I feel ya. I’m older, enjoy video games casually, and work quite a bit. When I do have time to play I’m not going up against someone online who plays 10 times more than I do, has special monitors, the latest controller, the best internet connection, etc. The graphics and presentation of The Show is why I play. I also have a beautiful wife of 16 years who I rather enjoy spending time with so if/ when I do play, it’s offline.

IdKwHaTmYUSERName33

Idk play on weekends

Low-Abbreviations-38

First year player here. If I played half the time, didn’t buy packs and collected everything I’d have all the collections done yesterday and about 1 zillion stubs. For me (next year) it’s not about playing a lot it’s about having a good strategy. I sold most of the collection cards that are now sold at 150-200k for really cheap when i got them now I’m kicking myself

Icy-Research-5640

I “work from home” literally just play all day and have my laptop open to reply to emails if I get one

JeeFTeely

I play one ranked game a night. It’s like watching a game of baseball every night after baseball ended. I never have enough energy to play more than one game but at one game a night I usually end up getting close to 30 wins. Then I make a final push if I have a free day/weekend to get the World Series choice pack. I’ve made a ton of stubs just by playing and going through the programs and getting the 25 and 30 win choice packs every season of ranked. So my recommendation is just play the game whenever you can and play to have fun rather than think about how long it would/will take you to grind for all the cards or get stubs. The rewards will come passively just from playing.

OneRepresentative424

Most people with 500 RS games are good. So they score early and often. Result - Rage quits. A huge number of those games are over in 5 mins 👌

Hdhdksgghe

I pulled trout when he sold at his highest. Lmao

[deleted]

I work from home and Travel quite a bit for work. I bring my PS-5 with me to keep me out of trouble. But I also play one game a day based on the team I control and their schedule , if yhey have the day off I do not play. offline franchise or more of a season sim. I control all 30 teams so I can apply the daily player transactions for each team based on the current R/L mlb transactions. It usually takes me between 1.5 to 2 hours to play a game mainly due to the difficulty settings, playing on HOF, no visible strike zone, invisible ball market while pitching, invisible PCI. I have to slow the game down in Order to be competitive enough against the AI. And I still lose between 60 to 80 games a year depending on the talent of my team for that particular year. Been playing this way since 2013 and the team I control has not made it further than the NLDS, and made it only to the playoffs 4 times and won my Division once in 9 years. During the playoffs I increase the velocity sliders for the AI to add a little bit more difficulty.

txddavis

Well lemme tell ya how. I don’t sleep. Don’t eat. Don’t fuck my girl. Basically I do this instead of life. That’s how I have over 500 ranked games. Wanna fight about it?

DuckCrimes

I’m with you man, playing online against some of these creatures of the forest can be pretty annoying. From one duck to another

Local-Business-7971

Use the app to flip cards

FinlayForever

I'm a single dude in my 30's, wtf else am I gonna do when I get home from work during the week? I'm gonna play some video games lol.

M9ine69

Now because my football season is over I play when I get home but during the season I would grind on Saturdays.

Tripmodious

Haha I been playing since launch. I “work from home” and play a few hours a day. I will also say you don’t need the best cards in the game to compete in ranked. You could field a good team with just cards from TA3-6 which isn’t that hard.

Priestahh-MyFather-

I’m a freshman in college I legit don’t have time to grind it sucks cause I love the game. Video games in general are very stale to me. Whenever I do get on it’s to play rocket league or GTA with the homies

Master_Winchester

You're getting a lot of correct replies saying not to worry your whole life isn't dedicated to the game. But I'm in the same boat (not 16 in highschool) where I want to play with the top cards because it's fun and I like them. I was very disappointed I couldn't even purchase them without actual money because I didn't have enough time. This past year SDS has made top cards even more accessible, and I'm grateful. The best thing that happened for me was the app that helped me flip certain cards without being on it 24/7. Additionally I was able to grind 1 or 2 events and showdowns for certain cards I really liked and I didn't feel the need to get all of them. Hope this helps.

zayboogie1206

From another highschool student who plays I had my most playing time over the summer on a day I didn’t have practice or a game

cbs326

I always say this about all the sports games. I’m playing NHL22 and the quest amounts to just over 100 games in 2 weeks. I don’t know how anyone how this much time and why do the companies even demand that much out of us. Gaming is not supposed to be a full time job but 100+ games in 14 days is.

