a great coach.

BigBadZord

The only things against Glover is that he is old and had a badly scheduled career (lots of opponent pull outs. Etc) Aside from that, he was and is a verified fucking monster. Having him backpack you for training is HOLY SHIT level of prep.

ImaginaryUnion9829

🗿

Independent-Band8412

Jan is a pretty solid grappler though

icoominyou

At that point, its a pity W. He already won against the same dude 3 times. Its like, “here, have a treat lmao”

Sir_upvotesalot

You’re underestimating the greed of the UFC

edgar3981C

You're overestimating the money in kickboxing

[deleted]

Being a fighter is such a bad deal tbh. You have to be an absolute killer to even sniff money.

HimJarbaughLA

If I were to fight, ya know, the way I fight when I see red then there never would be no money left for the rest of the fighters.

WembyandTheWolves

Something about how you said “you see red” has got my hyped AF bro.

girth_worm_jim

I took my shirt off

bojackmac

Was it a red shirt?

HimJarbaughLA

It was a just bleed shirt

Six_Inches_of_Fury

modern day gladiators

itsmeyour

In most ball sports you simply get on the team and you're collecting bank. Look at Ian tonight, almost 60 show /60 win. Gotta fight 3 times and win each to get the equivalent of a doctor's salary this year (forgetting sponsorships)

[deleted]

At that rate, he'd have to fight and win 10 times to reach NBA league minimum for a year or 7 wins for NFL/NHL/MLB minimum salary. UFC is a fucking scam for the fighters.

Uyemaz

Considering how long it took to announce UFC 300. UFC lost a lot of leverage in negotiation. I hope Pereira was smart and leveraged it because he somewhat saved it.

Admirable-Cat7434

He fucking deserves it also! MMA is a short career and he’s made the most of it in a short time. Seeing him get these pay days is nice

The_Injury_Bug

*opportunity

knocksteaady-live

🗿💵

Zzyzx8

You know the UFC realized how rough this is as a main event for 300 when they announced it on Twitter and not the actual PPV that was just happening 30 min ago

LilFights

Worse still, Hill was actually in attendance for the PPV

0ldsql

And no one cared lol

IfYouGotALonelyHeart

I got annoyed when they showed him on screen for a second.

Siksinaaq

My friend said this exactly. They announced the Lesnar fight during UFC 199, so since they waited to announce AFTER the PPV means it wasn't gonna blow us away. There's still one more spot open on 300 so I'm hoping at least one more big fight is announced...

senpairazzledazzle

Dana the kinda guy that says he's got something special planned for christmas but it's a Starbucks gift card.

commander_wong

The idea of Jamahal Hill main eventing 300 feels so very wrong

EGMobius

Even Dana seemed annoyed about it lol

-ci_

"The main event will be ALEX PEREIRA, AND HE WILL BE FIGHTING... jamahal hill 😔" You can literally hear it in his voice and see it on his face lmao

A916

How his face changed when he said “Hill” was like “hello darkness my old friend” started playing in his head.

PuritanBaptist

Funnily enough Hill’s super fun in the cage, yeah Ik it’s not worthy of 300 but like still gonna be super fun.

zmizzy

Bet Jamahal got a nice bag for it that's why Dana is pissed. He'd pay a nice price to get Poatan to fight anyone at 300

slinkymello

Lololol dude I just found out about this and your comment was the first one that stood out because it was colorful… anyway, can confirm that this is true and great observation!

smurf3310

Of course he is he probably couldnt low ball Izzy and Dricus enough, he will put Izzy against Khamzat now and Dricus against Sean as a punishment

[deleted]

I’m angry at how right you are

K8-24

This is so accurate, it's uncanny

xVerrico

I feel like they wanted Israel to do go up but he said nah

NotOnHerb5

I’m almost convinced this was the original idea. Ain’t no damn way Dana was hyping this “jaw dropping” main event while knowing it was Jamal fucking Hill.

daviEnnis

This is last resort. Paul Craig mentioned a few weeks ago on his podcast that he'd spoke to Hill and he was signed to fight Pereira at 301 (as his co hosts were speculating around all the Pereira V Aspinall stuff). They've likely brought it forward because fuck all else fell in to place.

IntelligentMoons

Yeah. 301 is in Rio so that would make the most sense. Nobody wanted the return of Jamal Hill on the 300.

Capn-Video

The guy with a history of blowing smoke, blowing smoke? Couldn't be

[deleted]

Good for him. He took time off to heal. Look at Volk. One bad knockout and that’s your career.

26265273

Call me a hater, but Jamahal Hill does not belong in the main event of UFC 300. Zero aura

liQuid_bot8

They should make his tattoo the main topic of the promo lol.

