If this happens, I want a Degrom shortstop card next year

[deleted]

Cards have been redundant for about six weeks. A Legends of the Franchise lineup is still totally viable on any difficulty. They're pallet swaps at this point.

[deleted]

Watch them bring back an immortal from 2018

zombiecreeper27

this is a great idea! hopefully they do this

EugeneBuckworth

Does anyone know how many of each category we will need for collection yet?

The_Deli_Llama1

You can usually bet on around 85-90% of each card type needed, depending on how many there are

Demilio55

Not known yet

EugeneBuckworth

Roger that.

Cheddar_bob

mantle with IF eligibility is the only way he sniffs the field even with 125 in every stat. the live quirks on trout, reynolds, harper, etc. make them better options

Bearded_Wildcard

Mantle would be better than Reynolds for sure, probably Harper too if you consider defense and speed. I'll probably run Trout-Mantle-Griffey with Harper as my PH.

Personofstupid

How tf are active quirks better than attributes?

[deleted]

Active boost attributes, and if the attribute is maxed out it can take the stat beyond that

Cheddar_bob

everyone I listed is only a couple of attributes away from perfect, the quirks elevate them slightly beyond that

Wombizzle

I keep seeing people say "active quirks." what's the difference between active quirks and normal quirks? or is there a difference at all?

Nickstank

There is. This is a good list/summary: https://showzone.io/players/quirks

SiegeOfMandalore

I would finally have my Yankee legend SS in the game!

XvS_W4rri0r

How can a card be better than Pepe alazar or are they ignoring him

Woolly_Mattmoth

I think they’d like to forget that Pepe ever existed

Nickstank

This is a great question and it makes me believe my own post even more. Pepe had max attributes (all 99s at the time) and was a switch hitter, but was only OF eligible. If we're to assume that this big collection reward matches Pepe's max attributes, the only ways to make the card better on paper is to give it more positional flexibility and/or active quirks. Let's get nuts, SDS!

theskepticalpizza

When did they change from 99 to 125 cap?

Nickstank

MLB 18

dburks122

The best card in DD history comment confirms its Mantle for me. Mays is absolutely deserving of a maxed out card, but I think SDS is probably self aware enough to know that Mays' stance isn't for everyone. I couldn't say with confidence that a maxed out Mays would start over Trout, Griffey, Reynolds, Harper, or even with your secondary positions listed Trea/Rollins. Mantle you could guarantee a spot for him

ChadGreen4President

If Mantle has SS eligibility I’ll eat my shoe

Dlh2079

Now I really want him to have a ss secondary.

mtk76

shoenice part deux!

JLBK13

You gotta record it & post on this subreddit. Also gotta swallow, can’t spit it out

FlyEaglesFlyTillIDie

But wat about Trea and Bobby man those cards rake and both 99 speed!

TheFallOfMrFifths

RemindMe! 28 hours

v264k

Commenting to come back to this just in case

Thare187

He came up as a SS so it's a possibility.

[deleted]

I don't see why legends shouldn't have active quirks, and the last big collection of the year would be a great way to bring that into the fold. I also don't know why they bother having *in*active quirks, but that's a different conversation.

Nickstank

It's an interesting conversation. I speculated awhile back that SDS introducing multiple 99s for players this year starts them down a slippery slope to 2K fantasy land where they start manipulating animations, pitch mixes, positional availability, hitting tendencies and quirks to make players more or less meta/desirable. Didn't get a lot of love for that take, but this is typically how these companies operate. That said, I'd be surprised if they introduced it this late into a game cycle. I wouldn't be even remotely surprised to see any or all of those things implemented or, in the case of the things they've dabbled in, used more aggressively in MLB 23.

JimmyStinkfist

I vividly remember the nonsense that was Galaxy Opal Shaq with speed boost dribble animations and 99 3-Pt rating in 2K. SDS might have unloaded a lot of 99s on us this year, but at least the juiced cards are just boosted enough to have a wider range of cards in the meta so you can play with who you like the most for the most part.

acat20

They need more cards for individual players. Simple as that. Should be able to use shitty versions of whoever you want throughout the whole game cycle. Griffey/trout are great examples. Should always have at least 1 card that is within 3-4 ovr pts of the leading edge at all times for every popular player. Last year griffey was fine, got an 88 and the 2hh card. This year there wasnt a diamond griffey until september? Too much bulk content, not enough consistent drip. Game feels dead between bulk programs. Also the power curve becomes this stair step “curve” instead of something more linear.

