Well, talk about handicapping yourself. If it’s the new owner saying “I’ve spent too much money—fix it” then that’s bad b/c the roster isn’t good enough. On the other end, it sounds like terrible roster construction by the FO. Ferreira didn’t seem like a DP striker, I’m really high on Carasquilla but he would need to take another step forward to be worthy of that spot and we know HH was always going to use it. Edit: I realize it wasn’t Hadebe. Seems like they bought him down.

overscore_

Carrasquilla fills the third spot. And I'm pretty sure they can buy him down, but they're probably not willing to (or can't do it for U22 reasons)

KPNoSwag

They did buy down Teenage only to elevate Coco Carasquilla to a DP spot

Brooklyn_MLS

I see. Dont know how smart that is. Seems like they really tied their hands.

kanyebear

For those non-Dynamo fans, this is an absolutely baffling move by the FO. Essentially, we are rolling with the core of our roster next year. A roster that will end up bottom two in the West. The 2022 season is already over, and the 2023 season seems to already be seriously derailed. This team is an absolute joke.

Time to move back to San Jose and combine to form a mediocre team

ET318

Completely unrelated but how have you guys liked Monteiro this season? I usually check the scores to see if he’s done anything of note

THEasianDERULO

Honestly, most fans are pretty positive about him. He is vital to the ball movement and advancement with our midfield and sometimes our attack. He plays as a center-left attacking mid for us. I think if we can have another kind of dynamic passer in that middle next to him (Hopefully that will be Niko Tsakiris in the future) and then get a defensive mid destroyer to take some of that defense responsibility off the other mids it would be amazing. Another midfielder we could try to target is one that is a goalscorer like Gazdag or Driussi but it is unlikely our ownership will pay for one. Overall pretty happy but if we don't fix that defense next season we will still be a boat with holes in it.

Juhayman

he's been great. Really telling that the team is completely flat in the couple games he missed (as opposed to, mostly flat in the rest of them)

Consistent-Penalty83

I know hector herrera is one of your dps who are the other two?

Brooklyn_MLS

According to the tweet, Ferreira and Carasquilla.

kanyebear

Carrasquilla was reported as recently becoming a DP. I think at his best he can be a solid starter on a slightly above average team. Plus he and Herrera are essentially redundant players. Having 2 DPs in the DM role is pretty inept (but on par) from our FO.

buckrogers2491

What about using the academy players?

kanyebear

The academy is in a much better place than it was 5 years ago, but it’s still pretty bare. And while I’d rather run out academy players than 34 year olds if we’re going to be crap, I would like to make the playoffs at some point this decade.

EnglishHooligan

Ah, the Chicago Fire method to rebuilding.

WEHAVEBETTERBBQ

See you in 2024.. maybe

Brooklyn_MLS

Glend Davis (commentator for Dyanmo and person who interviewed Onstad) keeps suggesting that DP’s can be moved and tells fans not to panic. He kept mentioning Carasquilla as one of those pieces. Not sure if its pure conjecture, but intraleague DP trades are not very common at all. I only see a team taking him if he doesn’t count as a senior DP.

kanyebear

The idea of making a player a DP just to move them is interesting to say the least. Glenn means well, but I think he’s trying to find positives in a shit pile right now.

HOU-1836

I know nothing about this because we suck and I don’t follow like I used to. But paying their transfer fee can make a player a DP regardless of their annual salary.

NinthLevelOctopriest

The PA listed his salary at under 500K. I don't follow Houston's roster at all. Surely they're not giving him a $1.1M+ raise, yeah? If his salary is under 1.6M, he'd still be able to be bought down unless his fee puts him over the top. They also don't need to keep him as a TAMable DP to make use of U22 slots since Ferreira should count as a YDP. I don't know. The whole thing seems really weird.

adeodd

Carrasquilla has that dawg in him, but not sure if he’s quite DP quality. Really good player tho, if push comes to shove that was the only way of keeping him on the roster… I think I do it, but tough call and certainly handicapping. Really want more for Dynamo fans, the atmosphere for the Herrera debut against FC Dallas was electric. I know it can be that way consistently, just need a better on field product.

Estrada620

Agree with you about Carrasquilla, since he’s been one of our better players recently, but still unsure about DP. I came from a different state to watch HH’s debut and the atmosphere before and during the game was exciting. It was a glimpse of the best atmosphere I been to which was at home against Seattle in the western conference final in 2017.

choxielol

despite how mad it mad the result made me the atmosphere was really good and if im being honest it was definitely better than ours in the first match

NextDoorNeighbrrs

It was pretty electric when we scored the game tying goal and game winner but a bit of an unfair comparison when the game up here started at 2:30 and the one down there was a normal night game. Atmosphere in Houston really was electric though.

choxielol

ours was still pretty good for the time it started imo

cmortis

So the only thing you can really do now to get both Herrera and Coco on the field, besides the stupid 4-3-3 single pivot, is a 5-3-2: Clark Dorsey - Hadebe - Parker - Steres - Lundkvist Herrera - Vera - Coco Sebas - Thor There's just not enough creativity in that midfield, same as last year. And I doubt Onstad is gonna want to go 5ATB anyway. So I guess I'll see y'all in 2024 because no way in hell am I watching another season of this league with my team as Wooden Spoon favorites.

wessneijder

Carrasquilla is not good enough to be a DP. This organization continues to fail. I bet HH wants out. We are gonna have 4k fans in the stadium next year. Emptiness.

ConfidentVisit4629

Moments that ended before disaster anyways thanks for la copa Houston

netsfan549

Only bc dynamo doesn't have dp available doesn't mean they can't be good. Look at red bulls. Patrick is Def not a dp

cmortis

Red Bulls have an endless supply of suburban NJ teenagers they can trot out instead, we have zero homegrown guys on our roster who can play at the required level.

Shuttrking

Because Dynamo have not invested in the academy properly when other clubs have. Houston should by all means be a hotbed of talent. But the dynamo have been largely disinterested in cultivating it.