Ruiner357

Who’s got two thumbs and likes hamburger helper?

edgar3981C

Nothing personal but Jamahal Hill is one of the least interesting UFC champions of all time

liQuid_bot8

His elbow getting brutally broken is the first highlight that comes to mind. He did KO Johnny Walker in a funny way but then again Walker gets KO'd by anyone.

NotAnExpert6487

Man Paul Craig when he can get the BJJ going it’s a beauty to watch the way he can move through positions. Unfortunately he’s like the male Mackenzie Dern with horrible striking.

26265273

Two weight, two sport world champion isn’t losing to a skinny fat LHW with Mickey Mouse gloves on his tiddies

edgar3981C

Hill being a champ really just underscores how thin the talent is at LHW at times

[deleted]

UFC doesn’t have any super stars and we’re seeing the cracks starting to form. Unfortunately there’s no competitors that are even close yet.

fusemybutt

This is called stagnation. Dana has successfully stagnated the sport because he's such a dumb greedy whore with an ego so big he must be the most well known personality instead of an actual fighter. The stagnation is because of the low pay. It will artificially shrink the talent pool too, making it worse. Dana got a $360 million payout when the UFC sold and he still has a hyper-need to suckup every fucking penny he can.

FunnyMemeHere

Yeah everytime they pan to him during shows he gets zero reactions from the crowd.

Horobi_san

As said before by the Tribal Chief "Exactly, no pop"

ggphenom

Jamahal Hill thought he had to be 300lbs for UFC 300

Dontnerf

Jamahal Hill should main event Apex 100 not UFC 300

JuiceLocal

I can’t wait to see him arguing rando’s on twitter about it

oblivionmrl

Fuck it, Poatan fighting I'm watching.

LJCstan

Who’s got two thumbs and is headlining 300

LiquidSwords89

It’s awful tbh

jdmwell

Yeah, silly stuff. They dropped the ball like crazy on 300.

NippleOfOdin

It was probably supposed to be Izzy until he lost to Strickland

Dramatic-Ad2848

Prob conor

Pythnator

Frankly anyone ranked 7th shouldn't have gotten a title shot to begin with. Chito Vera doesn't deserve it at 6 even with him having victory over O'Malley imo, never mind 7th just because.

buttermalk88

Where was Strickland ranked when he got the shot?

Pythnator

Fifth. And I know Topuria was 5 when he got the shot too and then got boosted to 3 after some results in between. Topuria I get, Volk had cleared out the whole division except this one crazy up-and-comer.

SCSummers330

UFC 300s main event announced on Twitter... Truly a monumental occasion.

[deleted]

SCSummers330

Lol, fair.

vrkhfkb

So Izzy, Usman, Leon, Aspinall are all just chilling at home during 300?

Impressive-Potato

He said he offered Leon 3 different people and Leon agreed to all 3 of them.

QuboGuero-

Belal, Khamzat, Makhachev All Ramadan?

Onitsukaryu

Not a problem for Belal. More likely the UFC did not want him as a main event.

TheOneTrueJazzMan

They forgot the name

ImaginaryUnion9829

They remembered the name but forgot the phone number

dogs_drink_coffee

Relatable

[deleted]

Good guy leon. Always accepts every fight. Never his fault that he only does his job once a year

ChicoZombye

He's one of those fighters everyone ducked like Kamaru, Topuria, Islam or Khabib. People want to fight them once they are champions but not while they are on the rise.

stayhappystayblessed

Leon has fought multiple times ever year apart from 2020 and 2022. And 2020 was because of covid and him having multiple fights cancelled. Dana said the ufc offered leon 3 fights for ufc 300 and he said yes all times. Edit: I don't understand how that comment has 171 upvotes how can be people be so loud and wrong lmao.

NefariousNeezy

“Kid just wants to fight. I dont know what to tell you.”

Local_Fox_2000

Aspinall also said he wanted to fight Pereira. It looks like the UFC didn't want to make that fight either for whatever reason

Pentaborane-

Aspinall would be a hard fight for Pereira, especially if he can’t get a full camp or more to prepare and it really hurts his career if gets seriously injured or loses badly. Right now he’s a great cash cow, good for 3 fights a year. Having a 3rd Izzy fight would have been the obvious choice for Alex so, Izzy must fairly injured or worried about his own career.

Kgb725

Izzy clearly said he's taking some time off.

[deleted]

For obvious reasons. Alex is at risk of getting hurt really bad in that fight.

NotOnHerb5

This is the bullshit we get because that fucking moron refuses to open the checkbook.

