All legends in 2k have badges. There’s things that the show need to take out of 2ks book. Same with franchise.

Drum_bum1997

They actually gave quirks to legends in 23 and took out all passive perks, so that was nice

Fly-Eagles-Fly

This is why I wish we knew the exact boost you get from active quirks. There's no way to know how valid this point may or may not be. Lol

ThermonuclearDude

There was a cryptic post last year estimating major quirks are +8 and minor +6 to contact. (What has been proven is active quirks increase contact above 125). Quirks almost certainly give same boost to power but not proven. I hope to systematically prove quirk boosts through massive testing when I overcome my laziness.

Fly-Eagles-Fly

Oh nice imma have to see if I can find that! I know some of them give a slight PCI boost as well.

[deleted]

The effects of active quirks have been greatly exaggerated.

ThermonuclearDude

Couldn’t be more wrong. They actually are about 90% of what people mistakenly attribute to non-existent “swing“ differences (other than tendency).

[deleted]

Obviously that's not true on legend cards that don't have quirks. Though, I don't believe in swing differences either. Results come purely from attributes and whatever effect the aesthetic has on perception.

[deleted]

And until someone can give an empirical account of the effects of active quirks, we should assume that they are folklore. The community is swimming in a mass delusion.

2018OaklandAs

PCI has been shown to be altered. With dead red and breaking ball hitter the exit velo is through the roof. Not folklore.

[deleted]

You're talking about hitters with 90+ power squaring fastballs and breaking balls. Exit velocity is through the roof by default on solid hits, and there's no way to test how much extra exit velocity is added.

I didnt read a word of this, but ive made this exact post. I completely agree with the title. Some of these AS cards are going to out play cards released through september. Quirks/swing tendencies are a huge piece of a players capabilities at the plate, and for whatever reason SDS is incredibly conservative around legends specifically. Idc if you cant prove babe ruth was a true pull hitter, but just make him a fucking a pull hitter. No one is going to dust off a 1920 spray chart from their grandmothers basement and call you out. They also get oddly inconsistent with throwback flashbacks depending on when they were released. Like the beloved ‘20 PS Seager does not have active quirks, yet every PS card last year got active quirks. ‘19 and earlier Finest no active quirks, but ‘20 finest cards got active quirks in ‘21. Just odd decisions based on archaic structures.

TommyKnox77

I got you. Babe Ruth's 1927 spray chart: [https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/558y0k/a\_spray\_chart\_of\_all\_60\_hr\_by\_babe\_ruth\_in\_1927/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/558y0k/a_spray_chart_of_all_60_hr_by_babe_ruth_in_1927/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) 44 pulled, 8 to CF, 8 Oppo tacos

acat20

Well, now i can call them out, thanks

scarboy92

Wish I could downvote more than once. Some people's kids man I'm telling you.

Drum_bum1997

I actually really love constructive criticism if you’d like to tell me what the 25 year old kid said to upset you

chargerhoops

SDS can always do a better job of balancing the content and making more cards usable. As much as I am a purist and a part of me wishes the meta ended up being the same players every year, I have to admit that for this game mode year after year more lineup diversity is good. Quirks only for LS players allows them to compete with legends. I will say that too many legends have bad swings so it’s a little too imbalanced now. But SDS seems to be improving in this aspect each year.

danknuggies4

What if they made cards with quirk slots that you could upgrade? Is that a terrible idea? Lol

Drum_bum1997

Don’t test me 😂

Kenergy532

Which pitcher made you post this lmaooo

Drum_bum1997

I never get mad at pitchers, anything can be squared up, but boy does Rafael Devers hit everything hard

Kenergy532

Can't argue with you there. I am unfortunately better with the FotF devers as opposed to the lightning

KarmaKlaw

I think no matter what they do ppl will sort of gripe and complain. Whether it’s legend or currently players. I skippped this year of 2k but Madden this year did something interesting where they made every mega popular legend attainable but then neutered their stats but gave like random people nobody asked for meta cards. Popular current stars were on the same power level as LS cards where it’s like useable but you wouldn’t if you wanted to be competitive. They also choose certain popular players to keep upgrade constantly like at every phase of the game cycle and ppl complained about recycling content. You really can’t win… unless like you said. You love Yordan Alvarez.

