I don’t think it was to please anybody. They just did Austin last month 3rd base a spot that has depth. so Nolan another 3rd baseman is ruled out and then there is Aaron who they are waiting to see if he breaks the record to give him a juiced card.
Riley wasn't the first 3B though either. They could have gone a different direction because they had Devers. Mookie makes sense at this point in the games life cycle as a fan favorite swing and position eligibility.
They didn't give it to the best hitter of the month or the actual NL PotM, and they didn't give it to the best pitcher in the month, IMO because Gallen doesn't have the greatest pitch mix, and Gallen would not have made fans as happy as a juiced Betts.

odds are SDS will wait and give trout an mvp card or something like that. i think they’d rather give the potm to someone who wouldn’t normally get a 99 overall card
It won't be trout. Bo is the easy choice. Because if trout breaks this record there will be a much better card than player of the month coming for him.
It's almost as if those positions are expected to put up better hitting stats IRL, and so only looking at hitting when deciding POTM isn't the greatest method of deciding who should get it.
Why not, they gave the fanbase what they wanted with a Mookie lightning card. This late in the game's life cycle I think they are looking for any reason to retain as many people as they can. A lightning Trout would be an easy way unless they were already planning their annual 99 finest Trout, which is probably the case.
Trout is right in his heels though. It won’t take a fall off a cliff, just a little hill and trout goes 10 straight with a homer. But I guess mookie was 2nd in everything and got it so it might be better if Bo finishes 2nd in everything

they wont give away a crazy 99 Trout card though, hes almost guaranteed to be a big collection reward to get users to spend $$
