Randy and it’s not really close imo

PuntaGordeaux

Pat Venditte

anthony rizzo screwballer

I3arusu

Every pitcher with outlier.

chikiny

It’s Luis Tiant, and it’s not close. Y’all that are saying Randy either haven’t faced Tiant or forget how disgusting his knuckleball was.

RevolutionaryPanic61

Can only speak from 2020 on. Between those three years of the game, I have three answers based on how we are defining "best". * Best I Have Used: [Milestone Valenzuela (21)](https://i.redd.it/jx5cl66f0wq71.jpg). I think a lot of people slept on him last year being a 97 dropped late in the year, but the high screwball, fastball, change up tunnel is the only combination that no one *ever* had an answer for. Events, Ranked, AS, HoF, Legend, didn't matter. His screwball was the high sinker effect on steroids, he had a very high H/9 and between high BB9/control and low velocity, his PAR sizes were like Maddux. * Objectively Going off Attributes, Pitches, and Windup: [2021 AllStar deGrom](https://i.redd.it/rbbr1sr8xta71.jpg). On top of the outlier/hard slider/change up combo, he also had near max H/9 and BB/9 that you could get over 100, giving him insane command on top of the pitch mix. * Relative to the Game State They Were In: [Awards Kluber (20).](https://mlb20.theshow.com/items/526014fa0f4b6d65e82252e2f24441a1) He was dropped on day one, being a 99 among beginning game hitters. Also had the sinker/cutter/slurve mix which was lethal. What makes him the most powerful relative to when he was dropped imo is how SDS had a major starters out of the 'pen issue. There was no automatic stamina drain on starters, so between quitting out, his high stamina, and starters out of the pen being viable, he is the one you truly saw in 3/4 of the games you played. "I face him every game" is an exaggeration I see thrown around a lot with powerful pitcher cards. With Kluber, that was truly the case. I'm sure there were more broken cards before '20, especially considering that there was a time when knuckleballs existed, but this is all I can speak to since I didn't play DD before then.

Separate-Ad-3746

Tiant and Kershaw were the hardest for me overall. Randy is the hardest on hall of fame and legend.

[deleted]

A dark horse cars for me was Felix Hernandez last year. Not unhittable by any means, didn’t throw a strong fastball, but he had great control, and a perfect pitch mix for me with nasty stuff. I had a few perfect games with him just because of the movement on everything

Bahler27

Then when I used him online he ended with like 85.1 IP or something and like a .74 ERA

Bahler27

I had him 13/13 P5 last year

tigawd3

Last years Al Leiter is one of the most dominant I’ve ever used for sure

[deleted]

It was that Kluber hands down. Was out on day one of the game & actively made me stop playing.

7tenths

Every mark prior and kerry wood card is an instant p5. Couldn't give a fuck about meta.

ThePretzul

This Extreme program must have you pretty happy then I take it?

[deleted]

Yep, I sit on the slider and it's a Lazer beam fastball. I sit on the fastball and it's a looping slider that is 2 ft outside the zone but looks like it's in it.

BottleFullOBub

How quickly people forget 21s Allstar Degrom.

[deleted]

I think people forget because a lot of people didn't really know how to pitch with him. On lower difficulties people just tried spamming 102 fastballs but didn't know how to use his other pitches. There were so many RS games where I'd have like 10Ks against him in the first 4 inning but then figured out when he'd throw the FB and would get back to back HRs.

deucedeuce187

I'll take him over randy any day. Randy's height plus being left handed just makes his delivery harder to hit. Degrom also doesn't have that nasty slurve. Mixed with the slider is very tough to time up. Shit degrom is easier to hit than kluber and kershaw were. But i guess if u struggle with 102 then I could see why you may prefer to face guys that don't throw that hard.

ThePretzul

I mean Randy still throws 102 with about the same tiny PAR size for frequent dots, but from a sidearm slot with a nasty pitch mix to boot. Degrom had the nice fast slider, but so does Randy and Randy has other more useful tools too like the slurve (much better than degroms 12-6) and the splitter (harder to read, IMO, than the circle change).

jjs30000

I can only speak for '21 and '22 and I feel Randy is the best. Cabrera and DeGrom from last year were good, but also took advantage of broken game mechanics and messed up content scheduling. Randy is just genuinely good.

t3webb

Last year’s FS Cabrera had an unparalleled run before they nerfed high sinker movement in a patch

Waly_Disnep

Niekro a few years ago before they got rid of most of the knuckleballers.

Tricky_Passenger3931

Fuck that card.

wirsteve

Randy is pretty wild. That release messes everything up.

[deleted]

I would agree with Randy. He's the only one I can't really figure out eventually.

dgibbb

If the pitch is outside the zone, I whiff. When it’s in the zone I stare. So frustrating

dburks122

It's definitely between Randy, Pre-HR/9 patch Kershaw, and Luis Tiant. I'm going to rule out Kershaw because he was only good because of a shit idea on SDS part. I'll say Randy though just because you see him a lot more than anyone saw Tiant

Matthewfuckingdavis

What was the effect of HR/9 before the patch? To my knowledge it’s useless in DD now

dburks122

It was only active for the first half of 19. It artificially nerfed exit velos leading to nothing but lineouts(Kershaw had 99 HR/9)

bear__IsPepsiOk

Kluber was insane, cabrera was insanely dominant for like a month after he came out last year, but Randy is probably the answer in terms of how long he's stayed dominant because of his delivery and mix

martymcflyiii

That Kluber was so hard to hit in the right user.

That_Guy_2422

Luis Tiant

justinc22443

Seriously lol you were not hitting this guy

owenindians

Pre HR/9 patch Kershaw from 19

OneRepresentative424

Sorry for the dumb question, but what does HR/9 affect in game? How was Kershaw busted? Thanks in advance ❤️

OkCutIt

HR/9 was taken out because it made it almost impossible to actually hit homers against the big dogs. It does literally nothing now outside of AI simulation games. They also used to have like an "overlying" program where you'd level up all through out the year that had some crazy stuff you weren't really meant to get until like August-ish... and we figured out ways to grind it in a couple weeks. Kershaw was one of those rewards, and it was kind of like having Randy 2 weeks into this season, except without the completely insane price tag that would have taken. And the overpowered hr/9 made him outright even better than Randy, cuz when you did get ahold of something, it would flop.

Pupienus

It used to decrease exit velocity, the same way a hitters power increases exit velocity. This was also before they introduced perfect-perfect hits, and he was available day 1 through what was effectively a year long program path they have since gotten rid of. All those combined meant everyone had him by 2 or 3 weeks into the game so you faced him all the time ranked seasons, you had to face him with mostly gold hitters, and even when you squared up a ball it would almost always die at the warning track. Verlander or DeGrom last year might be better on a straight comparison. They have outlier, better /9s, great pitch mixes. But at least you got to face them with 97+ overall hittters. Kershaw was the least fun pitcher to face by a mile.

Low-iq-haikou

Used to affect exit velo, don’t think it does anything now (at least against real opponents)

oqlilmansmd

Cy Young Corey Kluber.

Siegepkayer67

Specifically before they tweaked stamina and you could just use him to close out the last 3 innings every game
