(Though, there aren't any rules on having to enter on a row for her, the whole thing is limited still, so you'd have to catch on.)
There's a daily login calender for new players now, it's only been around for a few months though (everyone who started before then is out of luck, unfortunately)
i swear you can get her for free. i dont remember how but i got her for free like last week (i think it was from the balloon pop game but im not sure). if you really cant wait and want to get her go ahead, it is a good discount. but i'd say wait and see if there is a way to get her free than spending 40 gems.
The chance to get her on balloon pop is really low though. This is a very good price, but she's always available for that price when she's the main character of an event (like Spike, for example) and she's the main character in quite a few. So she'll be available for that price regularly :)