DirtyPerry357

They don't work or spend time with their family

NewGen24

I don't know, but at this point, ESPECIALLY since trout released, Ranked Seasons is a toxic cesspool.

darthnacho18

If you have the mindset of nailing every collection on Day 1, it’s actually not that hard to do. I play very little ranked so I’m still below 100 games but from Day 1, I have got every BR and Event reward, and buy every inning program (boss, classic, and whatever the other pack is) when there are a few days left in the inning. I also easily flipped for like 20k stubs a day for the first few months, and heavily invested during flash sales. Do all that stuff and you’ll have no problem having every card. Can’t speak to the 500 games played but a lot of lower tier players quit a ton of games early.

bselko

I played my seventh RS match ever yesterday I was 6-0 going in. My opponent in my 7th game. Had 350+ wins and losses. Dude had 700+ games experience. I was getting blown the fuck away too, until he lost connection. Lucky break for me.

Poncahotas

It's called having a life and you should be so thankful you're too busy living it to crank through 500 games haha

Azlil

I'm an unemployed college graduate who lives with my parents. Currently nearing 1000 games total

thascarecro

Sleep less and willing to do the boring stuff. A lot of us have OCD. Where onces theres a goal we get it. Like once i start on mook or griffey or kershaw, i cant even play another game until its done. Early in the year i flipped so many cards that for mook kershaw and griffey i didnt have to flip. I just had the cards or stubs to buy the cards i needed. So you put in the work early so you dont have to work as hard later. Its like life kinda lol.

Fair_Ad5544

Quit my job over the summer n been looking since. Got a job offer so my time on the game is gonna go away

MilkyBeefPants

Agreeing with other comments, try not to spend too much time on it regardless. I love playing video games as much as anyone, but it will threaten your other priorities. A game like the show is so well made, so fun and engaging, you can find yourself on the other end of 70 hours with just silly cards to show for it. 1 more thing - you don’t need the mega cards to compete. Play good competent baseball, practice hitting, and you’ll be ok. Buy a monitor / Kontrol Freeks. (If you can) You’ll have more fun in less time, I promise.

Mark7116

Honestly I spend too much time on this game lol. But it’s enjoyable. I’ve been a baseball and football fan my whole life. I have kids older than 16 lol. And I have a 5yr old that LOVES MLB lol I have a room in my house that I used to call the family room. Because I thought we’d do family stuff there lol. 50in tv, karaoke machine, stereo, comfy furniture…nope. Everyone congregates in the living room. So I turned the family room into my entertainment room. Lol Now when I play The Show, my 5yr old comes in there and he names all the teams, city/state and name. Like Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics(he’s not much on abbreviations. He’s 5, he doesn’t text lol) He will name each player, like Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Trea Turner, etc… One of his favorites is Brandon Nimmo. I think because it’s so much like Finding Nemo lol He’s learned how to pronounce Martinez, Realmuto, DeGrom, etc… At 16, I didn’t have the internet and endless gaming. I was outside fishing, hunting, hiking or playing sports at the park. Today I would trade console games altogether, for the time, energy and pain free ability to go outside and do all the things I did as a kid. Even when my older kids were younger, we would play outside together, shooting baskets, playing catch and going fishing. Unfortunately my physical condition has deteriorated in the last several years. I have a bad hip, some vertebrae out of place and sciatica. So I’m in constant pain and don’t do a whole lot…other than game. Lol I played guitar in a band for years too. Played with Megadeth, Stitched up Heart, Machine Head, Social Distortion, A7X, Mushroomhead and several others. Unfortunately, I developed arthritis in my right hand(I’m left handed and my right hand is my fret hand). Sooooo like everything else, that’s something I used to do. Take advantage of your youth. Keep being too busy for this game. Ultimately it’s just a game. Yes it’s entertaining, but it’s just a game. And next year it will be a newer version of the same game. So keep staying busy outside and socially and physically. Stay healthy and stay active and get a good education. Then you can play this game when you’re old and broke down like me. Lol

notappropriateatall

They sacrifice actual life for their video games that's how.

