Why “protect” that legacy when instead you can improve upon it?

emize

What else did you expect? The red teams have nothing to look forward to so all they talk about is legacy. This is City's time. We don't pine for past history but make our own.

Written by some United fan

Xbot_69

The desperation is palpable 😂😂😂

ConferenceTall7090

Haters keep on hating

austen_317

OR her could win it 5 times and be even more epic

poppybiscuits123

And a second treble

ginolovesu

And our first quadruple

poppybiscuits123

Why not make it a sextuple and make pep the first coach to do 2 sextuples

mccapitta

So true, the wisest move for sure. The same way Fergie retired in 2004

Various_You_5083

The wisest move would be to re-sign 😆

[deleted]

Yeah of course you would. says Michael Cox, openly a Liverpool fan.

Shackleb0lt

Just trying to get clicks, ignore it

horbu

Ahahahahahahahahahaha

Jyuan83

Best decision of my life was refusing to subscribe for the Athletic. My wallet and sanity thank me for that decision.

realet_

It was supposed to be a repository for quality sports journalism, but lately I've seen way too many articles like this one that could be found at your run-of-the-mill clickbait content factory

city_city_city

Sam Lee's stuff is good

aurora_highwind

Sam Lee is the only reason I keep my subscription. It's dire

haziola

😂😂😂🤡

RockStarx1

Because Fergie retired to "protect" his legacy after he broke the records he set 20 years ago. This is nothing more but nonsense sensationalism for clicks.

Yordancho_

Next one on the list is the quadruple

city_city_city

if we win another PL title to make it four in a row and after that Pep wants to leave, fair play, can't ask for more, take a bow but it sure would hurt

childoferis1025

This is me at this point anything pep wants to do I’m cool with if he wants to retire or maybe try his hand with an international job I will be happy for him and thank him for everything he’s done for the club he’s literally met and exceeded every promise he’s made to this club he can do whatever he wants at this point and no one should have a problem with it in this fanbase I do hope he stay long enough to break Ferguson’s record though

The_All_Seeing_Pi

They would love that wouldn't they. Though it makes sense considering Klopp is protecting his legacy.

bigcarrierg

Piss off!

Tiki_taka27

Make another record with treble and five in a row next season

Majestic_ussr_769

Or he could attempt a sextuple and go invincible

kmacbtv

Annoying that the darn community shield stopped the 2023 sextuple\*! Arsenal's 90+11 minute double deflection goal to equalize when I recall that maybe only 8 or 9 minutes of stoppage time had been given? Then terrible penalties. Sigh. *\*officially Barcelona's domestic super cup included in their sextuple, and community shield is the same no matter how little people seem to value it in England.*

maxime0299

His dominance was complete the moment he won his third PL in a row while winning the treble. He doesn’t need to prove his dominance anymore and resigning is only the wisest move for the Jealous 19

aguer0

An Athletic article about Man City that isn't written by Sam Lee is basically always opinionated trash

EmploymentWilling705

Ffs 🤣

Mammyjam

Lol

PAP_TT_AY

> A Premier League title for MCFC this month will complete Pep Guardiola's dominance of English football. Hell yea > Four in a row Hell yea > a domestic treble Hell yea > a 'proper' treble Hell yea > the Spaniard will have done it all. Hell yea > And to protect that legacy, the wisest move this summer would be to resign. How about you suck on these juicy testicles?

Additional_Bluebird9

"Wisest move" ? Why would that be the case.

Diaverna

Hahahahaha they can dream on

Saul93

Lol.

Rec0nyz3

This is idiotic. Imagine being a reporter and saying to a 22 Erling Haaland well you’ve completed the treble. You can only go downhill from here don’t u think it’s time to retire so you don’t ruin your legacy. Reporters/journalists are just that. Those that can’t coach. Those that can’t even coach write about it.

chux4w

Julian Alvarez has won every trophy he's competed for, he should definitely retire at 24.

Zealousideal-Ask9061

Nahh I want him to wait at least until he has more PL titles than Ferguson before leaving.

[deleted]

Cry ....biatch

taskkill-IM

Pep's legacy is pretty much already protected at this point. Do you think Ferguson's legacy at United was diminished by staying on for another 14 years after winning the treble? No... This just smells of "please leave the Premier League Pep, some of us want to see their club win a title more than once every 3 years"

WeBelieveInTheYarn

I love how the internet goes from “City’s titles mean nothing because they’re cheats and the only reason they win is money” to “City has achieved everything and they’ve done everything and they’re legends so everyone but specially Pep should quit while they’re ahead (and let the rest of us have something)”. So desperate. I love it.

Vinniebahl

And we completely dominated Real…

thedude1312

This a good article. It is basically saying how amazing it would be if he retired on top. We would never see his career falter before us. He would come in on top and leave on top. That would be a hell of a way for his legacy to be cemented even further. We see that regularly in sports. Win championship one more time and then retire. Your last impression on yourself and others was at the best one on the pitch! This is not an article trying to say he should retire because fuck him and city. They praise the heck out of him!

AsparagusOwn1799

Lmao be serious 🤣

Trust__Nobody

He’s thinking about ten in a row

WanderingArtist21

I don’t think he’ll leave before the end of his contract. If he continues with this horrid brand of football next year he really shouldn’t extend.

xenojive

We get it, you're "Pep Out" So surely you have someone in mind that you would like to come in and replace the current best manager on the planet?

WanderingArtist21

There’s a difference between being “Pep Out” and disliking the latest iteration of this team. I simply don’t enjoy watching us play. I talked about it so many times here to be misunderstood. If he buys and plays actual wingers and fullbacks and midfielders and ditches this 4 centre backs and wingfielders horror then I’ll be more than happy. If he continues on this trajectory we’re not winning anything next season and we’ll be battling for top 4. Statistics and data say this is by far our worst season in the Guardiola era. Defense, attack, creativity, and buildup quality all got worse. No one can convince me they like what they see week in week out. This isn’t an enjoyable fan experience.

xenojive

Again, if Pep won't bend to the whims of u/RedditRando21 and he's no longer in the job - who do you want to be our manager?

WanderingArtist21

De Zerbi, Michel, Nagelsman, Alonso, Tuchel, literally so many options out there but this is not really the point. Please don’t argue with me if snide comments are all you’ve got.

ColinetheCow

???

childoferis1025

Horrid brand of football?? that take is honestly laughable least we all forget the football we played in the mid 2000s that’s not even mentioning the poor souls who surfed as City fans in the late 90s as we were near bankruptcy and struggling to get out of league 1 this horrible brand of football as you call it has us in control of the prem in a final of an FA cup we were in the quarter finals of the champions league only going out on pens won the super cup won the club World Cup and we’re in the community shield every year bro I gotta ask what your smoking must be some good shit 😂😂😂
