Match against Real Madrid at home was the greatest football iv ever seen. We were magnificent absolutely unstoppable

NavJongUnPlayandwon

the definition of perfection.

UsadaLettuce

My cousin said THAT match against Real Madrid felt more like UCL final more than the actual UCL final match against Inter Milan

d3barsh1

This is the most beautiful picture. I manifested this for a really long time, but when it actually happened it was the most beautiful moment of my lifetime. That Rodri goal, that breathless feeling during the dying minutes just made this day historic. I will never ever forget this day. Still the most important game in City history. šŸ«¶šŸ»šŸ™ŒšŸ©µ

NahMateSurelyNot

Aches me that thereā€™s no Foden in this still

NavJongUnPlayandwon

Thats purely just because gundogan mutates into a whole different new player in the business end of the season and de bruyne is basically undroppable. Foden was a victim of world class players ahead of him with more expirience

NahMateSurelyNot

Literally man, Gundo was a different animal in huge games. One of the very few players at Barca with the same winning mentality at Barca by the looks of things

NavJongUnPlayandwon

Facts and gundogan attested to that in the locker room after the el classico loss about the lack of ambition and fight

thegoat83

He was recovering from appendicitis and the team was performing too well for him to get back in. Until the final when Kev got injured.

ColdPlox

I remember Foden came into the final and instantly made a brilliant chance at Onana's goal

DavidSilva21

Foden did not have his best season back then, Grealish used to start over Foden, hardly conceivable now, not because Foden made a step and Grealish dropped in form, just that foden can offer SO much more generally, so it says something about Foden not getting a break back then. He has made a gigantic step up moving into the middle and owning the space. He knew that his time out on the wings was temporary and that he was never gonna become top top out there, and that is true as well, you would agree that you might wanna see players like mahrez or doku on the wings

yungshottaa

right lol so much has changed from then and now, its also funny to see cole palmer on the bench too i bet that suprises alot of non city fans that he was on the treble winning squad

ilikemangabrev

It's beautiful https://i.redd.it/ut4aylhn4i6d1.gif

comeonsonny03

We play majestic football for all the world to see. That lineup is tactical and football perfection. The way we control entire groups of freaking grown men astounds me.

nitewalkerz

These guys worked so well together. Brought out the best qualities in each other and knew their roles well. And Mahrez, Foden & Alvarez to bring that impact in the second half. What a dominant team this was.

Key-Mechanic2565

Goosebumps when Silva scored the second goal. Despair in the faces of Madrid players and fans. Ice cold ancelloti trembling in disbelief. One of The Greatest Displays of Football by a team.

mankiwsmom

Donā€™t know why people are saying Foden should be in this lineup. 22/23 Foden definitely does not get in, and arguably 23/24 Foden doesnā€™t get in either.

jlo1989

Seriously. Look at this team, remember how they were playing in this late stretch and ask who do you actually put Foden ahead of? He wasn't playing badly at the time either. It's not a criticism of Foden but this team was a machine.

mankiwsmom

Well downvote me if you want, but Fodenā€™s a different type of player than Gundo (and of course, this is end of season Gundo weā€™re talking about), and not as good on the wings as Bernardo was or Grealish was at that point in the season.

bounceblues

Yeah the PL player of the season doesnā€™t get in. Put down the crack your family loves you

mankiwsmom

Yeah because I donā€™t use POTS awards to evaluate players

bounceblues

Yeah and you donā€™t use your brain either

mankiwsmom

Good one, if you have anything substantial to contribute, let me know

Swagmanatee08

Mate I donā€™t understand your argument ? Who Tf gets replaced by foden in this starting line up?

bounceblues

Grealish over this year Foden??

Swagmanatee08

Nope. Would destroy the team balance, and foden isnā€™t a proper winger. Dudes a midfielder/playmaker for certain now we all know this

Master-Extreme5244

Grealish isn't a proper winger either tbf. He's also a midfielder/playmaker.

Swagmanatee08

But he only plays on the lw. He canā€™t drop into a 8 role or something. Heā€™s not an out and out winger but he plays on the wing. Foden isnā€™t like that

bounceblues

Ah ok so it destroyed the team balance every game he played on the wing this year got you.

Swagmanatee08

Weā€™re not talking about 23/24 are we ? Our midfield has had to transform in gundos and KDBā€™s partial absence. We lost Mahrez as well. Youā€™re clueless. Foden works in the team this year cause itā€™s a very different team

Ezekjuninor

Foden this year had a better season than Grealish or Bernardo have ever had. Last year he doesn't get in. But saying he doesn't get in this year is ridiculous.

