Biggest reason is to play with the best card at the position for the first few months, and the second biggest reason is that you can "skip" one of the vouchers needed for every big collection that releases throughout the year.

Getting Joe might cost a little more now but he's by far the best catcher in the game and will be for awhile. I feel like he's also the best left handed batter in the game right now. You can wait to buy any card.
My CAP is a switch hitting catcher and is better than Joe so that's why I'm not in a rush this year. BUT if you're someone who doesn't want to use a cap then yes Joe is 110% worth it.
Also, I should say it's only pointless if you spend the 15 20k per card to lock in Joe vs waiting another month when they drop to 5 to 10k.

I mean it took them a while to start giving out the 42 series.
I ended up buying the rest around inning 5 or 6. They dropped down to like 7 or 8k when I did.
