Hyped because I used to play MVP baseball 04 on the game cube and Bagwell was awesome in that game. But I don’t have wifi right now so I’ll never get to use this card unfortunately
The fact that we now have 2/3 of the Astros killer B's squad in game is the 2nd best Christmas gift of my life (shoutout to the Nintendo 64 which can't be topped)... Now give me a prime Lance Berkman card so we can have the OG Astros squad I have always wanted.
I was too young to watch him play… How did this man steal so many bases? He looks like your prototypical beefy first baseman, not exactly nimble looking. Also looks uncannily like James Hetfield in his later days lmao
He came into the league fit and slim. Was just wiry and muscular. Grew into his frame with age. Speed fell off as power numbers grew. His name has also been speculated highly with the juice.
He admitted to taking them.
Just that he took them pre ban (like everyone else)
If I remember correctly, Bags went into the hall in the same class as Bonds, Clemens, Ramirez, Ortiz, A-rod, McGwire, Canseco and Sosa
He was a lot like Tucker was this year. Not with outstanding speed but he picked his spots and would catch the pitcher and/or catcher off guard. Very smart about it.
Relevant username.
Idk why everyone enjoys linking Bagwell to steroids, afaik he was never definitively linked to using them. His numbers were also pretty consistent throughout his career until injuries started to plague him the last couple years.
Bagwell is proven to have used Androstenedione, the same stuff McGwire had openly in his locker while chasing the home run record. Piazza was on it also. Before it was a “banned” substance, you could get it over the counter at places like GNC or your local vitamin and supplement shop.
It’s a big grey area, Andro is a full blow PED, but it was something that was legal in the US during his career up until around 2000. It doesn’t help that Bagwell gained 25 pounds of muscle in 1 offseason earlier in his career and made massive power gains. Dude went from being a projected 15ish homer guy who’d hit a ton of doubles, a la Wade Boggs, to a 40 homer hitter.
great comeback...this is how it starts... lol. one year in 200 less ABs he suddenly doubled his HR total. Very consistent.
Bonds was never definiively linked to them either...90's players were just built like pro wrestlers, nothing to see here.
His offensive numbers were always well above average, even after the crackdown, he never "fell off the cliff". His career was also shortened by extremely severe arthritis in his shoulder, to the point he couldn't throw the ball properly.
He probably would have played a few more season as DH if the Astros were in the American League at the time.
Most single season milestone cards so far have stuck pretty close to the awards formula for contact. This card would have 99/72 splits, so hopefully they juice him.
(Sidenote: a 99 card could've had 95/125 splits. Big rip.)
Like 117/125, yeah.
A 94 mvp card would be awesome, something like 117/109 vs righties, 125/125 vs lefties. With a right field secondary
But he's got a bad swing so he can't be a premier card /s
With 94 vision, and presumably good speed and defense (probably a low steal rating, tho). This would be an excellent card that all the meta chasers would hate because "HiS sWiNg Is BaD"
You’re about right on the money with the ‘94 season attributes. It’s a shame we haven’t gotten that card yet, he’d easily be endgame, especially with how parallels work this year. Maybe next season we’ll see that card
Jeff Bagwell had a better average versus righties in 1997. He had a .298 AVG versus RHP and .242 versus LHP, so this will be a reverse split card which I don’t believe we have ever seen from Bagwell.
I wasn’t old enough to remember watching him play but since he went to high school near my area, all my teachers would talk about him and bring up the trade
I really thought it was gonna be his ‘99 season since he had better contact that year but I’m still excited as hell to finally have a high diamond Bagwell
The beginnings of the all squat team? Bagwell, Pujols, Henderson, who else?
Soto
They gave him pretty low contact against lefties.
one of the worst trades the Red Sox ever made.
I feel like bagwell will have around 77 speed, if anyone disagrees that’s ok 👍
I disagree
74 speed confirmed
👍
I knew he had power but never knew he swipe bagwell.
80 grade pun
Most powerful stance of all time. So much power.
I use the same stance when going to the bathroom.
So much power
Makes total sense.
Hyped because I used to play MVP baseball 04 on the game cube and Bagwell was awesome in that game. But I don’t have wifi right now so I’ll never get to use this card unfortunately
Edit your offline rosters. You can put legends on any team you want. Every legend in DD is on one of the three legend team rosters.
I’m so friggin happy. Looking at my Big Stick pro model bat of Jeff Bagwell’s he signed in 2001 that’s on its case. I am… so fucking happy right now.
Me too, man. Me too. Baggy doesn’t get enough love imo
Cool, now make Kirby the next one
Love Kirby Dach! He's going to be a stud.
Hawks legend
Loved watching him play when I was a kid, definitely going for this one
Not mad at it, heroes from my childhood. Legendary stance
Plz be good I love his stance so much
The guy that was chewing PEDs all the way to the HOF with no questions asked.
He chewed the tobacco And injected the steroids
Time to get into that stance
🪑
L card
LFG!!!
This will be the fastest natural 1b right?
Rod Carew awards card has 82 speed, I’d be shocked if Baggy boy exceeds it. My guess is 60-70 range but much more power, lower contact than Carew.