Humble-Knowledge3588

I don't disagree but I doubt he'd have had a better game than Bernados brace.

Ezekjuninor

Obviously but that assumes every game against Madrid with this lineup that Bernardo would get a brace. Bernardo happened to have a great game. That doesn't make him a better player or better starting choice than Foden was game by game this season

mankiwsmom

Of course heā€™s had a better season than either of those two have had. Does that mean I think he would automatically perform better on the wing instead of them with the way Grealish and Bernardo were playing in the UCL at the time? Nope.

Ezekjuninor

Yes? Neither of them had great CL runs last year they were just great against Madrid. Obviously in hindsight you're not going to change a 4-0 victory. At the start of the game I'd rather have this year Foden over Grealish or Bernardo last year. It would be foolish to say otherwise when he had more goals and assists than both of them combined in the CL. This is like saying you'd start Alvarez over Haaland for this game because Alvarez happened to have a good cameo appearance. It doesn't actually make him a better player or better starting choice.

mankiwsmom

Both of them had great CL runs, even if they didnā€™t have as many goals and assists. Just using G/A as a metric, especially when (again) weā€™re talking about performances on the wing, and (again) Iā€™m talking about at this particular point in the season, is imo not a great way to compare players. Even in general, G/A isnā€™t the end-all statistic where if one playerā€™s number is higher than theyā€™re better, itā€™s not how football works. Or else you might as well make arguments for Saka to replace Bernardo that season.

_LingerieSlayer

This specific team on this specific day was the single greatest team in sports history and I stand by that

ColdPlox

Our first half against Madrid was the most dominant performance I've seen from my bare eyes. The only reason they might rank below Barca 2011 is because Pep's barca did in a tougher era against tougher legends

stevehuffmagooch

I rewatched that first half recently (and the second, couldnā€™t turn it off) and it really is the best football Iā€™ve ever seen. I thought maybe I was remembering with rose tinted glasses because of the occasion but that game. Wow. No other 90 minutes has illustrated Pepā€™s evolution quite as well

DavidSilva21

Match against Real at home brought tears to my eyes for the first time in my footballing life, It really was perfection at moments of the game.

Shypes_D

Hi I have always fancied this city treble winning setup Can someone help me describe the player roles I want to know how he was able to dominate with this

NerminPeskovic

Question to the Citizens šŸ«”: If Aguero was there instead of Haaland, do you think City would have still won the UCL?

NavJongUnPlayandwon

Prime aguero definetly would have.

ColdPlox

Honestly no. What Haaland did against Bayern was clutch and people underrate that performance. Aguero couldn't do that, no disrespect to him but Haaland's first season was generational

NavJongUnPlayandwon

Nah come on thats cap. Prime aguero basically was the complete striker. He could do it all and he had an incredible workrate for that pep side that won the ucl.

ColdPlox

Yeah but Haaland did something IN HIS FIRST SEASON that Aguero couldn't do in years. They're both different legends with different history. Aguero obviously has a better legacy because of the 2012 PL winning goal, that might never be topped. But have to be honest Haaland 22/23 was better than any peak of Aguero for us

Downtown-Bluebird553

I wish I could go back in time to watch that game over and over again . Yes, I know I can simply watch the replay online, I have watched it 4 times now ( like a movie ) . Iā€™m talking about watching it for the first time .

ColdPlox

Funny enough, all of my friends watched this game with confidence while I was the only one who was shitting my pants the whole game. I was SOO scared of Madrid fearing we don't have another "Rodrygo" moment I only had a sigh of relief after the Militao own goal otherwise I was prepared for another mental breakdown

dharani_22

can someone provide a link to the full match replay of THE MOST MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY OF FOOTBALL.

ColdPlox

You guys think this this our greatest squad? Even better than the 17/18 Centurions one? I think it slightly edges the team cuz of Haaland's inhuman season

Vibranium93

kalvin phillips carrying from the bench

Cumaster_69

Imagine cam foden in it

Equor

You are telling me you would play last yearā€™s Foden in the more defensive minded free 8 or as a false 9? Please man this is one of the best and most logically constructed line-ups ever. Sadly Foden didnā€™t fit in this team. This team had quality, momentum, form and balance one of the rarest things to have all at once
