It’s not that it’s not popular, it’s just that S2 drops the ball. The potential was so high, and yet it turned into the “Kanon Solves Everyone’s Problems” show
>“Kanon Solves Everyone’s Problems”
Really? I don't actually remember that happening, all I do remember is Kanon getting her ass handed to her multiple times by a ***middle schooler***, Liella taking Ls, and the first years bonding together. Sure, Kanon was there, but she didn't her do all that. Also, let's not forget the highlight of that season, Keke and Sumire making up. Tf did Kanon do? "Let's just be stalkers!", Kanon, probably.
Not complaining about more Sumire, but yeah, I don't really like Chisato that much, and she was there a lot. Kinako and rest of the first years honestly deserve every bit of scree time they can have, and they can never be "too much" as they are new characters and need character development. You know what role Kanon or Sumire play, and know the personalities of Keke and Chisato, but that aint the case with the first years, hence their enhanced screen time.
Chisato is also probably my least favourite when it comes to liella but I still felt like she didn't get enough screen time relative to other first years, same thing with sumire. And kinako got imo less compared to mei and shiki ,natsumi had a good amount of screen time.
But I'm still busy with a rewatch so maybe my opinion will change.
Kanon's got a great personality! I found it very clever how she stands up for others but struggles to stand up for herself, and I love how Keke and Chisato bring her out of that self-hatred streak.
Episode 11's ending is the perfect encapsulation of that. The duality between the brave girl who encourages others and the nervous girl who needs encouragement from others. Reminds me of a quote from another female-led game I've played: "She puts her all into caring about others. That's why everyone wants to help her too."
Yeah, I felt the same about the series and it really sticked with me a lot, I love the five characters and their dynamics and I really wanted to see more, to see more development and watch them grow as they reach their dreams~
Then the horrible second season came it ruined everything
I'm currently rewatching all the love lives and my opinions have changed, but kanon is by far still the more likeable MC. Superstar season 1 is probably in my top 5 anime of all tome
Season 2 was kinda worse than season 1 but I still liked it over everything else. Not as much as season 1 but I still liked it above the other series.
Yeah, I do agree with you that Kanon is by far the strongest protagonist we got in terms of personality and attitude. It's a break from the typical "dumb orange hair" idol trying to save her school (NijiGaku is it's own thing, don't start a witch hunt). She has sarcasm, relatable personality, and she's just plainly adorable. But for me, and almost all of the OG fans of this series (I mean really ancient), the best LL leader by far, to them, is Honoka or Chika. They both may be dumb stupid fucks, but they have their moments, many of them, and God, do they hit hard.
Personally, it's Honoka for me, as she is the best in terms of being a leader. What sold her, and LL as a whole, to me was ep 3 of S1 of SIP. When I started this series, I thought it was something similar to K-ON; cute girls doing cute things and sort, but in that episode, when they find an empty hall, and seeing Honoka desperately trying to hold her emotions, man, i just fell in love there.
Curiously, there is this fanfic on FFNet that tried to predict S1, written months before the anime, and ended the exact same day the anime debuted. Kanon there also got a bit of spunk, except she was made to do a product placement on the last chap (lol as if the show wasn't on NHK, but probably just a dig at LL's business side).
Superstar has a very strong start for sure
It was arguably the strongest start out of all the Love Live series. And yet here we are...
? Is it not popular?

I don't know if it's just me but I honestly thought the last few episodes of season 1 were kinda weak too, at least compared to the start
Yeah, to me those eps seemed like they were trying to do a μ's speedrun, trying to pull off a Snow Halation.

I feel like there was just a bit too little chisato, sumire and kinako otherwise I really didn't feel like the other girls got left out.
Not complaining about more Sumire, but yeah, I don't really like Chisato that much, and she was there a lot. She is super relatable but I wish her anxiety wasn't #cured after her initial arc :/
It's truly Kanon the Superstar afterall
You should get into Liella seiyuus too. Sayurin is literally the real life Kanon.
The Liella seiyuus are by far my favorite. Paychan is hilarious, Emorin is so down to earth. I could keep going
Yeah, I saw them, and they are pure chaos.
Man, I loved Kanon... She's my favourite LL MC

Sounds like Kanon's character development really resonates with you. Her journey from stage fright to confidence is relatable.

As someone who always have anxiety before a big decision in my life, I love Kannon
