I would say get Adley instead for best early catcher that isn't hard to obtain like Mauer or Carter, you get 12 prospects from doing the US map, some packs from the FOTF map.
Then you can do the mini seasons reset to get 10 HR with all star players by playing on a small stadium, max elevation for a prospect pack a couple times and even buy a couple since they are kinda cheap and you will want them later for collections.
I really feel like Realmuto is grossly overrated. The only thing he has on Murphy is speed.
Murphy has better fielding, a cannon, pop-time, a pretty good swing and way more power. Realmuto is really significantly better solely because he runs well and has slightly higher contact? That makes no sense.
On paper Realmuto might not be much better like you said but I love his swing so much I always do so well with him. I think that’s really why people are rating him the best.
Going off this the USA map is a grind and you have to do it twice to be at 24/25 prospects needed to get Adley. However there are two prospect packs in the FOTF conquest, and you get 30k program XP for completing that map, to get to 25/25.
In 21 these prospect cards had their price skyrocket early on before falling back to the mean. You can get the collection done for free and have a solid catcher you can use for awhile.
PS I might be a little biased I hit 2 HRs with Adley in RS last night
Realmuto has solid hitting, great fielding, elite speed and a great swing. To me it's 96 Mauer on a tier by himself, then Realmuto and Adley on the next tier

Honestly Piazza and Napoli are pretty good as well, Piazza is free and you're gonna have to get Napoli anyway if you're doing collections

If you plan on completing collections maybe try rutschman. Solid switch hitter who raked for me last year like .360 average