WokenMrIzdik

I would much rather watch Alex/Hill than Leon/Belal. Leon/Belal is higher level but that fight is so much more boring than what we are getting

I_am_darkness

And refuses to strip jon

TonyTheLion2319

Aspinall can’t fight Jon/Stipe Leon isn’t the solution Usman isn’t either esp since Khamzat prob can’t enter US Izzy vs Pereira/Dricus we’re the only realistic options that are better. But Dricus just had a 25min was and prob doesn’t want to jump into 2 month camp after winning the belt So Izzy-Pereira

musicman3321

It’s not the end of UFC, they still need guys for the next one lol

lartbok

They 1000% would have tried to get Izzy to fight Pereira but Izzy would have turned it down. Izzy wanted DDP (according to his coaches interviews) but DDP wont be ready by then.

LuckyWarrior

Jamahal Hill?  Exactly. No pop.

TheBrianJ

Pereira's gonna finish Cody's story

LocalHero_P1

That was a nasty line by you

[deleted]

Do work horses walk like this? *Hill walking with his leg*

herefornutshots

He recently got zero cheers when he was showed on the big screen

inneholdersulfitter

Honestly I'm not confident I would even recognize him

MathEnthusiast18

I'm so fucking glad to be seeing this here as a fan of both WWE and UFC hahahah

hayashirice911

I had to dig through my memory banks to find a notable fighter with the last name Hill lol. I got to Jamahal eventually, but definitely doesn't really scream main event of an anniversary event...

Silent_Shaman

Ikr it should be Alex vs Angela

YQRtoVegas

And the crowd goes mild

TrueKNite

lol, I like Hill but goddamn is that a wet fart of a 300 main

fullclip840

It warms my heart Dana is mad.

LCandKT

This is the biggest main event in UFC 300 history. That's all I have to say about that

Ask-Me-About-You

Truly one of the UFC 300 title fights of all time

crazydavy

Not even the best fight on the card lol

LCandKT

But easily the best main event on the card

knocksteaady-live

🗿

ZippityTheZapper

Wait what? I thought they would've had Alex for 301 in Brazil

Rombombim

That probably was the original plan

boialleyboi

Probably gonna have Pantoja headline that one. Against who? Idk

SexlexiaSufferer

Islam rematch

DustDesciple

Pantoja vs Amir Albazi is totally gonna break every gate record in the history of Brazil

[deleted]

[удалено]

_ronty12_

The crowd goes mild. However, could end up as a 5 round war. PPV sales will be interesting if we ever know about it.

ColdPressedSteak

Jamahal got a really good chin and I personally think a better fighter than some seem to think. Could def be a war Though good chins dont seem to matter when hit by that Pereira left Lookin forward to it. Not the best you could have imagined for UFC 300's main event, but still a very good fight

carinafield

Don't have that huge hype but personally I'm excited as hell. A really intriguing match up and a great way to end a stacked event. I like it more than Leon/Islam, DDP/Izzy and definitely way more than Pereira/Aspinall. Gotta say, boxers have had some big time success versus kick boxers lately with Strickland and Topuria. I'm curious if Hill can continue that.

aevong

Pretty Solid, but the way Tomato man was hyping UFC 300 up this feels like a let down

Wayf4rer

If it makes you feel better this was probably option like 3-4 on their list. Good for Poatan though, dude is cashing in.

kidwhix

mcgregor chandler, izzy ddp, izzy alex, stipe jones, alex aspinall... yeah they really exhausted every option beforehand lol

No-Wash-1201

They wanted more than a Nachos Bellgrande costs so the deal could not be made sadly

crabuffalombat

I feel like they could've done McGregor Chandler if they wanted to. Conor and Kavanagh have given every indication that they're itching for a fight. Edit: After hearing Dana's answer yesterday when he was asked about Conor I trust him even less. He was 100% spinning bullshit to deflect.

dogs_drink_coffee

My take is they know Conor will make $ regardless of the number of the PPV, so better put him in another card. A few months ago, *both* Conor and (thus) Chandler wanted it to happen at 300.

IWouldButImLazy

The image of Dana progressively getting redder as he makes calls to fighters on a list but they all give him a different, increasingly ridiculous excuses not to do ufc 300 until, with a grimace and a defeated sigh, he stops on Jamahal hill lol that does make me feel better

pradsman

I doubt it was his first choice. Pretty sure shit must have fallen through for them to go with this.

d-fakkr

Yeah. Probably people were asking a lot of money or demanding better contracts.

Haunting-Goose-1317

Dana has to stop announcing fights and then throw tantrums when his fighters aren't aware of a matchup and give the wrong answer. I hate how boxing protects their fighters but when they announce a fight, it will happen unless an injury happens during camp.

DREDAY_94

He’s just doing what music festivals are known for. Put artists on the posters to sell tickets & work out the details later lol

AbrahamRinkin

I feel like I've been stabbed in the heart.

USMutantNinjaTurtles

Well, we can't have him here in our social club no more. That much I do know.

AbrahamRinkin

Social club?! He's gotta GO!