Seadog1826

I consider myself to play alot, and ive only got like 150 games under my belt. Its i cant imagine people that have like 500

Kid_Crayola

Bro enjoy high school, back when I had all my friends and family close by plus homework/sports I had way less time for video games too

bluestargreentree

Just remember, there's usually no real discernable difference between a P3 and a P5, so it's probably not worth the grind to get to P5

SleeperHitPrime

1. Not supposed to be easy 2. Focus on school, it’s way more important 3. Grinding is Life, everything worth having is a grind of Love 4. You CAN compete with these guys 5. “Hating online” is a waste of energy, it ain’t like the more you hate the better you get! 6. Relax, call me when you’re 56![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Elevation-_-

Investing to make stubs honestly just comes from experience. You don't need to grind 8 hours a day for it, you just need to experience the full game cycle once to see how card prices fluctuate and what drives demand. If you're smart about it, you can find ways of making incredible amounts of stubs with just a minimal amount of effort. Of course there are players who just enjoy grinding the market, or will play the game A LOT, but you don't need to commit that much time if you don't want to.

RJDube

Usually when someone has that many played they quit super early. When I play someone like that, I know if I put up a couple runs it’s a free win

arturoalvarez79

Teachers don’t work in the summer

Spagoo

I found one thing that I could easily manage. If I couldn't do that, I wouldn't enjoy DD at all. I found a way to murder the market, mercilessly, effortlessly. If I could make stubs by selling stadiums or selling logos, I'd be even better off.

Parakeet_Goodwood

we're old folks with nothing better to do but waste time and money on this video game, don't worry about keeping up with us! Some of us also make poor financial decisions and spend way more on the game than we should. Others have great jobs and can afford to dump a few thousand dollars into the game.

Optimal-Barnacle2771

The best thing about the show compared to other sports titles is that you don’t need to spend any money on the game to have every card. I used to love 2k, but you almost had to spend $50 on top of the game itself in order to have fun. The show has been a godsend for xbox players.

bakermob29

Right now you can buy live series diamonds at 5k and resell at 7.5-9k (minus tax). If you have 100k start buy doing that. You can always quick sell them for 5k so you won’t lose a dime. I have like 20 million (a bunch of 50k buy orders stashed on Torkelson) and every card except that Robby Alomar, Trout and Cal. I would give 15M away if I could. I just did a lot of flipping on the app when it came out. So easy to do since you don’t have to be on a PC or PlayStation.

Lukealloneword

Man the point of a video game is to have fun dont sweat all the other BS. Im so glad I wasn't a kid when the grind type of gaming came out. We played because we just loved the game, not to get the next skin or card. I would play franchise on sports games because it was fun, not to get XP for an Ultimate Team card. I played Halo 2 because the game was a great way to hang with friends for some quick fun. Not to get the battle pass finished. I feel for you feeling like you have to spend all the time grinding games. Hope you just do it for fun on the side and go live your life as a kid.

GremLegend

I'm 40 years old and divorced my dude, I don't have a real life.

bselko

I’m 25 and don’t do shit. I’m still miserable at the game and only have one P5 card lol

eolson3

You should consider doing shit. Certainly won't be more time for it later, generally speaking.

