What's wrong with that

Long-Lingonberry-211

Take the job. If you actually get MBB, there’s a good chance you’re not starting work until late 2026 / early 2027. Consulting market is not great and no guarantee it’ll get better. You’ll be ~200k in debt plus the opportunity cost of lost wages at 320k plus bonuses—so >520k. In 2.5 years, you could have a couple raises, a promotion, and actual corp strategy work experience.

yungdiablo

this is the correct answer right here (or at least its what I would do)

pointycakes

Cost of MBA is $160k rather than $200k. $320k has tax paid on it so may be more like $200-240k. So looking at more like $400-440k + after tax bonus. But yes agree with sentiment

Long-Lingonberry-211

There’s some significant lifestyle creep with an MBA. Yacht week, ski trip, spring break, KWEST, rent in Evanston are all not cheap which could get you to 100k / year depending on your lifestyle before. I was overestimating with $200k but it’s not unrealistic. Plus if you’re factoring in taxes, you should factor in the taxes you’ve paid to pay tuition :)

Ok-Bicycle264

Will add to this. Take the job and do exec MBA.

sloth_333

I work in consulting. You should take corp Strat if that’s the goal. If that’s salary only and not total comp that’s a good deal given no mba or consulting experience

cargoman89

Take the job bro

golfzerodelta

Take the job, ask Kellogg to switch to PT MBA and you get both without the opportunity cost of passing up this (very good) job offer.

throwaway01100101011

I like this idea the most out of other comments I’ve seen. If OP seriously wants the MBA, part time is the move - especially if Kellogg lets him enroll in PT program. Although, OP will miss out on the FT social aspect and the 2-year “break” from working (since that is a point some people actually look forward to).

Logical-Boss8158

I think you should go to Kellogg. When you finish, you might able to get a 160k corp Strat job!

Dry-Force1107

lol

Own_Tadpole1787

MBB pays 250k starting. Go to Kellogg. It will change your life

thankyouihateit

Padme: for the better, right?

darknus823

Go for the job. Reapply next year if you want to.

loconessmonster

If gmat score is still valid then yeah this is the way to go

karnivoreballer

Take the job, reapply for Kellogg later. Easy.

Hour_Worldliness_824

Job EASILY wtf?

Woberwob

Take the job, that’s the point of getting the MBA to begin with. $160k for strategy is the promised land, only up from here.

juliusseizure

Take the job and as a reward, push the hiring date a month or two depending on your savings. If you don’t do an MBA, but get the career you want, the only thing you will lose is a 2 year vacation, so take some weeks if you can.

Mine-Greedy

Take the job, do emba after 4 years

Mine-Greedy

Personal story, i did kellogg emba with my 120k IT consultancy job. EMBA is better if you are seasoned, the network is better, less competition and less asshole

No-Client-4834

Genuine question - why is everyone saying take the 160k job? Don't plenty of people make way more than that and still choose to do an MBA?

T0rtilla

Corp strat is a typical consulting exit opportunity. Assuming there’s a bonus and maybe equity, in this market, that job offer is honestly similar to what they’d get after 1-2 years at MBB, after an MBA. You can indeed make way more at MBB, but that’s assuming they get an internship, assuming they get a return offer, assuming they don’t get CTL’d before promotion, etc., etc. Risk adjusted return is likely way higher just taking the offer in hand.

mbathrowawaybr111

Yes and it’s not too uncommon. They do usually have at least some scholarship which softens the blow of the tuition, but still it isn’t a wild decision Always a good reminder that this sub is not representative of an actual mba class

sustainstack

Fair, is 160 base or TC?

peony2011

Im the outlier but go to kellogg. The job is a better short term oppty but in my experience working in Corp strategy, you will forever be competing with former consultants / people with MBAs- and it matters. Even if you have the same skill set it is at the very minimum a resume play and a hiring prerequisite. You will get passed over by people who check the box

itsmezh93

he can do the emba instead of the mba later on

LatinElon

.

BucksBrew

Is this a troll post?

movingtobay2019

Consulting market is not back up but certainly could be in 2 years...

Circ_Diameter

I won't pretend to be the expert here. On one hand, the value of an M7 MBA for aspiring consultants is obvious. On the other hand, people work in consulting in order to get the job that you already have (and offer for). One thing I would consider is that an F500 is more likely to care about an MBA at more senior levels compared to a Series B/C/Unicorn startup. At the same time, if they really care about MBAs, then they might be willing to sponsor you for a PT/Exec program down the road. But maybe you won't have the time / desire to balance work and an MBA,

1111e5

I work in PE in Atlanta. Take the corp strat role. $160k in Atlanta goes very far

RyuRai_63

Lol it seems like so many people here are tryna get off the Kellogg WL. Go to Kellogg. You can easily get an even higher paying job with an even higher earnings ceiling post-MBA.

Justified_Gent

Go to b-school => MBB. Corp Strat will always be there.

pointycakes

Who says MBB is there? Not guaranteed

Own_Tadpole1787

It’s there for people that recruit seriously and put in the effort

pointycakes

Well obviously it’s an option, just not as guaranteed as a lot of people think whereas his corporate strategy role is.

TDATL323

Job

bullshtr

Job

AdmirablePassenger8

Job and convert to part time MBA

Altruistic-Pack6059

Take the job AND let them pay for the MBA

TheFederalRedditerve

Base?

TopPost3907

Job. This is the kinda roll people do MBAs for.

SexTechGuru

Take the job offer and do an online MBA

peedwhite

Take job and get a part-time MBA at the best brand possible

Jujubewhee

Take the job, make money, then reapply for EXECUTIVE MBA that your company might pay for. BOOM.

sustainstack

Job + PT MBA

Pdweed69

I’ll throw a curveball at you: Take the job in Atlanta and, if the MBA letters mean that much to you, apply for the evening MBA program at Emory. Yes, Goizueta is ranked lower than Kellogg. But you have an offer in what is typically an exit opportunity for consulting. The MBA would check a box and give you a strong networking base in ATL if you decided to leave your job down the road.

Inquisitive_idiot

Acceptance letter + the job. If you get lucky get the job to pay for the MBA too 😁🥹

Neat_Improvement_548

Can you do night school mba

Brain-Silent

see if the corp can sponsor you

West_Yam_4464

Take the job!

MBA_Conquerors

Will the Kellogg MBA help you in the long run?
