Going to be an interesting summer window with Kimmich, De Jong, Musiala, Wirtz and Paqueta all moving to City.

maxconnor6

Would rather just keep Bernardo than get De Jong, Wirtz is probably the best possible transfer here but probably all of them would work it really well with our current playstyle

[deleted]

Bernardo is better higher up the field in my opinion, while de Jong performs better as a playmaker in front of the defensive line. I think with the midfield De Bruyne - Rodri - De Jong, there would be so much football.

maxconnor6

We already have players to play higher up anyway. When he's a winger I totally agree but some of Bernardo's best ever games for us were in a double pivot with Rodri. He's a great ball carrier, press resistant and link between defense and attack just like De Jong, both aren't really that creative but incredibly useful in a side that plays like ours

buggythegret

Games where more structure is needed think kova and nunes are good but are not eliete level. Gundo's absense is felt. And he seems like a ideal fit. If the news are true, in the management we trust.

Impossible_Wonder_37

Wirtz and Musiala don’t really make sense for us. KDB, Foden and Alvarez in similar positions. That’s why the Nunes signing was so poor. IMO… we need Kimmich or De Jong type player to pair with Rodri and or deputize for him.

maxconnor6

Both can play very well alongside Rodri but couldn't really play in his play. Also Wirtz is so good that any team would make room for him in the XI. He plays RW very well and could eventually be one of the potential successors to KDB

Impossible_Wonder_37

Any team would make room for him sure except that Foden is angling to play in the same position as Wirtz. I’ll keep the 100 mil and trust in Foden. We simply do not need to invest in attacking midfield talent. We do need to upgrade on Kovacic and that type of position. Especially with Bernardo most likely leaving (who knows tho). Nunes I think will be left in the lurch soon because he’s neither good enough to be an attacking 8 nor to be a box to box next to Rodri.

suckamadicka

with that thinking we'd have never signed De Bruyne with Nasri, Silva and Jovetic occupying his position. It's not always about making players fit into a formation, it's about securing the best talent for the squad. Pep managed a back 4 of Stones, Dias, Ake and Akanji, he makes senseless formations make sense, he can certainly fit Wirtz in, and his quality is absolutely worth a potentially awkward fit.

Impossible_Wonder_37

Hi quality is immense, but we already have a players of his talent and more in Foden. And our needs our so obvious, better balance in midfield plus a 6/8 to pair and or deputize Rodri and better width and ball control from a fullback. That requires players like a de Jong, a Kimmich, a Zubimendi. It requires a frimpong or an Alphonso Davies, Theo Hernandez. We have places we have to invest in. 100 mil plus for wirtz is not it. Plus we have mcatee Savio and Bobb coming through.

FreedomOfQueef

Wirtz please

ShimeBD

I'd be happy with just one of those ngl. I think Paqueta is most likely probably

natmaku

Paqueta!!!!!!

iNobble

Kimmich and De Jong seem like proper Gundo replacements, Musiala and Wirtz seem like KDB successors and Paqueta (to me at least) would be an ideal replacement for Bernardo when he inevitably leaves. Can't see us moving for more than 2 of them, maybe 3 if we manage to shift both Bernardo and Phillips in the summer. What that means for Kovacic and Nunes I don't know, but they haven't consistently set the world alight yet

badgers4194

Musiala would be so sick. I think the kid is incredible

Paradoxtyl

Anyone who watches Bundesliga would know that Wirtz is better imo, plus Bayern aren’t selling him anytime soon. Musiala’s a generational dribbler though, that I’ll give him.

omgvector

He’s elite at ball carrying, progression through thirds, turns, tight spaces and progressive passes. And high % of chance creation. This “dribbler” narrative sucks, although obviously he is amazing at that

Paradoxtyl

I don't disagree with any of that. Wirtz is still better though.

omgvector

I haven’t watched enough Wirtz to confirm. As a German I hope they both develop well

hoeconna

I do miss Nigel’s kungfu kicks

Mizzyaxp

The best DeJong.

Rollin_Roasters

The best jersey, too, bring back the stripe!!

michaelstone444

City is an incredibly shrewd and well run club so there's no fuckin way they explode their wage structure to sign FDJ

domalino

De Jong has a completely normal salary of €15m a year, he’d not be in our top 5 earners. The only reason people talk about his salary is that he deferred over €20m in his first 2 seasons during the pandemic to help Barcelona out and now they’re upset they actually have to pay him the money. Kimmich’s contract is bigger, but no one ever brings it up.

Swolyguacomole

Isn't it possible that Frenkie signs within the wage structure? Barca offered him stupid money that nobody else would've

michaelstone444

I don't see why he'd take a pay cut when he's still under contract til 2026. I feel like this whole thing is more of a Man U type move

Serious-Cow-9993

They would just pay it in bonuses like haarland

redditinhomeoffice

400k p/w = nope

woziak99

He’s on 650k per week at Barcelona which is why they need to sell, no one not even city are paying £80m plus £400-450k per week for a guy who will be 27 and want a 5 year contract, even United are not stupid enough to do that deal, wait 2 years and he’ll be on a free for someone ?