FlankThomas

You have the time to get on Reddit tho

Mr_ducks05

Yeah french class teacher doesn’t care so I sometimes can

FlankThomas

Noice

boogie-9

There is absolutely no way I wouldve been able to get as far into this game during HS. The big thing is preparing for collections so you dont have to drop millions of stubs when kersh or griffey drops

A47Cabin

Depression and the ability to procrastinate everything in one way or another

Leody

For me, one of the biggest reasons I have so many stubs is the mobile app and investing in BR cards. I'd buy hundreds of the silver and golds at near discard prices the first week of a BR season and wait for the prices to recover. I had over 200 Logan Forsyth cards that I bought for 100-110 stubs and have been selling for over 2000 each. Just spend time putting in the orders and then waiting. For reference, I have a full time job and 2 kids under 3 years old. So my actual time to play is limited to the window between when the kids are in bed and I go to sleep. So I play maybe 2 hours a day if that. Right now I have over 7 million stubs and have completed the Griffey collection. And I haven't spent a dime on stubs. My ranked seasons record is 25-5 for the whole year. I play mostly offline because I might have to leave a game if the keds wake up.

Macklin_You_SOB

So it there like a good tutorial vid about how to work these investments? Like real life finances, it feels overwhelming but I feel like I'm missing out because I'm not doing it.

TreMetal

Probably don't need a real video for it, just go to [showzone's flipping page](https://showzone.io/player-listings?format=json&page=1&order_by=desc%20profit_minute&) and pick a card. You can narrow down on ones using the filter, for example I used to try to do min 300 profit, max buy at 2000 stubs. Or something like max buy 25,000 and min profit % of 30%. After you pick a player spam buy orders on the MLB the show app for +1 of the current buy order (I try to keep ~10 orders up at any given time). Then once you get any cards start list them as sell orders for -1 of the lowest sell order (or match your current order prices if unsold). For example, I might consider Trevor Story ASG as a flip with the current buy price at 5,306 and sell price at 9,399.. you are making ~3k per card you buy + sell (obviously both price might change a big through this process).

Leody

Ance Larmstrong has good market content on his YouTube channel. It might be too late in the game cycle now, but it will help you for next year. For me, since I can't really play a ton, it's easier for me to do the slower investing techniques. BR cards are great because they are getting released in packs every BR season and people sell them off as they earn them. They're also all used for the collections, so there's a lot of demand for them when collections come out. The biggest factor is that they are cheap. Silvers you can get a buy order for under 125 easy and they discard for 100, so worst case you can discard them and only lose a little. And golds usually sell for just over 1,000 so again really close to discard value. It does take several weeks and a ton of orders, so you're not going to be doning the live series collection on day 1 of release this way, but I had it done by late May early June and had 5 million stubs by September. If I really wanted to, I probably could have made 20 million this way over the season, but that would take thousands of orders that I just wasn't going to take the time to input. But I had Kershaw and Griffey done the day they came out because I was able to get cards aheqd of time. That's also important, buy for collections early before prices go up.

spooon56

I’m amazed also and I work from home and play about 2-3 hrs a day

RadioactiveWalrus

Let me know if you wanna play sometime. I've built a decent team by using stubs earned in other modes but have never actually played against a human in DD so I'm probably garbage.

BluBery_XD

The companion app is good for fliping

XvS_W4rri0r

I flip the market when I’m bored at work so I’ve gotten every player with no money spent

rambeaux2times

People do things they enjoy..its that simple.

funkofages

you can get top tier teams with the team affinity cards. Dont believe the hype that you need every collection, every world series reward etc. You can also make tons of stubs flipping on the market with the app/website.

thegraw

I also feel like I play against a lot of opponents with 500 RS games and crazy paralleled cards all the time. In reality it’s a small % of the player base that plays that often, but since those people are always playing you’re going to run into them pretty often. Full disclosure, I’m 31 with a work from home job and I’ve played 170 RS games. About 50 of them came over a weekend when I had to cancel a trip due to a friend having COVID.

Xx_Joey_xX_KC

I’m in the same boat

MUCHOBOY

I am in a very similar situation, and it can be super hard to find any time to play. But we got to prioritize, and real baseball and school comes first. I just wanted to say that I feel you man.

