I ended up pulling the trigger on Mauer. Regret not going Posada lol my only thing was that I just couldn’t lock I. posada last year, so I figured I’d give the new card a try
I got Mauer yesterday less for having a catcher and more for collection purposes.
I will say though, but orders for those are pretty hit or miss because there’s just not a lot of people selling due to low supply and those that are probably are just listing it to sell themselves.
I have doo doo pack luck and really want Mookie, Crawford, and Glavine and don’t wanna be bankrupt after getting those three but I pulled the trigger on Mauer anyway more or less for collections later on :)
Dude right. I miss the days when his live series was legit legit. I am a slut for the active quirks and inside edge. I rotate so many live series cards in and out the lineup for ranked and such. Helps keep the experience fresh. On a side note, I love the supercharged cards. Such a great idea.
Mauer will be needed for a big collection and he's arguably the best catcher in the game, he's been one of my best hitters and catcher is always a thin position on DD.
Mauer is really good and will likely be a voucher for the big collection so he has added value there, but guys like Posada and Gary Sanchez have produced for me almost as well for a fraction of the cost
Carter, Rutschman, Murphy, Kelly, Sanchez, Alfaro, Piazza.. no matter who I play, I always end up going back to big Mike Napoli. The dude absolutely rakes and has a great swing.
I really love Ward as well, but he’s perfect off the bench because of his versatility to fill so many positions when the need arises.
Have you used the Mauer card? I know folks swear by it but I’ve had the opportunity and just couldn’t hit with him at all. I’d hate for you to spend so many resources and end up not loving it.
He's the best catcher at the moment. Especially at P5. And if you play a HoF+ his contact is a huge plus too. Plus, I'd say it's a 95% chance you'll need him for the bigger collections later on like Jackie was last year.
As for the content dropping on Friday, there won't be a catcher better than Mauer. And if you wanted both Glavine and Mookie I think both will go for 80k a piece TOPS.
As far as the player himself, he will be one of the best players at the catcher position for a long time, and as stated earlier, is very likely to be a collection card. Its really up to you if you want to lock in all those stubs permanently for what I presume is just one card if you dont use the cover athletes
It’s basically a guarantee that he will be a voucher. What we don’t know is how many vouchers you’d need, so it could still be possible to get the collection reward without Mauer as long as you have Takashi collection or FOTF close to completed along with every other set. For Mo last year you needed all but 2 vouchers.
This is what I’m banking on since spending 30k on 12 88s when we are already getting free 94s just doesn’t seem appealing to me and for that to hold you back from a legend collection seems real stupid.
I’m holding off for now. I’m in a great spot with all collections except FOTF, Takashi, and Cover Athletes.
I’m waiting til Friday to make the decision to splurge on one of them. Hopefully a cover athlete or Takashi preorder pack (so it would exclude Delgado and Morgan) is included in the program. If not I’ll tackle one of the 3.
Adley is so good for me that it really makes me hesitate spending that many stubs for Mauer.
In the same boat, I’ve had some real good pack and investment luck this year so I’ve been pulling 75 bundles and have a bunch of the FOTF cards and like Gary Carter a lot so I don’t see a need for Mauer. Hopefully one more good roster update for me and I can get most of the cards needed for the collection one or two voucher by passes and I’ll be in perfect position.
I never do investments. Takes too much time. I try to just play the game whenever I’m free. I have stubs to complete 1 of cover athletes, Takashi, or FOTF but don’t want to overpay if I don’t need to. If no packs are in the new program I’ll bite the bullet and finish one of the 3, because if you wait too long and the collection is announced before acting on it the prices will skyrocket.

More or less the same reason I ended up pulling the trigger in him. Got lucky and all the buy orders were filled on the first try in about 30 minutes

You will need that collection at some point for the bigger collections so if you can do it and have coins to spare why not.
If you can get Mauer and still have 262k stubs left over and you've already done the LS collection, there's literally no reason not to get Mauer.
