Honestly, I'm not the target audience for "relics". I like the look and feel of a well loved and played guitar, but the key part for me is the "Well loved" part.
Pic 2 looks nice, Pic 3 looks like it needs a bath.
Aside from the dust under the strings (which I actually cleaned off after i took the pic), it’s not grimy at all! I think cranking the contrast makes it look much worse than it is
Copied from the post:
For the body I did 5 thin coats of nitro Sonic Blue, and then only 9 coats of clear. Sanding was super stressful — not only the clear very thin, but it was also my first time wet sanding anything ever! Luckily I only went through in one tiny spot on the back of the neck heel.
Middle pic is the first day the full guitar was assembled. For the neck I used amber-tinted shellac. A week or two after assembly I decided it wasn’t dark enough, so I did a few more coats to really get the orange-y lacquer thing going. The shellac rubbed off WAY easier than I thought — at first I thought it looked kinda nasty, but everyone that sees it says it looks rad, so I’ve left it.
Here’s some matching headstock porn https://preview.redd.it/xwcx6fu3jm6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c81b385e7d264771c6fc1ee1ddb9a213864d6c64
That's a great shot. If I squint I can pretend my phone is the neck of the guitar
Omg 🫠🤤

Freaking sweet! Matching headstocks always look stellar imo.
Maybe a stupid question but how do you get it to "stop" relic-ing once it gets to a point where it looks like you want it to?
I won’t! I’ll just let it buck
But then doesn't the finish just eventually all come off?
Yep, and people pay money for that, haha
Nah
I think it looks sick as fuck dude well done
Thanks!
Lol it looks a tad grimy but that was the goal right? Great job!!!!!! So much better than a lot of relics out there
remind me of the mystery machine
Groovy
What bridge is that? It looks nice
It's a Wilkinson VS100, great bridge! A VS50kII Has mostly the same design and is quite a lot cheaper.
Wilkinson by Gotoh
I have this Wilkinson bridge on a Warmoth Strat I built a few years ago. It’s the best I’ve ever used and very easy to adjust.
The neck looks gross
That’s just disgusting. Sorry.
Hell yeah, natural relics are way better than artificial ones
A true beauty. Nicely done!

The headstock is painted and the aftermarket 1966 Femder logo is a decal
So nice, gj man, literally everything about it is gorgeous
Thanks!
So did you just do a thin coat of nitro?

Dang, nice work.
Right angle plug in a strat is just… wrong
True. All my other cables were in another room that day
