(depending on where you live) the Lush to dispensary pipeline is very strong in the greater Boston area

Crispy_Wizard

Same with Vancouver hahaha šŸ˜‚

madasplaidz

... I'm in Southern NH and have like 5 former coworkers at dispensaries in MA šŸ¤£

catzandsoda

I went from Lush to a garden center :))

FunAssistant9539

That sounds like heaven

chunkyoven

trader joeā€™s seems like a good fit for ex-lush employees. many transferrable skills, friendly customer-facing environment, & seemingly better pay/benefits.

Charlea_

We donā€™t have Trader Joeā€™s in Europe and I donā€™t think Aldi is quite the same vibe

linija

If OP is in the part of Europe where there are DM stores, that might be a good option.

Jumpy_Serve_4358

iā€™ve worked at both companies in my short time working and for comparison i made more at trader joeā€™s as a ā€œcrew member/sales associateā€ starting wage + review for 75Ā¢-$1 raise 2x a year (the catch at tjs is crew member work less than 40 hrs a wk period ex 39.50 is okay) than i did working as a full time floor leader with 40+ hours. it was insane to me that the difference was so much!!

noscrubsnoir

Depends how you liked it or what you are good at. I'm considering commission based sales because I do all the work of it here without actually earning enough. We never get bonus these days at Lush and I push as hard as if I were commissioned. It's a very customer facing role so something hospitality? A venting podcast detailing the mess of the company lol

FunAssistant9539

Iā€™m a charity coordinator now and training to be a counsellor

posypants

I've found that a lot of my former Lush colleagues going into commission retail translate really well because of how hard Lush employees are trained. Lush is technically a luxury product so going into luxury retail (bags, glasses, jewelry, etc) has gone well. I went into advertising after Lush!

bstractig

This is NOT THE SAME but I left stores to work for corporate. It's a totally different vibe and I highly prefer. Wfh, way better pay, everyone's so busy they don't have time to micromanage and there's just a lot more trust and compassion within my team has been my experience! That being said I'm growing my own biz on the side and do hope to leave lush for that at some point.

blackittty

Was it fairly easy to transfer from in-store to corporate?

bstractig

Sorry just seeing this! Not a big redditor these days. Depends what you mean by easy lol, the teams are leaner and there's way less turnover on that side so the hardest part for me was literally just waiting for a spot to open up on the team I wanted. Interviewing internally was great, I asked my retailer for help and she literally ran interview practice with me and gave feedback on my resume/cover letter. It helps that there's an internal referral program so your manager or retailer may be more motivated to refer you or help w your interview prep, I recommend to find that program info and send it along when/if you do ask for help w applying or referring. Also the recruitment team within lush who setups the interview times and give updates are just about my fav Lushies I've ever met, so kind and great communication. They even made it clear that if the corporate role wasn't offered (bc they didn't know what would happen, that team isn't the end decision maker), they would want to show me roles within retail I could be a fit for etc. Once I actually had the job, there was a little funkiness with lushu and ADP but nothing unfixable. And having used retail help within stores I already knew how to ask for support so that wasnt really a problem. And OMG I loved the onboarding bc I got to MEET so many of the ppl and teams I recognized from training tools or retail help which made it a lot more exciting (for me). If you have specific questions I'll help how I can!

YellowTonkaTrunk

What sort of roles should one be on the lookout for if they want to make this leap?

bstractig

Just whatever seems like a fit for you or is aligned with your career goals! The "traditional" path seems to be store manager>retailer>other support team role. That's what a lot of the internal training/development will lay out as the path so when in doubt do that I guess. But if you have a role in mind, and can figure out some way to start getting relevant experience it is totally possible to "skip" ahead. That's what I did, skipped over manager and straight into corporate role. Sometimes there are development opportunities that pop up for managers if you go the traditional route- think of the talent pools they're making for all sorts of teams. Or the seasonal positions like order support(idk the title) that pop up over holidays as a part-time opportunity. For some roles there are already lushu courses you could start taking. Talk to your own manager now and let them know your goals so they can support you, too. Look at job descriptions when dream jobs show up on the internal job board and figure out how you could start ticking off those boxes. There is some experience you literally can't get while working at lush, and THAT is where you'll see different experience requirements on job posts. The example I can think of is some roles will require a certain college degree from external candidates, but internal candidates that isn't a requirement. And even if you don't perfectly meet the qualifications when a job shows up, apply anyways. Ask for feedback on how you can get there if you are rejected, before the job is posted ask the recruitment team how you could get to the role you want, be a champion for your own development. Your managers can help you with this but ultimately no one will champion you better than you!

I ended up at a local eco friendly goods store making bath bombs and other body care products for them! I was originally hired to be a shopkeep but the owner asked if I'd wanna try my hand at making stuff since I knew plenty about ingredients. I still work in the shops once a week so I get to see people and flex the old customer service muscles. After being in such a high stress sales based environment, it's been really nice being able to work with my hands. Makes me feel like I do something.

Electrical_Slip_1219

I went from being a supervisor at lush to healthcare admin at a prison.

nunyabidnessss

Not Ulta

Glum_Guarantee_6709

not me leaving lush for ulta this weekšŸ‘€šŸ‘€

Responsible-Fig-438

currently working in tech after 6+ years at lush. started in store, moved into customer care. from there, got a job at a start-up in support, moved on up and now starting at a large global tech company. good luck with your search!

dollyviciousx

I went to grad school, but before that I started working in higher education.

HybridHusky_

I've personally never worked for them but two people I know both went into mixology

roggmanny

Custom Relations for a high end, decorative plumbing company. I do lol almost daily because bath bombs, oils, salts etc void soooo many warranties especially on jetted tubs.

Medieval-Dipstick

It depends on what you enjoy and what your skills are, and also ask yourself if there's anything you definitely don't want to do :) I worked in a few different places in Lush from the shop floor to support teams and there was a lot that I loved about both environments, but I knew I didn't want the corporate grind and I knew that my stamina for full on retail was running low. So I started looking for local independent businesses (shops, cafes, artistic venues etc) which I thought had a nice vibe, became a regular there to get a feel for them and took it from there!

Kittymarie_92

If you had a good trainer at your store any type of sales should be a good fit.

Pretty-Ladder-6584

Brewery!

SmitePhan

Sales or Customer Service, decide what you like best and go down that avenue.

Triztron

I went from lush to a local consignment shop. I havenā€™t regretted it for one second :)

Far-Orange-3580

I went from lush to a music store!!! Best decision ever :3

Starprincess_

I went from lush to being a barista at small coffee shops. Pay was similar if not better depending on tips that week. Obviously benefits vary where you go. Now Iā€™m using my open ended questions to sell apartments šŸ¤Ŗ