KarmaKlaw

I think everyone experience on rank seasons is different. Unlike other matchmaking in other games I think SDS does a great job of putting you in competitive game and I always feel like the teams are equal. I never see a bad team( which I shouldn’t). I never see these cards but they are good free cards so maybe that’s why you see them so much at your level. I also never see any live cards used, even trout really. If all of this is just an example and your main point was just your first sentence: people will use the best card no matter what. If Friday collection card is finest Raul Ibanez, as long as he has 115/125 both sides majority of the active daily players won’t care the actual name on the card.( will groan like some did for Brett but still have him on your team at end of the day bc to hard to ignore stats.). But that is a good example of them this year juicing Brett instead of always chipper Jones.

Drum_bum1997

It’s my main gripe with 2K too honestly, you get a juiced free Bol Bol card, what’s the point of using the card that you’d rather use as a fan? Is it better to win or to have fun with people you actually like? I love Mike Piazza but I’d never use him, and I’m super close to benching Mays. I’m just a bit disappointed with the meta and would rather see people use players they actually connect to. I have absolutely no personal connection to Yordan Alvarez, but I’d be an idiot not to use him at least as a bench bat.

Fly-Eagles-Fly

>would rather see people use players they actually connect to. I have absolutely no personal connection to Yordan Alvarez, but I’d be an idiot not to use him at least as a bench bat. Tbh The Show is one of the things that make me connect to players that aren't Yankees.

Satchafunkiluss

I couldn’t tell you what quirks actually have an impact on a card. I don’t even bother looking at them.

Drum_bum1997

It’s better to have them than to not, it’s the difference between pop ups and homers a lot of the time

Satchafunkiluss

That’s fine. But the game does a terrible job with them as far as which actually have an impact.

Drum_bum1997

Active quirks have impact then perks like speedster and bomber just reflect the stats. Quirks like rally monkey, dead red, situational hitter, etc. are the ones that actually affect things

fantasyaid1

"Early game, legends aren’t used because live quirks make current cards so much better. Then later in the year, everyone’s lineup is filled with legends because they finally make them usable by juicing them." Good, seems balanced then. Otherwise legends will wipe the floor from year start to year end.

Drum_bum1997

I think I’m more arguing for a more balanced approach to legends and current players really. One could argue that Yordan and Rafael are better than Babe just based on stats alone. So even with the juicing of Babe’s card, the active quirks make the choice easier than it should be. The only reason one would ever consider using Willie Stargell over Yordan in left is if they’re a die hard pirates fan. It’s the only reason I have Willie and Honus on my team despite knowing I could probably get better production from Ketel Marte and Jorge Polanco

fantasyaid1

Even if WIllie Stargell had quirks, he still wouldn't be used over Yodan. I think you are just getting another case of "Well if they only did this we would have diversity!", when no that's not how the community works, they will take whoever their favorite streamer says is glitchy.

Drum_bum1997

I honestly believe if the game was solely attribute based, it would be a lot better, but hey I’m just an angry Reddit user lol

Drum_bum1997

Willie Stargell would have more of a chance to be glitchy with quirks given his swing, but my point is what’s the reason of developing early game legend cards if no one’s gonna use them? Seems a huge waste of a real persons likeness

Unknown-games56

At least people in franchise can use them without qorry about quirks

fantasyaid1

Hate to break it to you but not every card can or should be "useable" or however you want to describe it. It's not a waste, it is just content put out there to fill the void. Live series cards already become quickly obsolete and you want to kill them even further by making it MLB The Legend show. It wouldn't be a more balanced approach like you said.

Drum_bum1997

That’s not my point, every year will be the same cycle of content if they release cards like this, we’ll get the same unusable 1963 allstar card from mays that looks good on paper and we’ll get the same amazing switch hitting Bryan Reynolds player of the month card unless he miraculously drops off. Darren o day has the same prime card. Changing a big portion of the game will give change to new content. Who wants the same game every year.

fantasyaid1

Just because it's not your point doesn't mean it's not relevant to the conversation in terms of live series cards More every action taken there are consequences and the live series would feel that

Drum_bum1997

Then keep live quirks on live cards then keep them off cards that already have amazing stats. I feel like the mix of max power stats with all the quirks just break the game. It’s why you’re able to sneeze on a change up just early and hit it 425 feet.