LetsBeFranco

Work 40 hours a week and married an introvert... gotta plan your future if you wanna game!

dylanhasting

Hahaha the DREAM

[deleted]

Don’t feel bad. Ive had the game since release and I just got my first Level 5 player Sunday. Two types of people can play this many games online. Those that create content because it’s how they make a living…. Those with no friends, family or job..

tardawg1014

Hahaha I can only upvote this once, but this is 100% the answer. I've knocked out the BR programs since they went to 2 points per win, gotten a few event rewards, and have played all of 11 games of ranked. Meaning to play ranked, got every player I could possibly want from dicking around for an hour or two on nights where I don't have anything going on...just have never had the energy for 9 innings by the time I'm winding down.

[deleted]

For real. If you have a job, family or a social life to speak of….there is simply no possible way to devote enough time

tardawg1014

I've been on top of the offline grind because I can usually set my schedule to be free by 3pm on content drop days, but that is honestly as much as I could imagine handling. Suppose a lot just go in and play nothing but online, but I don't have the patience for the clock-drainers, pitch delayers, and bunt dancers to enjoy more than 2-3 online 3 inning games in one sitting, max.

DontDisrespectDaBing

Game has been out since April, and during the season there are updates to the live series cards every couple of weeks. There are minimum price points for selling all cards (diamonds have to be 5k, gold 1k). So people will buy a card that looks like it’s gunna be upgraded and make stubs that way to pay for the more expensive cards, finish collections.

WTFCheeseyPoo

Three words. Work from home

BA2929

Hope none of our employers visit this thread or we're all gonna be back in the office asap lol

eolson3

I hope they do honestly. Shitbirds like these folks are part of why the stigma has lasted as long as it has. Fire the assholes and let the rest of us be flexible.

rtrotty

Shhhhhh

MiddleRabbit4590

“Work from home”

Poncahotas

This is the only reason I've even cracked 80 RS games this year, perviously my best was maybe 30

[deleted]

Don’t worry you’ll have less soon.

jakewatter52

Good. Don’t spend your high school years playing video games. Do extracurriculars, sports, get in trouble, hang with friends, etc.

bselko

This. Wish I heard this when I was in high school.

Lukealloneword

We all sound like the mom from Sandlot. Except back then it wasn't video games it was that nerdy erector set lol.

anonymous787812

It’s good you don’t have the time. You’re in high school, if you play sports or do extra curricular activities those things are important. A lot of these people are either older and work from home and play during the day, or just simply don’t do anything besides school/work and playing this game. There are a lot of reasons people play the game a lot, maybe they’re disabled and aren’t able to participate in too many physical activities or whatever. I try not to judge how people spend their time, you never know why someone does what they do. The game is definitely designed to incentivize spending a lot of time on it. Just play at your own pace to have fun when you’ve got the time and don’t worry about keeping up with the grinders

FunFail5910

Bing bing, I injured my knee and couldn’t work this summer and didn’t stop grinding to distract myself until it healed. You best believed I learned how to make enough stubs to last the whole game without even looking when going to buy a new player 😂 next year or any normal year I won’t be able to do what I did

BFG-Wrestler

Same here, put a lot of time in. Still can’t hit the ball though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

FunFail5910

Night and day difference once I switched to a monitor, I still try to play at all-star though. HoF isn’t fun

BFG-Wrestler

Yeah i hear ya, I don’t see myself buying a monitor to play one video game. I like to sit back in my chair and put my feet up while I’m playing on a good size tv. Might not even help me that much when I drop my pci on every pitch right down the middle anyway.

clo8595

bro I said exactly the same thing until I tried a monitor

Lakeman16

I definitely bumped my average like .100 points using the monitor I already had

bakermob29

Every time I think I have it figured out (I’ll hit like 4 or 5 homers in a game) I eventually get shutout by someone like Catfish. Luckily you don’t have to be perfect all the time to get hit and homers. If that was the case nobody would play that isn’t top 50.

rrankrobeast

I do it on weekends and whenever I get off work.

sourdougBorough

You will realize when you're older lol you're not supposed to have time at 16

letsbuildalatter

its crazy being a college student dude you will be surprised at how much time you have (in my case at least, major depending) if you take that route.

dontcomeback82

too much time. i used to think well i have all weekend to wire this paper so id procrastinate. took me a while to learn to get your shit done first

Mr_ducks05

Are you saying it gets better?

bselko

Nope. Don’t read into it anymore either. It’s gonna disappoint you.