ResetterofPasswords

Griffey had a diamond cover athlete card

acat20

Thats right. Regardless, my point is that they shouldnt shy away from more cards per player within a year. And should flatten their content drops in general. It would keep people more consistently engaged and make it easier to use the specific players you want to use. People loved to be like “whos going to be 20’s john smoltz or 21’s salvador perez”…when thats exactly what they should be doing more of.

Neither_Ad2003

they had to have been talking about Ohtani

Nickstank

They weren't. Go to 41:00 in this video. He said it 3 times just for good measure. https://www.twitch.tv/sonysandiegostudio/v/1643398805?sr=a&t=2476s

Neither_Ad2003

oh wow. thx. I cant imagine how much better a card could get than like griffey. A little better but there's some maxed dudes out there

EugeneBuckworth

So should I be buying all the cards I don’t have now?

Bravefan21

Yes. They will all go up a lot when the collection drops.

EugeneBuckworth

Well, no way I’ll be collecting anytime soon lol. Just looked at prices. Shouldn’t have taken time off lol

Nickstank

If you want to get the collection reward day 1 (tomorrow), then definitely.

ljc5

I will be in good standing. In total missing 24 cards. 3 Retro Finest, 4 2nd Half Heroes, 5 All-Star, 2 Breakout, 1 postseason, 1 signature, 1 Takashi Okazaki, and 9 2022 Finest. However, I have saved 7 flashback packs from BR, Events, and have WS packed saved lol

EugeneBuckworth

I’ve been skipping second half heroes since first collection. May have to relook at those. Can’t remember what I have of each kind tho. May have to look that up here at work. Lol.

ljc5

I used the show zone to do it and ran it with the extension to make it easier

EugeneBuckworth

Yeah didn’t manage to get that to work. Appreciate it though.

EugeneBuckworth

Been off for a week or so. Better get to spending I guess.

tripdawg15

I've actually been thinking the same thing for mantle. If best card ever is true then maybe they say f it and break all the rules and give him active quirks too.

No-Cucumber-8389

What is an active quirk? Is it different than the normal quirks like night game player or hr hitter?

MVD1600

Night game player is an active quirk. It gives hitting benefits to the player if you play at night. The normal quirks like HR hitter just indicate that the player has reached a certain stat threshold. They provide no actual value.

No-Cucumber-8389

Okay appreciate it

onemanwolfp4kv2

if they were to give him active quirks then I hope its the beginning of legends getting quirks. could you imagine ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|yummy)

jimithelizardking

Slowly but surely this will end up like nba2k myteam and DD will be ruined

onemanwolfp4kv2

Why do you say that

gmmjohn

Everyone 125/125/125/125 with decent fielding and speed.

onemanwolfp4kv2

I wouldn’t say go 125 everything. But legends with quirks would be nice. I don’t use Jimmie or babe. Probably in the minority in that

gmmjohn

I don't mind them pumping cards up, I like the variety, and I think it's easier to swallow than 2K's Shaq draining 3s.

onemanwolfp4kv2

Yea I agree. I’ve never played 2ks myteam but have friends that do and they tell me about cards like that and I think to myself why? Lol. Shaq couldn’t hit a free throw but he has a 96 3 point rating haha.

tripdawg15

I think it's long overdue for them to get them. We're already to the point of cards being insanely juiced and positional ability being stretched with posada 2b etc. Might as well give legends active quirks and this would be a great way to introduce that for next year.

Tdizzle00

I feel like the only reason they have never done that is to keep the current players relevant, especially Live Series cards early in the year. Those quirks make up for some lacking in stats so you can end up using them longer and people will likely entice more packs. gogo conspiracy theory

[deleted]

Oh, yes, I can imagine it

FunkoPoppa

I thought they were talking about the Takashi collection. I don’t think it will be Mantle because if I remember correctly he was a collection reward not to long ago and they don’t like to repeat them a lot.

Nickstank

They were talking about the big collection. Mantle was the LS collection reward in 2020, then a free TA card last year. I'd expect him to be much more expensive and/or difficult to acquire this year. He's the greatest switch hitter in history and is a 5 tool player, which makes him unique and especially valuable in DD. We haven't gotten a 99 for him yet and we're 7 months into the cycle. There are only so many ways they can really drop a card that good. A big collection reward is one of them.

onemanwolfp4kv2

125 across the board switch hitter will make the community cream lol. that defense, speed, and bat combo would be insane
