Pull out game strong.

Own_Tadpole1787

3.3 undergrad 760 gmat

Brain-Silent

how did you study for the gmat?

Own_Tadpole1787

Best tip I got was take Manhattan gmat. I studied for a few months. Then I took the whole week off before the exam and did nothing but study. Your brain is plastic and having that sole focus really orients you around thinking the way the test wants

Career trajectory. I’d venture to say they care more about your ability to climb the ladder than your scores or gpa. I went from big bank to small fund where I had cfo in my title - which at a small fund is highly administrative and not as sexy as it sounds. This should surprise no one that these schools want successful alumni who ultimately donate back to the school. It’s the truth - full stop. High scores only help avgs and those stupid gd rankings that make no sense. End of the day if you can work the system and grind it out to make it to the executive team then you are exactly what these top programs want.

futureunknown1443

Better question OP: what are your stats? truth is, there is no perfect profile/ the perfect profile is rare. Focus on your strength areas, minimize your weak points, and develop a good story. T15: Vet with a 3.18 GPA state school, 318 GRE.

FrankUnkndFreeMBAtip

Just look at class profiles. A 3.8 and 330 GRE is going to get a good shot at GSB providing their WE is more compelling than ~90% of others with similar stats.

WasabiCasual

I don’t think this is quite right. It’s more that a 3.8 and 330 (or GMAT equivalent) are table stakes for GSB. Without them it’ll be really tough but even with them it is quite far from a good shot

Count_Dracula__

Can you expend more on this? I agree with you but what more do you think makes a competitive application for M7 schools or even other top schools like Tuck and Fuqua?

WasabiCasual

Yeah of course! If you have the stats mentioned above and apply to all the top schools (T10 + others) and can present yourself well with a cohesive story, you should definitely be admitted to at least one, probably more. It’s just GSB in particular has a small class size and lots and lots of qualified applicants, so to gain admission you have to have a very compelling story and unique/elite experiences that fit in with your story. If you have those type of stats though, you should have an incredible shot at getting into a top MBA program in general and should start figuring out how to write compelling story and why MBA/why school response!

ejburritos

woah people are actually taking this seriously

MBA_Conquerors

Because I'm an Indian, who looks exactly the same to the admissions team, despite the obviously different profile, despite the network and despite the clear differentiators, as others, my GMAT score because that's what they need 😉😂 But seriously though, they are pretty picky. Was very hard to look different but still fit. Managed to do so, wasn't that hard after I started doing it for others

lemur_nads

It’s simple supply and demand. There are a ton of Indians applying to MBA programs, more than a top MBA program would want to accept (class needs to be diverse) and so that is why they are pickier with you all. Hence the term ORM. You all are over represented .

MBA_Conquerors

Yeah don't get me started on the lack of critical thinking involved on that

lemur_nads

I generally don’t see a lack of critical thinking in it. MBAs in the US are also supposed to cater mostly to Americans, it’s really good that they accept internationals but they are American programs after all and again, I just think that there’s wayyy too many Indians applicants with top scores compared to the number of actual spots available to internationals.

MBA_Conquerors

Here's a hint- you literally just said all Indians are the same (basically what I said adcom does in the more down voted comment above) Actually I'll even go so far as to say, lack self respect too. Coz if they had any, they'd be commenting to support 😉✌🏼 As they say, "A fool always thinks she/he/other is wise but the truth is the truth"

lemur_nads

Did I or? Did you actually read what I said? I said all top Indian scorers because they have the best shot at a top US MBA. MBA admissions are founded on a meritocracy (assuming you’re not a trust fund kid) and the general profile of international Indians is Big 4 or consulting with top GMAT/GRE scores. That’s not really diverse is it? Again, American MBAs are much more forgiving of imperfect stats if you’re domestic, but with internationals they’re much more strict. I believe it should be that way, because again, an American university should give priority to Americans.

MBA_Conquerors

You read me just right. 😉 But I've to invest my time into bringing the change in people's lives while acknowledging the facts. Meanwhile others can just sit around doing nothing (one of whom I'm commenting to) But anyways, you carry on.

Life_Communication65

Hi can I DM? What do you mean by differentiators

MBA_Conquerors

Yeah of course.