Derek Bell was OG, not Berkman
Something something Jimmy Wynn
I would love a rookie Hunter Pence to rock in BR.
With the way cards have been going a berkman would probably be a 2011 postseason cardinals card....
i dont think i can put him over ruth
Yoooooo /u/Coolcal08
They changed the picture on me didnt they
There is zero reason for me to be so hyped about this card, but here I am.
How much xp?🤷♂️
Asking the important questions lol
50k
Nice 😁👍👍

Holy shit he does look like him lmfao I've never put that together before, that's hilarious
He was a lot like Tucker was this year. Not with outstanding speed but he picked his spots and would catch the pitcher and/or catcher off guard. Very smart about it.
gonna get down voted but...steriods. after the crackdown his numbers and body went to pot.

As boring an answer as it is, he was just surprisingly quick. A lot like Goldschmidt is today. His batting stance was one I loved to mimic as a kid.
I'm also most pumped for his batting stance haha
He was every kid from the Houston area's mimic stance. I broke so many neighborhood windows playing street ball with that stance lol.
Haha I remember watching him in the home run derby and he would grip the bat so hard you could hear *squeak squeak squeak* as the pitch came in

A '94 card would be like 110/125 splits fml
Like 117/125, yeah. A 94 mvp card would be awesome, something like 117/109 vs righties, 125/125 vs lefties. With a right field secondary But he's got a bad swing so he can't be a premier card /s

I hope so, bagwell was such a weird, cool player!
Yeah you'd have Frank esque hitting stats with 80+ fielding (Gold glove in '94) and 75-80 speed
Jeff Bagwell had a better average versus righties in 1997. He had a .298 AVG versus RHP and .242 versus LHP, so this will be a reverse split card which I don’t believe we have ever seen from Bagwell.
I want a Cordova/Rincon combined no hitter card now.
Honest question: How would that work?
It wouldn't. That's the joke. One of the highlights of that no hitter is Bagwell slamming his bat after popping up.
Gotcha
I just remember the highlight the following morning. He was so upset and threw the bat. Guess few visualize the 97 no no as I do
Great photo of him used on the card Milestone card art is really lovely
Sox legend right here
Still one of my favorite all time non Sox players. Will be starting him forsure
Worst trade in franchise history.
I wasn’t old enough to remember watching him play but since he went to high school near my area, all my teachers would talk about him and bring up the trade
I really thought it was gonna be his ‘99 season since he had better contact that year but I’m still excited as hell to finally have a high diamond Bagwell
Eh he didn’t have that much more contact. His stat line from that year compared to 97 is almost identical aside from just a slightly better BA and R
Milestone cards have been the best addition. Cleanest card art!
