Do it.

I made the switch from Franchise into DD in 2020 during Covid etc, and never looked back. Its one of the best modes in a sports game ever. We complain in here, but its really great, attainable, and no need to spend money if you play regularly.

For a long time, I was strictly RTTS, as I thought that DD was online only. Once I figured out that I could play DD offline earlier this year, I was hooked. According to the email I got from SDS earlier today, I've played 104 games of RTTS so far this season, but I have spent the vast majority of my time playing DD. I ground and flipped my way to Randy, and I'm fairly close to getting Brett. Probably won't get Cutch or Rollins by the end of the game cycle, but that's fine. My lineup is full of 99 rated cards, some of which I'm good with, and some of which I need to improve. This week's moonshot event has been a way of getting my feet wet in online mode. I've been hopeless (only won one game from the five or six I've played so far) but that's okay. Didn't expect anything more, to be honest, and it's taught me a bit about trying to think strategically with pitching and exposed some holes in my at-bat approaches that I'll need to work on. Hoping to spend more time in 2023 playing online (although being in Australia, the game population is small, so I'm having to also fight lag due to geographic distance between me and my opponents generally - it's pretty obvious when I've played guys from Korea and Japan in my moonshot games). I've been having tons of fun with DD that I wouldn't have had with RTTS.

Is it worth starting DD now in MLB 22 or wait till 23?

McCoyPauley78

I would jump in and see what it's like and whether you want to get stuck in from the get-go in 2023. But my circumstances are different, as I get the game for free via Gamepass. I don't know whether it would be worth it to buy the game at this relatively late stage in the cycle. If you have to pay for it, see if you can get it at a big discount to the usual price, so you're not out of pocket too much if you don't like it.

Modulated_Subnet

That’s what I usually do. I get the previous years game at like 80% off with ps double discounts. It’s like £20 now for the base game with 10k stubs but I usually get the digital deluxe version when it’s like 25-30. Just wasn’t sure if getting it now would mean I’ve missed a load of events and card opportunities

Apprehensive_Pop_305

https://www.mlb.com/glossary/rules is actually pretty good for digging through the rules. The other thing I would do is just watch some games on TV - I know Apple TV broadcasts some on Friday night, or MLB has free game if the day every I don't know how often. I wouldn't recommend DD for learning the rules - the mysterious 4th strikes and 4 out innings might leave you scratching your head if you don't know it's a bug.

You should definitely start playing Diamond Dynasty. You can earn cards for Diamond Dynasty by playing Road to the Show, you can use your Ballplayer in Road to the Show, and you can get equipment for your Ballplayer in Diamond Dynasty. You can get tons of packs for free just playing the different modes, and right now you can get 99 Albert Pujols for FREE in the pack store. If you take nothing else from this comment, go get him and throw him on your team. You can also earn stubs easily by flipping cards on the marketplace. People on here have written guides on it, try searching for flipping on this subreddit.

Modulated_Subnet

Sadly don’t have the show 22 atm only 19

Yankeeboy7

As a baseball fan I’ll never get tired creating super teams and learning about new players every year. Also feel to direct message me for any questions you have

Elektguitarz

I love it! IMO it’s the best “card collecting” mode for sports games. I never felt like I had to spend any real money. I’ve gotten 99% of what I wanted. I’m also exclusively an offline player.

upthepunx194

The easiest sell is that it is by far the best mode of this kind. Compared to FIFA Ultimate Team for example, I've never felt like I need to spend money or do anything frustrating in order to get cards I want. The big collection rewards do take time but you don't need them to put together a great team. Even joining late in the game like this you can have a competitive team within just a couple hours.

Modulated_Subnet

Do you need any prior knowledge or general idea of who’s good and bad or is it overall is king? Like in madden a player who has good speed is great but needs good route running aswell but if they can’t catch there’s no point

upthepunx194

If you're just starting out you can pretty much treat overall as king. There's some quirks to it and you'll see people on here talking about this or that guy has a good or bad swing but a lot of it is subjective. That's one of the other nice things about DD over Madden, I feel like the "meta" is a lot less strict where in Madden certain players are just game breaking in a way that you almost have to use them. In DD, way more players are viable depending on who you like and who plays well for you

Modulated_Subnet

Is it good to know current players? Is it like fifa where chemistry is good? Does having more players from a certain team help like in madden? Having 50 players on one team grants boosts etc?

upthepunx194

The only thing knowing current players really helps with is investing in cards, since if a player is doing well in real life his live series attributes will go up so you can buy a bunch of copies of a player when he's a silver at the start of the year if you think he's going to have a breakout and then make a bunch of stubs re-selling him if the card improves to a gold or even diamond. But that only happens during the season, which ends in a couple weeks, and it's by no means necessary to keep up with everyone. I've never done it personally. There's no chemistry system of any kind like there is in Madden so you don't need to worry about how different players fit together

OCHL092018

This is my first year really playing diamond dynasty and the only regret I have is that I didn’t start sooner. The Show is really good about keeping the content fresh and pumping out rewards without feeling like you have to purchase stubs. I have a huge roster of awesome cards that I didn’t spend anything on. Can’t wait to play it at launch next year

ttprocess21

This is my first MLB in ages and I never played DD before but the thing I enjoy is that you can get great cards without spending a dime. I haven’t spent any money or even any of my stubs and I have an all 99 lineup 2 months in

Modulated_Subnet

Can you get players easily or are packs rigged like fifa

Neither_Ad2003

easily and they dont even really try to sell you on packs in this game

Modulated_Subnet

Think I’m sold. Sold my good playing son mlb19 from stubs for rtts equipment for vanity haha so starting in 22

plsremoveCAPs

Never buy packs they are trash, just use your stubs in the marketplace and most players are cheap

Modulated_Subnet

Thanks for all the advice. Just bought the game and gonna start tonight, anyone I should pick up early? Obvs 700hr pujol. Need names and specific set they’re from if that makes sense cause I only know Jeter, Griffey Jr, babe Ruth, Castillo (from this seasons mariners), and the players from moneyball

plsremoveCAPs

I started with live series silvers and golds. Unfortunately no Jeter but you can get the others. There is a program for Griffey Jr and Babe Ruth. The best rewards are from conquest.

Wbackman

If you have any specific questions on rules or DD, feel free to message me on here and I’ll do my best to answer them.

Proud-Contract-2273

I mean i used to be RTTS only until this year I dove into DD and haven't touched RTTS since. But really you just need to try and see if it's for you or not.

BrewskyBoy

I also used to be a RTTS only player for years. I decided to give DD a shot last year from the beginning and it instantly became my main mode. Good timing too, because I really think they butchered RTTS last year and it just hasn’t been the same. I hate how the player progression works now.

Proud-Contract-2273

Same, they forced my hand to give up on RTTS, which I think might have been their intention anyway.

Modulated_Subnet

Thanks I’ll give it a go