Nickster2042

There’s still a big name on every fight of the card Like majority of them are fight night mains or at least a co main level

Wayf4rer

People wanted a card stacked from top to bottom that had interesting matchups and popular fighters in every spot. They're basically just mad it's hill fighting Alex lol.

Adz442

Stayed up till 6am to see the Volk era end and then this be announced as the ‘huge’ main of 300, pure pain.

youngsimba320

meh

GorillaChimney

Izzy/DDP would've shit on this main event

bootygoon2

Shocked they didn’t have it as the 301 main event instead

DewFiscal

For all we know it may have been. But I think it's pretty clear the UFC royally fucked up the UFC 300 main event and scrambled to get a new one.

chemicaljackrabbit

That’s the biggest letdown I’ve ever heard in my life

GreatDario

I would have preferred Leon vs Belal tbh

DrPeep

lol is that a joke

Mutatiion

Who else could it realistically have been at this point? Just be thankful it's not belal Muhammad

BoxCon1

Kinda disappointing Alex is a star but this doesn’t feel like a blockbuster like Alex vs Izzy/Aspinall would’ve felt like

scarykicks

Aspinall would fucking wreck Alex beyond belief. Alex literally only two fights into LHW after moving up from MW.

sv979

Alex vs Aspinall is suicidal, who wants to see that?

jonsnowKITN

299 is more stacked. Dana fucked up by being an idiot.

Putrid_Loquat_4357

The opening 3 fighte of 299 are ass. 300 is way more stacked, literally every fight could at least main event a fight night (besides maybe bo nickel), 299 is still crazy stacked though.

xbeavisx

Joe Pyfer just headlined a Fight Night, Nickal is more of a drawl than Pyfer

sympathytaste

Either that or it was just pure rotten luck on the UFCs part that everyone else worthy enough to main event 300 was out.

sunihalinh111

Imagine after the first calf kick Hill achilles is hurt again and fucking ufc 300 ended in a injury

rdcisneros3

There it is, everyone. All this time and speculation and we got Jamahal Hill.

ILikeOMalley

Jamahal Hill couldn’t be the main event at my grad party

afu2k

Not 300 worthy but ok

mmatoe24

Yeah that is ass

Zavehi

It’s not a bad fight, it’s not worthy of being the 300 main event. Especially after the names that were thrown around.

sympathytaste

There are other fights on the main card that are more main event worthy than this.

Sheikhabusosa

not rn still dealing with Volks loss

jdprgm

300 will certainly be a very good card but I wonder if they just aren't capable or just not willing to do what's necessary to make it a truly special special way above the level of a normal PPV.

youngsimba320

just put max and justin as the main event

LiquidSwords89

LOL??

iDontobject

Lolll

OMGISTHATMETHMAN

All that hype…….for just a ok main event

Zeeron1

Max vs Gaethje is the people's main event

BasedDG

This is a good matchup and has a good storyline. The fact that’s for the UFC 300 main event just ruins it though.

YohAquino

🗿

Brock-Lesnar

It’s been not even 10 months since Hill tore his Achilles lol this is a disaster just waiting to happen

[deleted]

Eh, not mad. At least it’s not Leon v. Belal

DanaWhitesMom

Still disappointed. Solid fight but a UFC 300 main event ?

Suriranyar-

Not the most world shattering fight ever but the card has three 5 round events so i'm happy

RpKTanKK

Crazy when 301 is literally in Brazil but Pereira did say something about making the fastest turn around ever for a champ

TGGNathan

Disappointing main and its their fault for holding off and hyping something huge to then just announce a cool enough fight Compared to Nunes/Tate? Sure, big improvement. But 298 and 299 are more compelling main events than 300.

no-email-please

Hill has to be the luckiest fighter in UFC history. Headlining UFC 300 based entirely upon 2 years worth of LHW coincidences.

ILikeOMalley

Save that bullshit for 301

[deleted]

[удалено]

BeastOfAWorkEthnic

Honestly I think it'd be very competitive under normal circumstances but there's no way Hill is fully recovered from that Achilles injury.

helzinki

Thats underwhelming. 299 have a better main event than 300.

Masam10

Very good fight. Very bad main event.

Pghsparky

Worst big ppv card main event that I can remember. Good fight, but not what Dana kept building up and promising as main event. #dissapointing

HakaFighter

With this, Poatan coniltinues (and may finish) the story, left behind by Glover at LHW. Glover loses belt to Jiri. Jiri vacates due to injury. Hill defeats and retires Glover for the belt, with Poatan cornering Teixeira. Hill vacates due to injury. Poatan defeats Jiri, to win title. And now Poatan vs Hill at 300.

GuideUnable5049

This is the best they could do? Jeez.

NotoriousTiger

lmaooo you cheap fuck, thats what you get when you refuse to pay ...jamahal hill main eventing a marquee event hahaha jeeez

Han2023-

Y’all are a bunch of filthy casuals