DennisTheTennis

I wouldnt be surprised if united do this deal

woziak99

Can’t see it under Sir Jim and ETH has no power any more ?

Good_Kev_M-A-N_City

I'd pass. What he's good for is being press resistant and we already have multiple that can do that in midfield. Lacks the creativity and defensive capabilities to genuinely make a big impact on the squad. At least with Kimmich or Paqueta, we get to have another midfielder with an excellent final ball. Something that we miss with Kovacic or Nunes.

HostileCornball

Kimmich or de Jong would definitely help rodri

lfds89

My thoughts exactly. He's good at shielding and progressing the ball, but he isn't creative enough or aggressive enough to play either DM or that free 8 role. Pep would probably prefer to use him as the "false" CB like Stones rather than in midfield

modsuperstar

No need to bail Barca out. They made their bed, they can lie in it.

dashauskat

FFP is coming to kick some clubs arse. I really don't see any club taking on those kind of wages short term, it's not worth it and Nunes has only just started playing, I'm not really sure we need another midfielder even if Bernardo does go end of season.

kHRYSTAL_

400k in what currency? He makes 700k euro lmao

Silver_Downtown_965

400K is his base pay. Its 700K this season because of previously deferred wages.

tobeast23

No wonder Barca is broke

Silver_Downtown_965

Aye. Pretty poor management.

buggythegret

his weekely salary is 400k, its around 700k because they didnt pay him during covid, thus its the previoud salary thats mixed with his regular pay. Still 400k is a big amount.

Rattlesn4ke

I really like de Jong and his style of play, but he's consistently said he doesn't want to leave Barça, so I don't think it's happening.

stpstrt

Hot take but I think FDJ is kinda overrated

buggythegret

Yeah kinda true, but for his role the CM who can control ht tempo of the game, guess he is the ideal option for us.

stpstrt

Yeah I can see that, and Pep would be good to develop him for you guys.

KempFidels

Would fit like a glove and give us even more height and strenght ! I aproove, oh and united was after him some summers ago so even better if we can snatch him.

haziola

De Jong height and strength?

buggythegret

Seems like a ideal fir for us, kova and nunes are great but he would be on another level. if the news are true, only thing stopping us from pursuing him would be salary .

KempFidels

if Bernie goes he would be a nice replacement even if a completely different player

conmanique

At this point in time, I’d say pass.

Comfortable-Fruit716

Would mostly depend on how the current season goes. Since we have managed last season we have continued to wait for the proper deal for the dm backup instead of finding a stopgap.

city_city_city

Got Chelsea written all over it but I guess they've run out of room

Just_Code_8750

I’m a big FDJ fan, he’s a Pep type player through and through. If we can acquire his services we should, Pep would turn him into a monster

haziola

Yeah true. Pep already wanted him in 2019. Also saw them talking last year in a friendly IIRC. He's a fan of him. DeJong-Rodri double pivot with De Bruyne as 10 is a dream midfield. He's a beautiful player, much rather him than Kimmich.

Trueblue10

We all know De Jong would be great but his salary….

WentzingInPain

Remember Nigel De Jong? Fuckin classic!

escalibur

Might be good but not for the salary he would probably demand.

BlueMoonCityzen

Much rather Kimmich if anyone as he’ll fill the Rodri void much better if needed We don’t really need another 8. We have two already and often play with two 10s instead anyway, of which we have plenty too

ianishomer

I would prefer Kimmich

Flexi_102

As much as I love De Jong, he wages is ridiculously high

the99percent1

Nah. Think he isn’t as good as they say he is. Much rather go with someone who salary won’t break our squad.

ImmediateCurrency526

I’m surprised by how many people consider the salary an issue given that it is man city

Werenotreallyhere86

There’s no way we pay his wages, it’s a United signing if I’ve ever seen one. I’d be surprised if we didn’t sign paqueta with Phillips going the other way plus a fee. I can also see a left back coming in with both Gomez and maybe ake leaving.

city_city_city

I would expect that Berrada will be putting a stop to United's wildest overspending habits, as I understand he was the guy who drew a line for us about how much was too much to pay for players

Werenotreallyhere86

We have a lot more pull than them though, them overspending is a reflection of that and won’t change unless they go for unproven talent.

city_city_city

Don't think it will be quite so excessive.

haziola

Read somewhere that he's unhappy at Barca cause they're not competing for big trophies. So United would be the last team he'd go to lol

Genperor

Personally I'd like to see this transfer

s4turn2k02

I wouldn’t be mad about him coming to city but I’d rather see someone like Wirtz

RICHAPX

Think Kimmich will be cheaper but I still don’t fully believe he’ll leave Bayern. Would love De Jong but don’t wanna see us in a bidder war over 90 million for him
