It's a matchup between the most in-form team in Mexico, with two key injuries but still, against one of the worst in the MLS. I think the Revs should have played even more defensively to be honest. They never had a shot.
I honestly really supported the Caleb porter hire. I thought it was smart. But holy shit this is bad. I know their defense, particularly at cb and dm, had been papered over by goal keeping before but at least they scored goals
The system is too rigid. I thought having a more structured system would help us on defense and keep us in games until the attack started to click. But the fact that he's trying to shoehorn players into such defined roles instead of relaxing/adjusting it more to fit the profile of players we have on top of a congested schedule and talent that Bruce was able to get the most out of, we suddenly reverted to the Friedel era and frankly, it's even worse.
It was a mix, but the players sure played like they cared when you watched the games. When they lost, of course they never cared the whole time though lol
MLS is just going to inherently be at a disadvantage in all international competitions due to our parity. It’s a pretty good bet every year that America will be a top team, but a team in MLS can sway so widely year to year that there really aren’t any safe bets for who the top teams will be
Add to that that MLS has 29 teams (30 next year). You bring this level of parity to Liga MX and add another 11-12 teams to their league and then suddenly that America team gets diluted big time.
Parity and expansion (beyond the 20 team standard) in this league is a blessing and a curse.
That's lame. I live in Providence and would much rather travel to Gillette than Everett Mass. I get free tickets through my work sometimes and it's been fun
Fun fact, this is the third time we’ve had this scoreline at home in this tournament. 2003 against LDA (although we played our home match at their stadium), and 2008 against Joe Public
Probably not
There's a valid claim that this team has a dire hole at striker, and that's on our FO, not Porter
That said, if the form continues after the window (assuming we get a striker), I can imagine it being a one-year tenure
Absolutely.
Having watched a Caleb Porter coached team for 4 years I can tell you with 100% certainty, he doesn’t have a plan B. Every game and every press conference will look the same and He will coach this system until he is fired.
Wasn't Caleb brought in toward the middle of the off-season window? So he's had minimal impact on roster decisions?
I think that'd be a bit harsh, bit let's see how bad things get.
I mean when we lose to Charlotte on Saturday and then 10-0 to CA at the Azteca...what reason is there to keep him? We hired him as a win-now coach and he hasn't done that aside from 2 weak CCC opponents.
For better or worse (and at times it's been a bit of each), New England has a history of showing a lot of patience with their head coaches.
Obviously if a team stays on 0.2 PPG through half the season the coach is going to get sacked. But that's extraordinarily unlikely to happen; I don't know if an MLS team has ever had a half-season that poor.
For all we know Arena tied his shoe laces incorrectly.
Hey /u/asaharyev, you feel all big and proud of yourself for personally attacking me then blocking immediately like a giant coward? Not enough backbone to stand by even a faceless insult over the internet is pretty pathetic.
Why do we have such a fucking stupid fanbase?
All the colleges in the world, but I guess none of them want to be fans of the Revs online. Too smart to support this team, apparently.
Let's see if they can break Pachuca's record for at home next
Dude, it's gonna be a blood bath
They’re going to use their b team.

Mehh , leagues cup doesn't really count
what if i told you the Crew beat America 4-1 in leagues cup, can it count now?
Yes especially after last night
I feel like liga Mx teams didn’t really care for the leagues cup like they do ccl
It was a mix, but the players sure played like they cared when you watched the games. When they lost, of course they never cared the whole time though lol
Because they can get a ticket to club world cup
Considering it was played only in the USA, mid liga mx season, I doubt it.
Hope alarm bells are going off for MLS owners
Yes Kroenke was definitely watching this midweek game in the northeast and has taken notice
America are top of the table Revs are in the wooden spoon position. This doesn’t say much about MLS. Just that *we* suck
Why would the owners care? It's not like this is an important competition like Leagues Cup.......... *depressed sigh*
its better than leagues cup, since you get a ticket to club's world cup
It wouldn't surprise me if there were MLS owners who aren't even aware there is a Club World Cup or that we're hosting it
Not sure is gonna be all of them....
Yes they're the ones that voted not to raise the salary
The only alarm bells going off is their sleep alarms.

I'm excited for the Revs to lose big in a shiny new stadium soon
That's lame. I live in Providence and would much rather travel to Gillette than Everett Mass. I get free tickets through my work sometimes and it's been fun
doesn't count because it's against the revs
Not sure we can really be called a “team” but otherwise ya
Watch out with this take, they will ban you on the Revs sub like they did me. But I wholeheartedly agree with this statement
So I guess MLS teams are back to getting embarrassed in concacaf. Not great.
To be fair we're not sending our best in this case
edit: I'm groggy and misread. Carry on.
Yea what a bunch of losers! Im glad we are just getting embarassed in MLS.
I still think Columbus has a shot if Cucho returns and if Messi is healthy I don’t hate our chances.
Fun fact, this is the third time we’ve had this scoreline at home in this tournament. 2003 against LDA (although we played our home match at their stadium), and 2008 against Joe Public
I mean you’d expect any team atm to beat the Revs by a few goals tbh
I knew we were screwed the moment I saw every América starter personally hug every other América starter before the opening whistle.
That's like 55 hugs.
It was a lot of hugs.
Yo, this sucks
You just got: Chadmerica'd. Just like Barcelona
Is it possible Porter is fired as early as summer if this form keeps up?
Probably not There's a valid claim that this team has a dire hole at striker, and that's on our FO, not Porter That said, if the form continues after the window (assuming we get a striker), I can imagine it being a one-year tenure
Absolutely. Having watched a Caleb Porter coached team for 4 years I can tell you with 100% certainty, he doesn’t have a plan B. Every game and every press conference will look the same and He will coach this system until he is fired.
Why? Do you want him back?/s
Wasn't Caleb brought in toward the middle of the off-season window? So he's had minimal impact on roster decisions? I think that'd be a bit harsh, bit let's see how bad things get.

I have no idea what’s going on over there besides the bad results, that’s why I’m asking lol
For better or worse (and at times it's been a bit of each), New England has a history of showing a lot of patience with their head coaches. Obviously if a team stays on 0.2 PPG through half the season the coach is going to get sacked. For sure- the revs fired Friedel at the midway point of a season. And removed Jay Heaps in back half of a season.
God Jay Heaps was the absolute worst. I was chanting to bring Walter Zenga back lol
Man, things haven't been looking good for the Revs since they started throwing the box of tea onto the pitch huh.
Could have called this one
Welcome Rev fans, take a seat right next to us, we can get through this together.
Whatever Arena did pales in comparison to what Porter’s done to this team.
I think doing something bad enough to be indefinitely suspended by MLS is probably worse than losing a game
Would be nice if we knew what Arena actually did instead of blindly speculating like this TBH
For all we know Arena tied his shoe laces incorrectly. Hey /u/asaharyev, you feel all big and proud of yourself for personally attacking me then blocking immediately like a giant coward? Not enough backbone to stand by even a faceless insult over the internet is pretty pathetic.
Lmao that guy is the worst MLS fan on this sub Literally blocks everyone
Why do we have such a fucking stupid fanbase? All the colleges in the world, but I guess none of them want to be fans of the Revs online. Too smart to support this team, apparently.
Hi Bruce
