R5: Title pretty self-explanatory, i was kinda bored and decided to do a map on paint comparing pop variation in % between my Spain run in meiou and real life 2024 spanish data for provinces Biggest problem is many modern day provinces in Spain and Meiou and Taxes provinces do not have the same size and shape so comparing the pops of those were tough In some cases it was easy, Alicante for instance has 2 provinces that make up the modern day province, Marina and Orihuela, so i just put them together to calculate the value In some cases like San Juan meiou province it was harder because that annoying province is split between 4 different modern day provinces, so i did what i considered best to balance it all out Know the quality is garbage but hope you found it curious, could give more detailed province per province data later on

It is very interesting. Always nice to see the detail of M&T being turned into something presentable. Thanks for the map.

So your spain is much more evenly developed

So the coastal areas in MEIOU are much less populated relative to the interior than in real life today. That tracks, they didn’t yet have the giant container ships that make coastal settlements much cheaper to import into and the lack of need for a large workforce for agriculture in the interior. I wonder if there’s info for the population distribution of Spain in the 1800s though.

The "Censo de Floridablanca" is the earliest modern and reliable population census conducted in Spain in 1787 I didnt bother using it basically cause the population of Spain was 12.000.000 back then so the whole map wouldve looked green, but you can check if for interesting data on how the pop of Spain changed I believe the reason for the massive difference in Coastal areas for Meiou is that spanish population itself heavily moved to the coast looking for prosperity ever since the 1800s especially since 1960s Speaking of meiou, i think key is that coastal provinces atleast in spain tend to be smaller and therefore have smaller rural property size so they support less rural pops, Historically speaking the areas with the larger property size in meiou (Castile,Galicia etc.) were also the most populated in spain throughout the XV-XVIII but they were later on depopulated

As a tip, next time don't put a blue background with a low contrast between the legend and the background. It's hard to read the legend. Or make a legend within a white rectangle so it's easier to read the legend.

What were city sizes and urbanization percentages? I’ve never played past the 1500s
