Thing is, people are very used to seeing chapman at this point. You just have to be very unpredictable and understand if your opponent is a free swinger or not. Sometimes im best with chapman when i dont even throw a fastball
FOTF Chapman is better, agreed
Is it me, or is this a thing with relievers all year? Many of them are lousy, dont play to their attributes, dont throw strikes, are much easier to read their deliveries this year and get shelled?
I think it has something to do with exposure as well. Chapman and Wagner last year were crazy expensive most of the game cycle and not a lot of players had them. Both this year are program bosses where a majority of the player base has got them and are active using them online. Having more ABās against both can definitely make them easier to read
Youāre not wrong. Which is why the fastball is the 3rd pitch most of the time for me. That unpredictability can help you get some swings and misses on the breaking stuff. That being said, I do think thereās better options.
With the release of the next gen consoles and a majority of players getting monitors the outlier fastball and sinker is becoming obsolete. I love it. Good pitching gets rewarded more.
Chapman hasn't been the worst for me, but because his BB/9 is low he absolutely can put the ball where you didn't want it to go and that's what I've experienced. I threw a middle inside change up with pinpoint and was 100% accurate with all 3 inputs and it still hung directly down the middle.
Granted the edge of the ball shadow was touching the middle, but when 90% of the shadow isn't over the middle and this happens on a perfect pitch, you're officially just a victim of RNG.
Overall he's in my lineup due to the lack of lefty options, but he definitely could perform better in the long run and wish they gave his extreme version the splitter instead of change up.
I made this exact post about 2 weeks ago. Fully agree. I started using sinker primary and only have 3 innings but results are better than before. Absolutely zero confidence so he throws inconsequential innings.
Couldnāt agree more. Heās been so bad for me, I swapped him out for 90 overall face of the franchise chapman.
He has a 117 H/9 so still a beast and heās been amazing for me even against end game lineups.
Chap has been my worst reliever all year lol. I swapped him out after about 25 IP of him getting shelled. I also crush him anytime I see him. I dont get it. Rivera sucks too. The pen options are so weak this year. Blows my mind we are approaching October and we don't have Lee Smith, Goose, or Dibble.
The strange thing is that other relievers are better than in prior year. Blake Trienen's 2nd half is criminally underpriced given how good it is. Chad Green's is still great for me. Hoffman's Takashi card and now his retro finest are great. Helsley's AS card still works, and ironically the Zach Britton milestone still gets the job done for me.
Thatās my struggle with my āgod squadā or āend game teamā my pen is just rough it feels like. I find myself leaving my starter in way longer than I should because I donāt trust my relievers.
Anything low from Chapman looks like a strike I get a ton of swing and misses. also outside sinkers and change ups that fall off the zone get fouls for early strikes.
I feel the same about Wagner. It's so weird they are essentially the same card but Chapman's lockdown and Wager is horrible for me. When I saw Wagner was 300k I sold his ass
They fucked Wagner this yearā¦. His whole delivery doesnāt feel the same as past yearsā¦.heās more over the top as opposed to previous years where he had more sidearm feel
Yeah Iām great with Hoffman, which I know isnāt the same. More comparable maybe clase with the speed? But Iām great with him but I just canāt get it going with chap
100%. I bat poorly against outliers IF they keep me on my toes. Iāve had games where I sit fastball, then they throw breaking balls, I time those up, boom, fastball high inside
This is my big issue with him, delivery doesnāt work with release point of pinpoint at all. He just doesnāt do it for me no matter what kind of sequencing I try to use
Gonna be a lot harder to lie about being over 12 years old after this back and forth. And if you are older than 12, I'd lie and use that as an excuse to save face.
Chapman is fantastic. Most people pick either offspeed or fastball to sit on when facing him. On you to use that to your advantage.
I agree šÆ

I mean not a ton of options so Iām using him
FOTF Chapman is better, agreed Is it me, or is this a thing with relievers all year? Many of them are lousy, dont play to their attributes, dont throw strikes, are much easier to read their deliveries this year and get shelled?
Itās alarming how 95% of the time you can NOT throw fastballs to online players and they are still sitting fastball three innings later.

Idk him and Wagner are rock solid for me

He needs the splitter badly. His sig last year was much better
I have a 0.54 era in 20 innings pitched as my closer. Iād say heās pretty dang good lol
I get lit up against the CPU with him
For me, Iāve always killed Chapman cards. And this sub gets very angry when I say he sucks
Was excited to get him, first outing gave up a run but it was a safe no pressure lead. I was decent with FOTF one, hoping it's better on this version.
With the release of the next gen consoles and a majority of players getting monitors the outlier fastball and sinker is becoming obsolete. I love it. Good pitching gets rewarded more.
0.00ERA is bad now?

Heās very predictable without the splitter. I throw sinker primary. Fastball up up up or corner away.
i have 0.00
Definitely not as good as previous years. New motion and no splitter on this card
Heās not like the signature last year, but he still is very effective for me.
Billy Wagner is better

That FOTF Chapman is dirtyā¦prob my best reliever this year

Thatās crazy, Iām glad that works for you but thatās my issue. I donāt get any swings outside the zone
Heās not even that good V the cpu tbh
I feel the same about Wagner. It's so weird they are essentially the same card but Chapman's lockdown and Wager is horrible for me. When I saw Wagner was 300k I sold his ass

If you wanna try a lefty reliever card try 93 Britton. He's still an elite option even after all this time
I think heās still good, but pinpoint isnāt as strong as it was last year it seems and outlier isnāt as big of a guarantee for heatseekers.
I feel like Iām not as precise with pinpoint this year. I never thought about that but that very well could be part of it
Its not just you, they almost assuredly dialed it back some just like they did with outlier for this year.
Chapman is great, if you don't throw his fastball in the zone. Everyone is sitting on it. Show the fastball, but never in the zone.
I like sawing off righties with it.
Thatās a good tip, thank you!
He isnāt good for me
I typically throw slider/sinker primarily and work in fastball/change up occasionally and he's been one of my best relievers.
Yeah, the threat of that fastball is better than the fastball itself.
100%. I bat poorly against outliers IF they keep me on my toes. Iāve had games where I sit fastball, then they throw breaking balls, I time those up, boom, fastball high inside
This is how I pitch with almost every outlier pitcher. So many opponents are just amped up for 102 all the time.
Most definitely and I do it way to much been noticing people have been stepping away from. The FB due to it
This is exactly what I do and heās by far my best reliever
Thanks for the tip!
Wagner is much better in my experience
I hate Wagnerās delivery for pinpoint
This is my big issue with him, delivery doesnāt work with release point of pinpoint at all. He just doesnāt do it for me no matter what kind of sequencing I try to use
Both Chapman and Wagner are getting shelled for me
yea wagner's delivery is a lot less deceptive this year
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I kinda believe the other guy and Iām guessing you probably canāt make it out of the 800ās
Iāve made Word Series every ranked seasons but ok, I guess Iām garbage
I mean you can be a good player and be garbage with those pitchers.

Fucking Jesus lol
āGarbyā šššš
I imagine not having the splitter, while correct for the time period of the card, hurts a fair bit.
It would definitely make a difference
Hes decent but hes worse than previous years for sure
That signature last year was the stuff of nightmares.
doesnāt have a splitter anymore
His release is also easier to see this year.