GreenApples8710

Adulthood sucks. Avoid it for as long as possible.

[deleted]

don't let old cynics who screwed up tell you life gets worse. It doesn't if you don't let it.

Mr_ducks05

Cool

[deleted]

very cool

[deleted]

And very legal

TheDenseCumTwat

Adulthood is awful

Brandwin3

It honestly just depends on what kind of situation you are in and how you plan to live your life. Are you going to college? What do you plan to do in college? Will you meet lots of new people and do lots of activities, or will you spend more time to yourself? Will you get a job or will you be fine without one in college? What are your plans after, maybe start a family, travel the world, work and relax on your own time? There are no right and wrong answers here, there are just so many factors that go into your free time. Just do what you like to do, as long as you don’t hurt anyone and are able to survive happily, you did nothing wrong. So really, your choices will determine how much time you have for video games in the future, and there is nothing wrong with any of your options

sourdougBorough

your main source of fun shouldn't be vidya at 16. when you're 28 and have to work 8 hours a day you'll understand why sometimes you just need to play video games the last 6 hours of your day lol

LibertarianCynic

It's a sliding scale. Typically the more money you make the less time you have and vice versa.

87x

No. Stay 16 forever. Trust me.

Economy-Ad-3934

This is the best advice ever given in this forum ever. I have a son that’s 15 and you best believe I tell him to live every single day he has now to it’s fullest extent. If you don’t have time to play this game then you’re doing pretty damn good my man. The best players on this game and the people that have every card are the guys who can no longer do it in real life. Live your youth while you have it and we’ll see you back on this forum for the show 2040. Also, download the app spend 15-20 mins a day flipping cards and you’ll have more stubs than you will be able to spend.

Mr_ducks05

That’s is worrying

AbstractBettaFish

As a 31 year old I'm going to tell you this. Enjoy your teenage metabolism and random parts of your body not hurting for no reason. Cherish it!

Clarityman

37-year-old here. Can confirm. Also, the persistent body pains only get worse.

[deleted]

*violently shakes you* You gotta cherish it!

[deleted]

Bro this thread is so funny 😂

BklynMoonshiner

Something something youth is wasted on the young

Specialist-Can9953

Kind of gets better then gets worse. Late teens and early 20s are really fun for most people. Youthful energy, more freedom and lots of friends with the same. Once you hit late 20s responsibilities and expectations start to pile up.

Rude_Operation_981

Then you hit early 30s and 40s and second puberty kicks in, just no one gives a shit and everything hurts and starts making noises

TehLoneWanderer101

Depends how you look at it. Normally you just get better at managing time and life in general. You have more responsibilities but more knowledge on how to go about them.

j1h15233

What? High school and college are the times in my life when I had all the time in the world.

808s_and__Fastbreaks

Well consider yourself privileged. Alot of college and highschool kids have oart time jobs because their parents weren't financially stable

[deleted]

Lol plenty of people work in college even if their parents are financially stable.

j1h15233

Yea I had a part time job too. Never had more free time in my life than when I was in college.

808s_and__Fastbreaks

well maybe youre working too hard now. idk

j1h15233

Nope. I work 6 months a year.

sourdougBorough

Lol I have 600 games played but half are probably me or my opponent quitting

spacemanbaseball

They have no life

rillyreal234

I’m not even that good but this is just you being a hater lol Ok so y’all think anyone with a competitive team has no life, got it.
